Thisowner'smanualcoversinstallationoftheSW60XG soundupgradecardaswellastheinstallationof
theapplicationsandSW60XG driver.

CONNECTIONS

After makingconnections,switchonthepowerofeachdeviceinthefollowingorder:Externalinputdevicesfirst,
thenthecomputer,thenexternalaudiodevices.(NOTE:MAKE SURETOTURNDOWNTHEVOLUMELEVELS
OFTHEEXTERNALAUDIODEVICESBEFORETURNINGTHEMON.)When turningoff thepowerofeach
device,simplyreversetheprocess.
CAUTION:Improperconnectionofmicrophoneandotherexternaldevicesmaycauseearinjuryor damageto

2.SW60XGINSTALLATION
TheSW60XGfitsintoanISAbusexpansionslotinyourcomputer.
1.TurnoffthecomputerandunplugitsAC powercord.
CAUTION:DonotattempttoinstallyourSW60XGwhilethecomputerispluggedin.Thiscancauseirreparabledam-
agetothesoundcardoryourcomputerhardware,andmayposea seriousshockhazard!
2.Removethetopcoverofthecomputer.
NOTE:Thepropermethodfor removingthetopcovervariesdependingonthetype ofcomputeryou use,so pleasesee
yourcomputer'sowner'smanualfortheproperprocedure.Wearglovestoavoidcutsbyanysharpedgesonthecover.

3.Toremovetheexpansionslotcover,simplyunscrewandremoveit.Retainthescrew usedto
holdtheexpansionslotcoverinplace.
NOTE:Besuretokeeptheexpansionslotcoverinasafeplaceforfutureuse.
4.CarefullyremovetheSW60XG from theanti-staticbag.
CAUTION:BeforetouchingtheSW60XGcard,firsttouchametalsurfacetodischargeanystaticelectricityinyourbody;
suchstaticelectricitycancauseseriousdamagetoyourSW60XG.AlsodonottouchtheinsidesurfacesofyourSW60XG
inordertopreventpossibleinterferencewithordamagetothecircuitry.
5.HoldtheSW60XGwithtwo handsasshown,andslowlyandsteadilyinsertitintotheexpan-
sionslot,makingsureto properlylineuptheconnectorsinthecardwiththoseintheslot.To
preventbreakingordamagingtheSW60XGduringinstallation,donotuseexcessiveforce
wheninsertingtheSW60XG intotheexpansionslot.
6.Usethescrewfrom step3,above,tosecuretheSW60XGtothecomputer.
7.Carefullyreplacethetopcoverofyourcomputer.
NOTE:ToremovetheSW60XG, simplyreversetheaboveprocess.

3.SOFTWAREINSTALLATION
TousetheSW60XG,theSW60XG driverandthe applicationsoftwareshouldbeproperlyinstalledinyourcom-
puter.
CAUTION:IfyourcomputerisrunningWindows3.1,theinstallationprogramwilloverwritethecontentsoftheMIDI
Mapper.TheinstallationprogramalsomodifiestheAUTOEXEC.BAT,SYSTEM.INlandCONTROL.INIfiles.It'sagood prac-
ticetomakeback-upcopiesand/orprintoutthetextofthesefilesbeforeyouinstalltheSW60XGapplicationsoftware.
InstallationProcedureforWindows3.1
1.InserttheinstallCD-ROMintoyourCDdrive(Note:someSW60XG cardsmaybesupplied
withtheinstallationfilesonfloppydiskinsteadofCD-ROM).
2.Click[File]intheMenuBaroftheProgramManagerwindow,thenclick[Run].
RunDialogBoxwillappear.
3.Inthecommandlinetextbox,type"D:\SW60INST\SETUP.EXE".
NOTE:TheexampleassumesthatyouwillbeinstallingfromtheD (CD-ROM)drive.Ifyouareinstallingfromadrive
otherthanD,substitutetheletterdesignationofthedriveinwhichtheinstalldiskisinserted.
4.Pressthe<ENTER>key.
WhentheInstallDiskisverified,thefollowingSetupscreenwillappear.
5.Click[OK]toproceed.
Thedrive/directoryto whichtheSW60XG softwareistobeinstalledwillappear.

6.Ifthedefaultpath(C:\SW60XG)isacceptable,clickOK.
Setupwillprocedeanda dialogboxaskingifyouwouldliketo restartWindowswillappear.
NOTE:Thedefaultsettinginstallsthe softwaretotheC driveandSW60XG directory.Ifyouwanttousea different
drive/directory,typeinthenameofthedifferentdrive/directory.
7.IfyouwishtorestartWindows,click[Yes].WindowswillrestartandyourSW60XGsoftware
isinstalled.
8.Toverifyoperation,gototheSW60XG InstallerCD-ROMandopenXg_files\Demos.Select
anyfilewitha .midextensionanddouble-click.Preparetobeblownaway.TheWindows
MediaPlayerwillopenandplaythefile.
InstallationProcedureforWindows95
1.Doubleclickthe[ControlPanel]iconinMyComputer.
ControlPanelwindowappears.
2.Doubleclickthe[Add/RemovePrograms]iconintheControlPanel.
Add/RemoveProgramsPropertieswillappear.
3.Click[Install].
InstallProgramfromFloppyDiskorCD-ROMdialogboxwillappear.

4.InsertInstallDiskintoyourCD-ROMdrive(orfloppydiskdrive),andclick[Next].
RunInstallationProgramDialogBoxwillappear.
5.TypeD:\SW60INST\Setup.exe)andclick[Finish].(Youmayalsousethe[Browse]buttonto
locatethesetupfile)
6.A dialogboxwillappearasking"Startthesoftwaresetupprocedurenow?"
Click[OK].
The Setupscreenwillappear.
7.Ifthedefaultdirectory(C:\SW60XG)isacceptable,click[OK].
Setupwillproceedanda dialogboxaskingifyouwouldliketorestartWindowswillappear.
8.Ifyouwish torestartWindows,click[Yes].WindowswillrestartandyourSW60XGsoftware
isinstalled.
9.Toverifyoperation,gototheSW60XG InstallerCD-ROMandopenXg_files\Demos.Select
anyfilewitha .midextensionanddouble-click.Preparetobeblownaway.TheWindows
MediaPlayerwillopenandplaythefile.
AdditionstotheAUTOEXEC.BAT,SYSTEM.INIand
CONTROL.INIfiles
TheSW60XGsoftwareprogramwillautomaticallyaddthefollowinglinestothesefiles.

Mapper.'
Ifotherapplicationsoftware hasalreadyusedtheMIDIPortAddress 300,itwillbeneces-
sary toselectanaddressotherthan300intheSW60XG DriverSetup.TheMIDIPort
Addressjumpersettingmustalsobechangedtothesamenumber.Seepage5fortheMIDI
PortAddressjumpersetting.
SettinguptheMIDIPortAddress(SW60XGDriver)forWindows3.1
1.Doubleclickthe[ControlPanel]iconintheMaingroup.
TheDriverSetupDialogBoxappears.
2.Clicktoselectthe[YamahaSW60XGDriver].
3.Click[Setup]toopentheYamahaSW60XGDriverSetup.
4.ChangetheMIDIPortAddressasrequired.
ForWindows'95theMIDIPortAddressmaybechangedintheAdvancedsetupinthe
MultimediaProperties(ControlPanel).Theprocedureissimilarto thatforWindows3.1.
CAUTION:BesuretochangetheMIDIPortAddressjumpersettingtothesamenumberastheaddressyou have

SW60XGAPPLICATIONSOFTWARE
SW60XGofferstwotypesofeffectcontrollers,oneforWindows(EffectGearll)andtheotherforDOS(EFFECTCON).
EffectGearll
EffectGearllletsyouselectandapplyvarioustypesofeffectstothe microphone,theline-levelinput,ortheCD-
ROMaudiosignals.Youcanalsochangethepitchofa song,orreducethevolumeofthemainvocalfrom a
songplayingona CD(forkaraokesing-along).WhenusingEffectGearllitshouldbestartedbeforebeginning
MIDIfileplayback.
StartupProcedure
Doubleclickonthe[EffectGearll]iconandseea messagebox:
"StartinguptheEffectGearllduringMIDIfileplaybackwillresetallMIDIinstrumentstoinitial
values(drumsonchannel10,pianoonallotherchannels).Tohearthecorrectinstruments
restartplaybackof the MIDIfilefrom thebeginning."
You maysuppressthismessageboxbychecking"Donotshowthis.messageagain"
Click"OK"or <ENTER>andtheEffectGearllapplicationwillstart.

VOICECANCELbutton:Clickthisbuttonto reducethevolumelevelofthevocalfrom CD
audioplaybackforkaraokesing-alongaccompaniment.Theeffectivenessofthisfunctionmay
varydependingontherecordingonwhichitisused.
MINIMIZEbutton:Clickthisbuttonto resizetheEffectGearllwindowtoiconsize.
POWEROFFbutton:Clickthisbuttonto exitEffectGearll.
EFFECT MENU buttons: Clickone of thesebuttonstoselectaneffect.
Clickthe[Others]buttontodisplaytheeffecttypelist.You mayassignaneffectyoumostfre-
quentlyusetothe[Others]button.
EFFECT display box: Thename of thecurrentlyselected effect type willappearinthedis-
playbox.You canalsodisplaytheeffecttype listbydoubleclickingthisbox.
ON-LINEHELPbox:Thenameofthebutton/functionatwhichthemousepointeriscur-
rentlylocatedwillbedisplayed.
ALWAYS ONTOP:ClickheretoopentheAlwaysonTopdialogbox.When enabled,the
EffectGearllwindoworiconisalwaysshownontopofanyotherapplication.
PITCHSHIFTbuttons:Clickthesebuttonsto increaseor decreasethepitchofsoundbya

Yamahawarrantsto theoriginalpurchaserthatiftheSOFTWARE,whenusedinnormalconditions,
willnotperform thefunctionsdescribedinthemanualprovidedbyYamaha,thesoleremedywillbe
thatYamahawillreplaceanymagneticmediawhichprovesdefectiveinmaterialsorworkmanshipon
anexchangebasiswithoutcharge.Exceptasexpresslysetforthabove,theSOFTWAREisprovided
"asis,"andnootherwarranties,eitherexpressedorimplied,aremadewithrespecttothissoftware,
