Product Features
2
Secure
3Com Dynamic Security Link When used with the 3Com Access Point
6000, delivers user authentication and
user-specific, 128-bit encryption keys that
change for each networking session.
3Com serial authentication When used with the 3Com Access Point
8000, provides an upper-layer authenti-
cation technique that uses both EAP-TLS
and EAP-MD5. Using these complementary
authentication mechanisms in tandem
enhances security by requiring a username/
password and an electronic security certifi-
cate to gain access to the network.
IEEE 802.1x Provides port-based network access control.
Clients can be required to authorize through
a RADIUS server to use the wireless LAN.
Encryption Uses 40-bit and 128-bit WEP encryption,
helping ensure all wireless transmissions
remain private.
Easy to Use
3Com Wireless LAN Manager Lets you create profiles that reflect specific
wireless LAN settings for each place you
travel. The software also displays connection
status and features simple-to-use diagnostic
tools.
Designed for upgradability Makes it easy to upgrade to the latest
drivers and firmware.
Future Enhancements (Available Fall 2002)
Autonomous load balancing Maximizes throughput by monitoring access
point traffic and connecting to access points
that provide the most optimal bandwidth.
802.11d roaming Receives signals from Access Points that
support 802.11d and then automatically
activates unique geographical wireless LAN
settings—eliminating the need to manually
define these settings on each client.
Enhanced Wireless LAN Manager Automatically detects locations and activates
wireless LAN profiles that you define. It will
also automatically launch a VPN session
based on location, making getting con-
nected even easier.
3Link Makes launching multiparty software
applications such as Microsoft NetMeeting
simple. 3Link, a peer-to-peer software appli-
cation, automatically discovers and displays
other 3Link clients on your local area or ad
hoc network. Simply select users from a list,
then click the invitation link. If the recipient
accepts, the session is set up automatically.
Since there’s no need for an Internet
connection, it’s an excellent solution
for mobile collaboration.
Windows CE/Pocket PC 2002 drivers Provides wireless connectivity for
handheld PCs.
