INSTRUCTION MANUAL
TPP
Rev. August 15

Description
The Well Tempered Lab TPP is a MM Phono Preamplifier with separate power supply using 12AX7 tubes
providing a balanced gain with low negative feedback.
Important Safety Instructions
1. Read the instructions
The safety and operating instructions should be read before using the TPP.
2. Retain Instructions
The safety and operating instructions should be retained for future reference.
3. Follow Instructions
All operating and use instructions should be followed.
4. Location
The TPP should be installed in a stable location with ample ventilation. We recommend that this phono stage
be placed at a suitable distance away from all amplifiers.
5. Water and Moisture
As with any electrical equipment, this phono stage should not be used near water and moisture.
Connection and Operation
1. Power OFF all equipment before attempting install the TPP in your system this includes all power amplifiers,
integrated amplifier, pre amplifiers and all ancillary equipment.
2. The TPP consists of a two piece chassis. One piece is the regulated Power Supply that connects directly
into the mains supply. Always ensure that the mains plug is suitable for use in your country. The regulated
IEC connector socket on the rear of the power supply accepts dual voltage. Ensure that the fuse rating is
correct for your country. The power supply is connected to the TPP with the supplied umbilical cord and 3 pin
screw collar connectors ensure they are firmly tightened.
3. Always use high quality low capacitance interconnect cables with correct RCA male connectors. The left
and right channel outputs of the TPP should always be connected to the standard line level inputs of the
preamplifier or similar. Never connect the TPP to a MM input.
4. The outputs of the tonearm cable with RCA male connector should be connected to the right channel and
the left channel inputs of the TPP.
5. Normally the TPP GND terminal is to connect an earth wire from the turntable or the tonearm cable.
6. The TPP is installed in a shielded case, but sometimes it can pick up hum in a strong magnetic field. In this
case change the position of the TPP. Always keep a convenient distance from the amplifier.
7. If hum persists it can usually be eliminated by connecting a ground wire from the preamplifier/integrated
amplifier GND terminal to the TPP GND terminal or consult your dealer.
