IR-Pocket Thermometer
INSTRUMENT OPERATION:
Simply aim the thermometer at the target and press the ‘ easure’ button to display the
surface temperature. The distance to target ratio is 1:1 therefore the thermometer
should be positioned as close to the target as possible.
MIN/MAX:
First turn the instrument on by pressing the ‘ easure’ button, then press the ‘ ode’
button once for minimum or twice for maximum. The ‘ IN’ or ‘ AX’ icon will flash, press
the ‘ easure’ button to confirm the minimum or maximum mode. Keep pressing the
‘ easure’ button; the thermometer will display the minimum or maximum reading only.
LOCK:
The lock mode is particularly useful for continuous monitoring of temperatures. To utilise
the lock mode, first turn the instrument on by pressing the ‘ easure’ button, then press
the ‘ ode’ button three times for the lock mode function. The ‘LOCK’ icon will flash, then
press the ‘ easure’ button to confirm the lock measurement mode. The thermometer
will continuously display the temperature for up to 60 minutes or until the ‘ easure’
button is pressed.
°C OR °F:
To change the thermometer from °C to °F or from °F to °C, first turn the instrument on by
pressing the ‘ easure’ button, then press the ‘ ode’ button four times, the °C or °F
symbol will flash, press the ‘ easure’ button to change the scale.
EMISSIVITY:
The IR-Pocket Thermometer is supplied with a default emissivity of 0.95. The emissivity
can be changed from 0.1 (10E) to 1 (100E). Changes should only be carried out by
experienced personnel. To change the emissivity, first turn the instrument on by pressing
the ‘ easure’ button, then press the ‘ ode’ button five times for the Emissivity function.
‘95E’ will flash on the LCD screen, press the ‘ easure’ button to adjust the emissivity
value, then press the ‘ ode’ button again to exit the setup screen. For information

LED SPOT ALIGNMENT:
The LED indicator is not exactly the same as the target size. To get the best
measurement result, you need to aim at the target within a distance of about 2.54cm.
LCD ERROR MESSAGES:
‘Er2’ is displayed when the IR-Pocket Thermometer is exposed to rapid changes in the
ambient temperature. ‘Er3’ is displayed when the ambient temperature exceeds -10°C
(14°F) or 50°C (122°F). The thermometer should be allowed plenty of time (minimum 30
minutes) to stabilise to the working/ room temperature. Error 5-9, for all other error
messages it is necessary to reset the thermometer. To reset, turn the instrument off,
remove the batteries and wait for a minimum of one minute, reinsert the batteries and
then turn the unit on. If the error message remains, please contact York Survey Supply
Centre for further assistance. ‘Hi’ or ‘Lo’ is displayed when the temperature being
measured is outside the measurement range.
BATTERY REPLACEMENT:
When the ‘Low Battery’ icon indicates the battery is low, the battery should be replaced
immediately with 2x AAA batteries.

STORAGE & CLEANING:
The sensor lens is the most delicate part of the thermometer and should be kept clean
at all times. Care should be taken when cleaning the lens, using only a soft cloth or
cotton swab with water or medical alcohol. Do not submerge any part of the
thermometer. Allow the lens to fully dry before re-using it. The thermometer should be
stored between -20°C to 60°C (-4 °F to 40°F).
EMC/RFI:
Readings may be affected if the unit is operated within radio frequency electromagnetic
field strength of approximately 3 volts per metre, however, the performance of the
instrument will not be permanently affected.
GUARANTEE:
This instrument carries a 1 year warranty and guarantee against defects in either
components or workmanship. During this period, products that prove to be defective will,
at the discretion of the manufacturer, be either repaired or replaced without charge. The
product warranty and guarantee does not cover damage caused by fair wear and tear,
abnormal storage conditions, incorrect use, accidental misuse, abuse, neglect,
misapplication or modification. No warranty of fitness for a particular purpose is offered
and the user assumes the entire risk of using the product. Any liability by the
manufacturer is limited only to the replacement of defective materials or workmanship
and the manufacturer accepts no responsibility for consequential loss. In line with our
