User Instructions
Please read the instructions carefully before the installation or operation of the water heater.
This user guide is meant for your future reference and is applicable for the instant gas water
heater model HIG-VNS-006.
• Only A. O. Smith recommended professional installers will install the A. O. Smith gas
water heater. A. O. Smith will not be responsible in case of improper installation of the
water heater by any unauthorised service personnel.
• Prior to installation and usage of this water heater, users should obtain necessary
permissions and documentation from their respective gas supply company and applicable
local and National authorities. A. O. Smith will not be responsible for obtaining or
applying for Permissions on behalf of the users.
• If the user installs the water heater by themselves or do it by using the self prepared
installation materials, A. O. Smith will not be liable for any adverse effects on normal
operation and service performance of the water heater.
• After installation and operation of the water heater, users should inspect the water
heater regularly and make necessary maintenance according to the service conditions.
If any abnormality occurs, stop the operation of the water heater immediately and dial
our Customer Care No. 1.800.103.2468 for repair to ensure the normal, safe and reliable
operation of the water heater. Incase the user suspects gas leakage, follow the
instructions provided in page 2.
• Prior to any maintenance or repair of the water heater, please ensure to cut off the gas
and power supplies.
• This water heater is equipped with power vent system and the installation of exhaust
piping is mandatory. It is forbidden to operate the water heater without connecting the
exhaust piping. The piping should be done as per the instructions provided in this user
guide and exhaust piping should never be tampered with. If any damage is observed in
the exhaust piping, users should disconnect the gas and power supplies and stop using
the water heater; dial our Customer Care No. 1.800.103.2468 for further instructions.
• Before installing the water heater, users should ensure that the gas type and rated gas
pressure is as per the specifications mentioned in the user guide. This water heater
should NOT be used with any other type of gas including LPG . Users should not tamper
the water heater with an intent to use the water heater with other non-recommended
gas type and sources. Tampering the gas valve and other components is strictly
prohibited as it may cause serious property damage and or personal injury or lose of life.
Tampering will also render the warranty of the water heater null and void.
• This water heater requires AC power supply to operate. Refer specifications for electrical
supply requirements. The water heater should be provided with reliable electrical
earthing. It is prohibited to connect the earth wire of the socket or power cord to neutral
wire or tap water pipes.

Caution: Failure to follow the instructions provided in the user guide may lead to risk of
accidents, CO poisoning and could cause property damage and / or personal
injury or death.
Warning: Power-on and operation will be permitted only after reliable grounding is
provided for the power socket. The water heater is strictly forbidden for use in
circumstances where no safe grounding or well-drained floor drain is provided.
In the installation area, it should be ensured that the water leakage of the water
heater or joints may not cause damage to the articles in adjacent region or lower
portion of the building.

Warning:
• Carefully plan where you install the heater. If the gas water heater is not
installed properly, fatal accidents can result from lack of air, carbon monoxide
poisoning or fire.
• Place the water heater in a location where water leaks will do NO DAMAGE to
adjacent areas.
Safety Information

Do not store or use petrol, diesel, kerosene or other flammable, combustible or corrosive
vapors and liquids in the vicinity of this or any other electrical appliance.
What to do if you smell gas
• Close the gas supply valve.
• Do not try to light any appliance.
• Do not touch or operate any electrical switch or fixed
line / mobile phones.
• Immediately call the gas supplier by using your
neighbor’s phone. Follow the gas supplier’s
instructions.
• If you cannot reach the gas supplier, call the fire
department.
Water temperature over 52°C can
cause severe burns instantly and
may cause death from scalds.
Children, disabled and elderly are

(8 Bar) rated pressure.

Read and follow water heater warnings and instructions.
Vapors from flammable liquids will explode and catch fire causing death or
severe burns.
Do not use or store flammable products such as petrol, diesel, kerosene, solvents
or adhesives in the same room or area near the water heater.
Keep flammable products:
1. Far away from heater,
2. In approved containers,
3. Tightly closed and
4. Out of children's reach.
Water heater has burners:
1. Which may come on anytime and
2. Will ignite flammable vapors.
Vapors:
1. Cannot be seen,
2. Are heavier than air,
3. Go a long way on the floor and
4. Can be carried from other rooms to the pilot flame by air currents.
Installation:
Do not install water heater where flammable products will be stored or used
unless the main burner and pilot flames area is at least 18" above the floor. This
will reduce, but not eliminate, the risk of vapors being ignited by the main
burner or pilot flame.

Key Features
This gas water heater has three burners which results in optimum combustion
of gas. This gas water heater is amongst one of the lowest gas consumption
models available in the industry and is the most economical to operate. It also
largely reduces carbon monoxide emissions.
This gas water heater has dual gas solenoid valve. Dual gas solenoid valve
ensures reliable and effective cut off of gas supply to the water heater, thus
providing an additional layer of safety.
This gas water heater has an air pressure switch that detects the exhaust gas
pressure. In case it detects that the exhaust flue pipe could be blocked, it
switches off the gas water heater (by cutting off the gas supply).



This gas water heater has a patented carbon monoxide detector. CO detector
identifies the presence of carbon monoxide in the vicinity of the water heater.
If CO is beyond 150 ppm, then it will cut off the inlet gas supply to the water
heater completely, and gives out an audible alarm.

Safety Features
The ignition device in largely available gas water heaters in the industry is
battery powered with a single ignition pin. When the battery power
diminishes, ignition may not happen and may lead to explosive build-up of
natural gases in large quantities which may lead to dangerous combustion.
A. O. Smith gas water heater has a single ignition pin explosion proof system
that overcomes this problem.
In case the flame is extinguished during operation, the flame failure
protection system ensures that the gas supply will switch off automatically.
And there will not be any supply of natural gas to the heater, which ensures
safety.
In case the supply of gas pressure is beyond specified limits, the gas pressure
stabilisation device will ensure that the gas is supplied at the optimum
pressure to the burners, thus ensuring safety.
Flame Failure Protection
Coupled with ducting, power vent exhaust system expels the burnt gases out
of the water heater through the ducting which ensures effective removal of
burnt gases from kitchen/bathroom to the outside atmosphere.
Power vent works effectively in the windy external conditions as well.
