Key Features
This guide relates to the installation and basic
functionality of the WEIR Synertrex® Smart
Sensor, also known as the “S3”.
The S3 is an integrated sensing device
that enables low cost sensing of vibration,
temperature and shaft speed.
It is aimed at replacing wired sensors
in applications where reduced cost and
complexity are key.

Physical Details
Physical Installation
Installation & Setup Process
1. Housing (polycarbonate shell and fully
potted)
2. Optional 30mm diameter mounting base
*see note
3. Alignment feature showing sensing axes
4. Through bolt (¼”-28 UNF)
5. Serial number
6. Serial number as QR code
* Note that adding a mounting base will add
significant latency and offset to temperature sensing
The device is mounted using the ¼” UNF cap head bolt. The surface being mounted
onto must be flat or spot faced (suggested 40mm dia) with a suitably tapped hole
(¼” UNF x ⅜” deep)
The choices available for mounting are:
• Utilise existing tri-axial accelerometer mounting location (¼” UNF type)
• Magnetic base on ferromagnetic material
• Spot face, drill and tap surface
• Utilise metal mounting puck and glue onto surface
Devices are to be mounted on Equipment in specific locations (defined by
equipment manufacturer) followed by configuration using the WEIR Sensor Connect
Mobile app.

Notifications Concerning Certification
The remainder of the setup process is implemented using the WEIR developed
‘Sensor Connect’ mobile application for iOS.
This application allows the user to assign equipment information, change operating
mode, set locations etc.
Modification or operation of the S3 device in any manner not expressly approved
by the party responsible for compliance could void the user’s authority to operate
the equipment.

Important Note - Device should not be installed directly onto surfaces that will
exceed 85°C OR in ambient conditions exceeding 70°C.This is important to ensure
safe battery temperatures are not exceeded. Monitoring surfaces exceeding 85°C
requires a mounting spacer that ensures the device surface does not exceed 85°C.
