Advanced Bionics Auria User manual

Troubleshooting the
Auria
What do you need in a kit to troubleshoot the Auria?
Spare headpiece and cable
Spare PowerCel
FireFly earhook or The System Sensor
Access to meaning of FireFly displays (see next page).
Access to meaning of System Sensor displays (see next page).
Contact numbers
It might also be useful to have a Dri-Aid kit in case the
processor gets wet.
A PowerCel charger will give you information as to whether the
PowerCel is charging correctly.
If there is a problem with the PowerCel charger try this link
pages 26 to 28

Listening earphones?
Advanced Bionics say that there is no need for listening
earphones as the FireFly or System Sensor will tell you anything
you need to know. If the LED indicates no problem and the
user is still complaining of problems, it is better to replace the
processor.
However, it may be useful to listen to the signal through a
radio aid with listening headphones.
What if the processor gets wet?
Remove the PowerCel or PowerPak from the Auria. Shake out any
excess water. Place the Auria and headpiece in the Dri-Aid Kit
overnight. Do not attempt to speed up the drying process by using a
hairdryer or other equipment as this can cause further damage.
If you have no success, contact the implant centre.
FireFly earhook
Once the battery is connected this should glow yellow continuously.
Glows continuously All working well
You could listen to the internal microphone using listening
headphones but you will also need to use a headphone booster set.
Advanced Bionics do not see the use of a listening headphones as
essential.
If you have no FireFly, you need a System Sensor which looks like
this: Press the button: if an orange light
appears, the System Sensor is working.
Hold the sensor over the headpiece on
the child’s head, about 1cm from it. If a
green light glows steadily all is well.
No light Check the battery.
Check the program
position is correct.
Yellow blinking light
(once a second) Ensure headpiece
retention is good. If
still flashing, change
headpiece/cable.
Flickers continuously Ensure that the child
is wearing their own
processor and not
that of another child
or the other ear.
If not, please refer to the table below:
Glows continuously All is well
No green light Check battery of
processor.
Green light flashes
once a second Check headpiece
retention and change
headpiece/cable if
necessary.
Green light still
flickering. Ensure that the
correct processor is
being worn. Contact
your CI centre.
What else could you try?
•Check the connections, including PowerCel, earhook and
cables.
•Check the volume dial.
•Check for visible damage to components.
•Is the headpiece positioned over the implant site?
•Is the PowerCel charged and inserted properly? Try another
PowerCel.
•Are you using the appropriate program? Try another program.
•Check the Microphone/System status using the LED.
•If using the T mic, replace the earhook with a standard hook
which works using the processor’s own microphone.
•Replace the Cable/Headpiece.
•Clean the battery contacts on both your PowerCel and Harmony
Processor.
•Remove any materials (hat, headband, scarf, etc.) that may be
covering the microphone.
•You could try another audio input source such as an auxiliary
microphone or the Direct Connect earhook interfaced with an
audio device (i.e., CD/MP3 player)
but
you will need to use a
program that is designated to accept an external audio source.
If this resolves the problem, place your Processor in the
carrying case/Dri-Aid overnight. If no sound is present the next
day, contact your audiologist.
•Contact your audiologist for further troubleshooting if necessary
