3 Technical description
The aereus® arco is a multi-stage air purifier using a recirculating air system for eradi-
cating cigar/cigarette smoke and odours as well as for air sterilisation and improv-
ing interior air hygiene with regenerable pre-filter.
The device has been designed solely for use in interior rooms such as restaurants, con-
ference rooms, assembly halls, airports and toilets. It is also suitable for use in maturing
rooms of food manufacturers where a bioburden occurs.
The aereus® arco cleans the recirculating air of fine particles and removes germs as
well as a broad spectrum of odours through their oxidation. This reduces the likelihood of
mould formation even where air humidity is high and considerably improves the sense of
comfort in catering areas such as restaurants and the working atmosphere in industrial
areas.
Construction and method of operation
Fig. 1: General view
The air purifier first draws in the air to be cleaned through the air inlet surfaces (1)
at the bottom and after filtration releases it again via the air outlet surfaces (2) at the
top. This ensures recirculation of the room air.
The device consists of a removable outer case (3) of stainless steel or aluminium,
which is available in different designs. Inside, the functional components and the
radial fan (5) that generates the air flow are housed in a strong functional frame (4)
of aluminium.

Further instructions on the radial fan can be found in the technical documentation in
appendix 7 provided by the company ebmpapst.
A handle (6) on the top and freely swivelling castors (7) (module II) or fixed feet (mod-
ule I) make handling and transport easier.
To open the device for servicing purposes (see section 5), the two supplied Allen screws
of the handle (6) must be undone and removed. The two halves of the outer casing can
then be removed upwards (remove mains plug first).
A 3m connecting cable with earthed plug leads out of the aereus® arco.
hydroSorp® prefilter
Fig. 2 hydroSorp® prefilter
Fine dust, aerosols, grease and other particles are first separated and trapped in the spe-
cial hydroSorp® filter. The filter consists of two filter mats located behind the air inlet
surfaces. The two mats are inserted behind the retaining rails of the functional frame. The
special hydroSorp® filter consists of a high-grade ester foam material.
The hydroSorp® can be regenerated or washed.
Further information on this can be found in section 5.1.

Plasma-chemical oxidation – plasmaNorm®
Fig. 3: High-voltage electrodes
Directly above the pre-filter are located the electrode plates. The transformer integrated
into the device applies a high voltage to the electrode plates, thereby generating plasma.
The plasma occurs as a result of the extended supply of energy to the gaseous air (fourth
state of matter. 1st solid, 2nd liquid, 3rd gaseous, 4th plasma). This micro or non-thermal
reaction causes oxidation of the odour molecules in particular. The hydroSorp® pre-
filter located before this protects the electrode plates from impact with particles.
The electrodes of the electrode plates are made of stainless steel and are supported by a
non-conducting carrier material. The plasma is generated within the plates.
Active carbon purification

Technical description
page 15
The second-stage filter consists of active carbon fleece. Driven by the radial fan, the pre-
cleaned air flows through an active carbon cylinder (10), which is retained by a clamp-
ing ring (11).
Operation
Fig. 5: 4-level control system
The aereus® arco has a 4-level control system employing buttons. From the zero posi-
tion, the device can be switched on and set to one of 4 different output levels by increasing
or reducing the flow rate of the radial fan.
- switch off device
- increase output top one of the four different levels
- display of output level
- reduce output to one oft he four levels
- press once: device switches of after 10mins, press twice = 20mins, etc.
The buttons simultaneously activate the high-voltage transformer, thereby increasing or
reducing the energy output for plasma generation.

Washing the hydroSorp® filter
The hydroSorp® filter consists of a high-grade ester foam material. The sponge-like ma-
terial can be washed out and can therefore be almost completely regenerated. The filter
should be washed at regular, not too long intervals. This will substantially increase the life
of the filter mats.
Attention
When used in kitchens: hydroSorp® filter mats are able to trap and
hold a large quantity of grease, so can heavily contaminate a wash-
ing machine! If necessary, have the filters washed by a specialist
cleaning company.
1. Remove the filter as described in the previous section.
2. Wash the filter in a washing machine at a maximum of 90 °C using mild detergent
and the delicates wash cycle, do not spin!
3. Then leave the filter to drip dry.
4. Insert filter mats, fit the casing halves as in the previous section.
Cleaning the outer case
Care of the aereus® arco is essentially restricted to regular cleaning of the outer case.
Cleaning of the case consists solely of wiping with a cloth and suitable cleaning agent. If in
doubt, refrain from using the cleaning agent.
5.2 Maintenance
Attention
Maintenance work should be carried out by a trained electrician only.
Make sure you also pay attention to the safety instructions in section
2.5, in particular.
Replacement and wearing parts can be obtained on request from airtec competence
GmbH. The manufacturer recommends you keep a stock of replacement and wearing
parts as necessary.
Servicing/maintenance of the aereus® arco should be done once a year. In addition to a
function check of the device, this procedure should include a check and, if necessary, re-
placement of all replacement and wearing parts.

hydroSorp®
High-efficiency physical sorption separator for aerosols and micro-droplets from water-based com-
pounds, emulsions etc. in exhaust air from food production facilities
Pre-filter for active carbon installations etc.
Application
This high-performance sorption separator acts as a pre-filter for active carbon or oxidation systems (odour
reduction).
hydroSorp® protects the subsequent filter systems from clogging by grease and water-based emulsions,
thus extending filter life and enabling cold oxidation plants to function properly..
hydroSorp® is as effective as a pre-filter to ventilation systems.
Dust removal performance meets all applicable standards.
Description
The hydrosorp® sorption separator collects and agglomerates the smallest droplets; once a certain droplet
size is reached they run off through a porous gutter.
Patented in Europe, hydroSorp® consists of a very high quality hydrophilic ester foam layer, thermally
treated to create an internal grid structure. This guaranties fast drainage of absorbed fluids thus preventing
unwanted droplet extraction from the rear of the separator.
According to need, the separator can be cleaned with an automatic washing installation or by hand. In winter
a heating element prevents freezing.
Maintenance
The hydroSorp® separator is fully regeneratable. The ester foam material can be cleaned in an ordinary
washing machine at 60°C using non perfumed detergent.
The cleaner the material is kept, the longer its life cycle.
(See separat washing instructions)
Residuals
Residues from the filtering and washing process must be disposed of according to the rules and regulations
in country of operation.
hydroSorp® itself is usually disposed of as non-hazardous waste.
