the dialer. Be sure to OBSERVE PROPER POLARITY: positive

When a contact closure is used
to
activate the burglary channel,
connect dialer terminals

normally open device, Any closure, either momentary (of at least
0.5
seconds duration) or lock

terminals 1 4 will activate the dialer. Devices for 24

these terminals. If a6V input is used on terminals

When a input is usedto activatethe fire channel,
connect dialer terminals 2 3

If
a 6V input is used on terminals 2

a contact closure cannot
be used on terminals 3 4.
If
you wish to prevent (abort) the dialer from continuing to make outgoing calls once the local control or

The dialer will then continue to run until it iscompletely RESET, but will be
automatically disconnected from the telephone line and no further calls will be made. Once the dialer has

it
will be automatically reconnected to the telephone line and will be ready to report a subse

to
connect to telephone line and handsets. See No. 620's instructions.
If
you wish the dialer to complete all of its calls, even
if
the activating device is RESET,
or if the dialer is
operated by a momentary contact device, leave the spade lugof the BLACK flying connected

For protection of the circuitry against telephone line inducedtransients,
connect to a good earth ground.
(A cold water pipe or electrical box may be used in some locations.)
Additional transient protection can be provided by a No. 255 Lightning Protector
which connects directly
across the telephone line and to ground.
A No. 663 used for line seizure also provides transient protection for the No.612
by isolating its circuitry
completely from the telephone line. In this case, a
No.
255 may be installed across the telephone line
entering the

and

INSTALLATION OF
THE TAPE
CARTRIDGE
Outside
The tape cartridge
is
of special endless
-
loop design. This meansthat the tape always travels
from the insideof the tape reel (bottom
of
the cartridge) tothe outside of the tape reel (top
of the cartridge).Slack inthe exposed
loop
can be automatically taken upsimply by pulling
the tape in its normal direction, always starting at the bottomof the cartridge. This is impor

to
know since there may be slack in the tape loop
when
you
first install the cartridge.

By rotating the cartridge, position it

THE
DIALER
SHOULD
ALWAYS
BE
TESTED
AFTER
INSTALLING
A
NEW
TAPE
CARTRIDGE.
TO
THE INSTALLER
Regular maintenance and inspection
(at
least annually) by the installer and frequent testing by the
user are vital
to
continuous satisfactory operation of any alarm system.
The installer should assume the responsibility of developing and offering a regular maintenance
program
to
the user
as
well as acquainting the user with the proper operation and limitations of the
alarmsystem anditscomponent parts.Recommendationsmustbe includedfor
a
specificprogramof
frequent testinq (at least weekly) to insure the system’s proper operation
at
all
times.
In
the
Event
of
Telephone Problems
Inthe event
of
telephone operational problems, disconnect the tape dialer by removingthe plug from the phonejack. We recommend that the
installer demonstrate disconnecting the phones on installation of the system. Never disconnect

Line Seizureunit. Doing
so
will result inthe
loss
of the phone lines. If the regular phone works correctly after the tape dialer has
been disconnected from the phone lines, the dialer has
a
problem and
should
be returned for repair. If upon disconnection of the dialer, there
is still a problem on the line, notify the telephone company that they have a problem and request prompt repair service. The user may not under
any circumstances (inor
out
of
warranty) attempt any service or repairs
on
the system. It must be returned
to
the factory or an authorized ser
-
vice agency
for
all repairs.
NOTE: Whenthe system is communicating and a No.
663
is
used, the phone line may be seized and the user phones may be disconnected.
Even if a
No.
663
is
not used, there will be an interference with the phone fine during communication. Under normalcircumstances, the phone
line disruption should only befor

minutes.However,linedisruption could
last
upto
15
minutes
if
trouble exists.
If
this occurs regularly, con
