CPU card replacement method
1. Confirm other possible causes of the fault have been eliminated.
2. Remove the CPU card from the Rack after unplugging the cables for power, I/O, manual panel, Ethernet connection and LSC
or LSLS connections as appropriate.
3. Remove the Heart from its socket by gently pressing the Heart into the SD socket, it should click and partially come out when
you depress it, and you can now remove it.
4. Remove the Licence card from its container by turning the disc anticlockwise with your thumb and you can now remove the
License card (it looks like a mobile phone SIM card).
5. Note2: Check for and remove optional items such as the battery backup kit for RTC, CPU I/O card etc.
6. Insert the removed items into the replacement CPU card and reverse points 3 and 4
7. Note3: If there is already a Heart fitted in the replacement CPU card it MUST be removed and fitted into the faulty CPU card
for safe keeping.
8. Fit the replacement CPU card into the rack reconnecting the cables for power, I/O, manual panel, Ethernet connection, and
the LSC’s or LSLS cards as appropriate.
9. Ensure the signal switch on the manual panel is in the OFF position.
10. Turn the power ON.
Handset method
1. Connect the handset terminal to the 25w connector.
2. Type PME=249 enter and immediately press the level 3
access button.
3. Type the command WIZ enter
4. Using the ‘+’key step through until you see ‘Heart’as
an option
5. Type in the number associated with the ‘Heart’option
6. Two options will then be offered: ‘1> Own Heart’and
‘2> Restore’
7. Press 2 to select Restore.
8. The display will show the last created “Restore Point”,
check the EM number against the Spec.
9. If you are satisfied that this is the correct configuration
for the site type ‘Y’
10. After a few seconds, the Blue LED on the front of the
CPU card will begin flashing.
11. You will now be instructed to turn OFF the signals via
the Signals On/Off Switch and press the program
button.
12. After a few minutes, the Blue LED will stop flashing and
remain ON. If this state is maintained for at least 10
seconds turn the power OFF then back ON.
13. The controller will now complete the standard safety
checks and restore to normal operation. You should
now investigate any faults using FFS and FDS.
WEB interface method (recommended)
1. Connect to the Controller using you chosen method,
USB or Wi-Fi, and open a browser.
2. Select ‘Status and Configuration’from the top menu
3. On the left-hand side of the web page select:
Controller, Heart, followed by Backup & Restore.
4. The web page will show Retained restore points and
the Latest restore points if available.
5. Choose the latest restore point (most recent date) and
click on Restore.
6. Follow the messages displayed on the web page.
7. Connection to the web pages will be lost while the
controller reinstates the firmware and configuration from
the Restore Point. After a few minutes, the Blue LED
will stop flashing and remain ON and access to the web
pages will be available again.
8. Check the Fault Table indicates that programming of
the other processors has completed successfully, then
as instructed turn the power OFF then back ON.
9. The controller will now complete the standard safety
checks and restore to normal operation. Investigate any
faults using the Fault Table and for detailed information
the System Log.
10. Phases and general operation can be monitored using
the web pages, e.g. Status and Configuration –
Controller –Phases.
Final steps
1. Once satisfied that the controller operation is correct the signals may be switched ON.
2. The CPU card that has been removed must now be labelled for return for repair with any pertinent information.
3. Further information on fault finding the ST950 can be found in the handbooks.
Tip! It is highly recommended that whenever any changes are about to be made to an ST950 controller that a retained restore point
is created prior to the change. This creates a point that can be returned to if the changes made turn out to be detrimental, even if
the CPU card needs to be replaced. Instructions on creating a retained restore point can be found in the handbooks and in the
Firmware Upgrade Quick Start Guide 667/HQ/46000/009.
