Wico Command Control User manual

COMMAND
CONTROL
You have just purchased
the finest game controller
money can buy.
We know you take your game-playing seriously.
So does WICO.

COMMAND CONTROL
Bat Handle Joystick
CONNEC ION: o use your WICO COMMAND CON ROL Bat Handle
Joystick, simply plug the joystick cord into the appropriate control
port, exactly as you would the system's original controller.
he Bat Handle Joystick is recommended for use with Atari* 2600,™
400™ 800™ Sears Arcade, and Commodore 64™ (and with WICO adaptor,
exas Instruments 99/4A).
OPERA ION: For precise 8-way directional control, always position your
Bat Handle Joystick with the base fire button in the upper left hand
corner. he Bat Handle’s two fire buttons may not be used simultaneously.
he 2-position slide switch on the base (see diagram) selects which
button is in use at any one time.
When playing maze games requiring 4-way control, your response
time may be slowed if you move the joystick from one position to
another without returning the handle to the center position first. 4-way
control software recognizes only the up, down, left and right directions,
and cannot respond to diagonal signals. By centering the joystick
before changing direction this problem is eliminated and game play
is improved.

COMMAND CONTROL
Joystick/Keypad for
ColecoVision™ and ADAl\ZTM
CONSOLE
CONNEC ION: o use the WICO Command Control Joystick/Keypad for
your ColecoVision or ADAM system, simply plug the WICO unit cord
into the control port panel on your video system in the same manner
as the original control unit (see diagram).
OPERA ION: Hold your Command Control Joystick/Keypad with the
joystick end closest to you. he arcade-sized joystick delivers quick,
precise 8-way directional control by moving the handle forward, back
ward, left, right, and to each 45 degree angle in between. he keypad
is sized and laid out like your original controller, and is compatible
with all of your ColecoVision keypad overlays simply by cutting off the
side tab of the keypad overlay (see diagram). he keypad also may be
used for all the numeric functions of the original ADAM controller.
FIRE BU ONS: he side-mounted fire buttons are functionally identical
to those on your system’s original controller, and should be used in
the same manner. In addition, your Command Control Joystick/Keypad
provides a stick-mounted arcade-type fire button for use as an alter
native to the side-mounted fire buttons (see diagram). he fire button
on the stick will control primary firing as determined by software or
will simply act as a replacement fire button for the button furthest from
you on either side of the WICO unit.

COMMAND CONTROL
uper Three-Way Joystick
SUPER HREE-WAY
JOYS ICK
CONNEC ION: o use your WICO COMMAND CON ROL Joystick, simply
plug the joystick cord into the appropriate control port, exactly as you
would the system’s original controller.
he Super hree-Way Joystick is recommended for use with Atari 2600,
400, 800, Sears Arcade, and Commodore 64 (and with WICO adaptor,
exas Instruments 99/4A).

OPERA ION: YourWICO joystick offers three unique operational features:
IN ERCHANGEABLE GRIPS - All three grips are designed to slide
easily on and off the steel joystick shaft. When mounting the Bat
Handle or Grip Handle, be sure to pull the grip as far down the
shaft as possible - the rubber 0-ring, located about 2/3 of the way
down the shaft, provides all the tension necessary to lock the
handle in place. When mounting the Red Ball, just pull it down
on the shaft until it clicks, locking into place. he fire button
should clear the top of each handle by approximately 3/16!’
4-WAY/8-WAY GA ELOCK CON ROL - his feature improves play
on games requiring 4-way control only — maze games, for example.
When playing this type of game, rotate the dial at the base of the
grip until the “4” is directly over the arrow marked “gatelock”
(see diagram). For games requiring control in all 8 directions,
rotate the dial to the "8” position.
FIRE 1/FIRE 2 SELEC OR SWI CH - In the “ Fire 2” position, both
joystick fire buttons are operational. In the “ Fire 1” position, only
the grip handle mounted fire button is operational.

COMMAND CONTROL
Analog Joystick for Atari® 5200™
CONNEC ION: Your WICO Analog Joystick is designed for use in con
junction with either the WICO Keypad for the Atari 5200 (see instruc
tions, opposite page), or with the keypad portion of the system’s original
controller. When used with the original keypad, the joystick connects
easily to both the system and keypad via the included Y-cord adaptor.
Just plug the WICO unit and original Atari controller into the two male
ends of the Y-cord. hen plug the female end into the game control
port, and you’re ready to play.
OPERA ION: Use the WICO unit exactly as you would the joystick portion
of the original Atari controller. he WICO joystick works similarly, but
provides two advantages for game play:
SPRING RE URN/FREE POSI IONING MODES - Your joystick
handle can be set to center automatically (Spring Return) or to
“float free” (Free Positioning) by using the mode selection switches
on the bottom of the unit (see diagram). Only select modes when
the joystick is in the center position — unit damage may otherwise
result.
RIM CON ROLS - All WICO Analog Joysticks provide linear rim
Controls for each axis (see X, Y as molded on control base).
Linear rim Controls allow user to adjust cursor position for most
efficient use of Spring Return Mode. By sliding either or both trim
controls, joystick center position and corresponding screen posi
tion can be easily adjusted.
FIRE BU ONS: he two base-mounted fire buttons will accommodate
all firing functions of existing Atari 5200 software. Other game control
functions, i.e. game start, reset and pause, are controlled by the keypad.

COMMAND CONTROL
Numeric Keypad for Atari® 5200™
CONTROLLER
RESET
CONNEC ION: Your WICO COMMAND CON ROL Numeric Keypad is
designed for use ONLY with the WICO Analog Joystick for the Atari
5200, and connects easily to both the joystick and your Atari system.
Simply plug the joystick cord into the outlet on the keypad. hen plug
the keypad cord into the Atari 5200 control port, and you’re ready to
play. he joystick Y-cord included with the analog joystick is not needed
when using the keypad unit.
OPERA ION: he keypad’s 12-key button cluster and 3 auxiliary momen
tary keys are functionally identical to the original Atari keypad, and
should be used in exactly the same manner. he 12-key button cluster
will accommodate all Atari 5200 game overlays.

SOCKET
CONNEC ION: o connect, simply remove the computer cover and
insert the 16-pin adaptor plug into the game I/O connector, with Pin
#1 positioned closest to the computer keyboard.
WICO Command Control Joysticks are switch-type and give only direc
tional readings. hey can be used with any software program that utilizes
joysticks for direction only (not for screen position). When properly
connected, the joysticks give output readings of 0, 128, and 255 for
both vertical and horizontal directions.
NO E: he adaptor is factory-adjusted to a center point of 128. However,
some adaptors may need readjustment due to computer hardware varia
tions. o adjust: unscrew the 2 cover screws and remove the adaptor’s
top cover, then locate the 4 trim pots used to adjust the center value
of each joystick. (See diagram.) Below is a basic program displaying
the joystick values. With the joystick handle in the center position,
adjust each pot until the figure “ 128” is displayed. After centering,
movement of the joystick handle should display values of “0” or “255”
and pressing the fire button should display the “Fire Button” message.

OPERA ION: For simple operation of the WICO joysticks, follow the direc
tions provided in the chart below:

CONNEC ION: o use your WICO COMMAND CON ROL rackball,
just plug the cord into the appropriate control port, exactly as you would
the system’s original controller.
he rackball is recommended for use with Atari 2600, 400, 800, Sears
Arcade and Commodore 64.
OPERA ION: Operating your trackball is as easy as rolling the phenolic
ball - forward, backward, left, right - for 360° movement anywhere
on the screen. he ball controls speed as well — depending on the
software, the faster you move it, the faster the onscreen movement.
o assure directional accuracy, always keep the unit positioned with
the fire button in the upper left hand corner.
