Installation:
1. Find a suitable mounting location. A dry, cool compartment
is a good choice.
2. Be sure that the amplifier fits properly, then position the
amplifier on the mounting location and using an awl or other
suitable tool, scribe the mounting surface where the
mounting holes are to be drilled.
Caution: As mounting this product will require drilling, it
is absolutely necessary to make sure that no
other vehicle components could be damaged
by the drilling process. If any vehicle
component could suffer potential harm, select
a different location.
3. Carefully drill the mounting holes using a #30 drill bit.
4. Using the supplied sheet metal screws, secure the remote
amplifier to the mounting location.
Input Connector - P1:
Connecting to Power
WARNING! All customer supplied wires that connect to
the positive terminal of the battery, must be sized to supply
at least 125% of the maximum operating current and fused
“at the battery” to carry that load (see wire chart below).
1. Connect the RED wire to an SPST switch. Extend a wire (of
appropriate gage as shown below) from this switch to the
vehicle battery. Install a 15 Amp fuse (customer supplied) at
the end of this wire. Extend a wire from the fuse block
towards the positive terminal of the battery. Do not connect
this unit to the battery yet.
2. Connect the BLACK wire to the vehicle’s chassis ground.
Connecting to Speaker / 100 watt:
1. Route the ORANGE and BROWN wires to your speaker.
2. Connect the ORANGE wire to the WHITE (+) speaker wire.
3. Connect the BROWN wire to the BLACK (-) speaker wire.
Input Control Connector - P2
Siren configuration and function are determined by user
supplied switches connected to the amplifier. A brief
explanation of each of the wires of the Input control connector
will serve as a guide to help decide the best configuration for
your needs:
WHITE / GREEN Press Manual and a wail tone will ramp up
(Manual) to a peak, then ramp down when released.
WHITE / ORANGE Press Brake and the tone will quickly
(Brake) ramp down and stop.
WHITE / YELLOW Pressing Air Horn will generate an Air Horn
(Air Horn) sound. This function overrides the manual
wail tone.
Installation will be complete after the fuse block wire is
connected to the POSITIVE (+) terminal of the battery. After this
connection has been made, visually inspect the fuses at the
back of the amplifier and at the battery. If either of these fuses is
blown, carefully inspect all of the circuit wires and make sure
they are wired correctly. Replace the blown fuses with ones of
an identical amp rating. If these fuses blow after installation or
activation, contact Whelen Engineering Technical Support.
Dip Switch Settings
Dip Switch 5 effects the tonal qualities of the simulated
mechanical siren tone. In the up (OFF) position, the tone
generated has a more mechanical sound. In the down (ON)
position, the tone is less mechanical.
