The purposeof this manual is to assist the user in the safe and reliable operation of the product

Notes Regarding Operational Safety
The below section of this User’s Guide contains information andwarnings of a kind that must be
followed by owner/operatorpersonnel. Warning and advisorysymbolswhichareused on the
base unit of the Pannoramic® Confocal RX and in section 1.1.3 Warningand Information Labels
havethefollowing meanings:
Disconnect mains plug!
Remember to unplugthe power cord before you open the Pannoramic® Confocal RX main
unit for maintenance.
Crush hazard!
There is crush hazard at the following areas of the device:
•At the movement area of the slide tray during operation. Please note that the
digitizing process has to be interrupted and the tray moved via the software to the
output position before removing it.
•The tray feeder door, the cross-beltarea of the tray guide, and thesafety plate
during operation.Please notethat the digitizing process has to be interrupted and
the tray moved via software to the output position before removal.
•The two hinges of the service door.
•The inner side of the door opener mechanism.
•When reaching by the pipette unit into the farthest area of the device.
The Pannoramic® Confocal RX, includingany of its original accessory components,shouldnot be
operated in any other way than described in chapter 1.1.1 Intended use.Any of thefollowingnotes
should bestrictly observed:

The Pannoramic® Confocal RX may notbeoperated by other than properly instructed
persons. Operatingpersonnel must be fully aware of the potential dangers which a
particular field of application involves. The Pannoramic® Confocal RX is a precision
instrument which maysuffera significant reduction in operational functions or even physical
destruction following interventionperformed in any nonconforming manner. If the
equipment is used in a manner not specified by the manufacturer,the protection provided
by the equipmentmay be impaired.

specifications before you turn power on.

The Pannoramic® ConfocalRX does not include any specialfacilities to protect from samples
with an etching, potentially infectious, toxic, radioactive, or otherhealth-damagingeffect.
You are under obligation to comply with allcurrently binding legislation, notably,national
accident prevention rules when handling samples of this kind.
Warning!
Use of this instrument in a dry environment, especially if syntheticmaterial is present
(syntheticclothing, carpets,etc.) may cause damagingelectrostatic dischargesthat may
cause erroneous results.
Warning!
A defective Pannoramic® Confocal RX is not classified as domesticwaste. It must be
properly disposed in accordancewith currently valid legalrequirements.
Caution!
In the event of any non-conformingtypeof use, including non-conforming use of assemblies
or single parts, no liability willbe assumed by the Manufacturer. This shallalso apply to
service or repair work of any kind, which is performed by other than authorized service
personnel. Allclaims for warranty and warrantyservices willbenulland void in any such

Caution!
Dirt or dust may adversely impact the operating capability of the Pannoramic® Confocal RX.
For this reason, measures must be taken to eliminatesuch influences on a maximum
possibledegree. During periods of non-use, the Pannoramic® ConfocalRX mustbe
protected with a dust cover. Check that power is turned off before you put the cover on .

Do not position the equipmentso that it is difficult to operate and to disconnect the device

The safety level of the equipment afterservicing willbe identical with levelof theoriginal
equipment.

Electric power to the Pannoramic® ConfocalRX is supplied via an external mains power
supply unit. It allows for operation at line voltages in the range of 100 V to 240 V ±10%, 50/60
Hz, without any extra facilities required for voltage transformation.
There is no further operator (user) action required in case of residual risks.
Special attention should bepaid to allinformation provided and the procedures described in
section 8.3 Safety information.

Notes on Warranty
3DHISTECH Ltd. –as the Product Manufacturer –warrantsthe Pannoramic® ConfocalRX to be
free from faults in material and workmanship at the moment of installation. Defects must be
notified immediately on identificationand maximumefforts must beundertaken in order to
minimizedamage. Onreceiving noticeof a fault, the Product Manufacturer willbe under
obligation to remove the fault, at his own option, either by providingadequate repair services or
by delivering a faultless product for replacement. No warrantywill be accepted in cases of natural
wear (notably, wear and tear) or improper product handling.
The Product Manufacturer will refuse any liability in the event of damage resulting from faulty
operation, negligenceor unauthorized interventioninto the product, notably,from the
replacement of product parts or the usage of accessory parts from other manufacturers.Any
such case will void the user’s claim for warranty.
Except for actions which are explicitly described in this User’s Guide, you are prohibited from
performing anykind of maintenanceor repair work at the Pannoramic® Confocal RX. Only
authorized 3DHISTECH Servicepersonnelor specifically authorized representatives areallowed to
handlerepair work. In case of malfunction contact3DHISTECH ServiceSupport first.

A phenomenon that leads to a dramatic loss of fluorescence emission intensity (a
fluorophore permanently loses the ability to fluoresce) due to photon-induced chemical
damage and covalent modification, therefore fluorescent signals cannot be properly
detected.
SWAP
A file that is used as a temporary location on the computer to store information that is not
currently used by the RAM.
Virtual Slide / Slide
A digital image of a thin glass plate on which specimens are mounted for microscopic study:
a dynamic, interactive image that you can manage, save, magnify, zoom, name, evaluate,
annotate, mark, comment, send it to a colleague electronically for co-operation or advice,
and so on.

1.1 Product overview
1.1.1 Intended use
The Pannoramic® Confocal RX is a digital scanner microscope installed with an Aurox CC88
confocalunit and high-numericalaperture immersion and/or dry objectives designedto use
transmitted light and reflected light fluorescenceto digitize biologicalsamples and specimens
(histological sections, typically) based on confocalprinciples.

The Pannoramic® ConfocalRX devicemust beoperated by a properly instructed person
only. Operating personnelmust be fully aware of the potential dangers whicha particular
field of application involves. ThePannoramic® ConfocalRX is a precision instrumentwhich
may suffer a significant reductionin operational functions or even physicaldestruction
following interventionperformed in any nonconformingmanner.
Warning!
After each scanning make sure to inspect the digital slide for over-exposed areas. In case the
slide is scanned based on improperly set parameters,it can highly affect the result because
of information loss.
Warning!
Any modificationto a hardware or software component of the PC will highly affect the
functionality of the scanner program.
Warning!
Do NOT install any other application than the Pannoramic® Scanner Softwarefor Research
control software application and itsauxiliary drivers on thecontrol computer.

with the 40×/1.2 NA (equivalent to 62× magnification) C-Apochromat objective.
