Carefully unpack the contents of the package and verify them against the
checklist given below.

Please inform your dealer immediately should there be any wrong, missing, or
damaged parts.
If possible, retain the carton, including the original packing materials. Use
them again to repack the unit in case there is a need to return it for repair.
To qualify for product updates and product warranty registration, fill in the
Owner Registration Card and return it to Accton Technology Corporation.

The SwitcHub-7s contains six 10BASE-T RJ-45 Ethernet ports, and one RJ-45
port for either 10BASE-T or 100BASE-TX connection (detected by auto-
sensing). Each of these ports support full-duplex or half-duplex operation.
The smart design built into the front display panel and configure options
provides a friendly interface that simplifies installation and network
troubleshooting. If you are already familiar with basic network operations, you
should be able to install this switch as described below:
1. Unpack the SwitcHub-7s.
2. Find a location close to the network devices you need to connect, and within
easy reach of an electrical outlet.
3. Mount the switch on a desktop or any other flat surface.
4. Ports 1 - 6 operate at 10 Mbps; while Port 7 automatically adjusts to 10
Mbps or 100 Mbps, depending on the transmission speed of the connected
device. Connect servers or workstations to the RJ-45 station ports. To
connect to another switch or hub, run cable from the daisy-chain port on this
switch (Port 7MDI) to a station port on the other device. Otherwise, run
cable in the opposite direction –from a daisy-chain port on the other device
to a station port on this switch.
Use 100Ωcable for all connections, Category 3 or greater for 10 Mbps
Ethernet and Category 5 for 100 Mbps Ethernet. For standard connections,
use straight-through twisted-pair cable. However, if you must make a direct
connection between MDI or MDI-X ports (i.e., MDI to MDI, or MDI-X to
MDI-X), then use crossover cable. Be sure the length of any twisted-pair
connection does not exceed 100 meters.

For integrating legacy networks, Port 7 provides for connection via either
100BASE-TX or 10BASE-T. It uses auto-sensing to dynamically set the
required transmission speed at 10 or 100 Mbps.
5. The SwitcHub-7s can serve as a collapsed backbone, or can be connected to
any other network interconnection device via one of the 10 Mbps ports or the
100 Mbps port. (Refer to Chapter 3 for sample applications.)
6. Set the transmission mode for each port to full duplex or half duplex using
the Configure button. (Refer to Full/Half Duplex Mode Selection in Chapter 2.)
Full-duplex communications can only be supported for a dedicated link (i.e.,
set communications to half duplex if you are connecting to a shared collision
domain). Remember that the selected mode must correspond to that
supported by the connected device.
7. Verify network communications by ensuring that -
• you have made all the necessary connections
• you can access any connected resources
• the hub’s indicator LEDs are functioning properly
Note: For devices connected to Port 7, the system will automatically detect
transmission speed (10/100 Mbps). However, note that unless connected
devices are operating at half duplex (i.e., system default), you will have to
manually set the transmission mode via the Configure button. (Refer to Full/Half
Duplex Mode Selection in Chapter 2).
If you encounter any problems in installing the SwitcHub-7s, refer to Chapter 2
for a detailed description of installation procedures, or to Appendix A for help
in troubleshooting.
