1. Introduction
This Vista™USB Link Adapter is specially designed to work with Windows Easy
Transfer, a new feature on the most recent Windows operation system - Vista. It is a
USB 2.0 host-to-host link adapter allowing you to migrate files and settings from an
existing computer running Windows XP or Windows Vista to another new computer
running Windows Vista. No additional driver and software are required on Windows
Vista. With the adapter in conjunction with Windows Easy Transfer, users can transfer
user accounts, files and program settings directly from one PC to another without
having to transfer the files to intermediary data storage. For those who need bulk data
backup/restore, synchronization or file sharing, it’s an ideal transferring solution.

•Intel Pentium 1GHz or faster PC
•128 MB RAM or higher
•USB port (2.0 port required for Hi-Speed transfer)
•Windows®Vista and XP SP2

2. Installation
On Windows Vista
Simply plug the Data Transfer Cable to the USB port on your computer and it’s ready
to use. No further installation is required.
On Windows XP
You must install Windows Easy Transfer first before you plug the adapter. Please
follow the steps below to proceed.
Step 1 Insert the provided CD into your CD-ROM drive. An autorun screen will
automatically pop up. Click “Install Windows Easy Transfer”
Step 2 Click Next to proceed.
Step 3 After reading the license agreement, select I Agree and click Next.

Step 4 Wait while the installation is proceeding.
Step 5 Click Finish to complete the installation.
Step 6 Plug one end of the Data Transfer Cable to the USB port on your XP computer.
When Easy Transfer Cable screen appears, you may select Transfer files and
settings to launch Windows Easy Transfer or select Take no action as required.

3. Using Windows Easy Transfer
3.1 Launch Windows Easy Transfer on Both Computers
Windows Easy Transfer is a Windows-based utility that allows two computers to
transfer files and settings from a computer running Windows XP, or Windows Vista to
another computer running Windows Vista.
To use Windows Easy Transfer, make sure you plug the adapter into the USB ports
on both computers and then start Windows Easy Transfer on both computers.
Step 1 To start the utility:
On Windows Vista:
Select Start > Programs > Accessories > System Tools > Windows Easy
Transfer.
On Windows XP:
Select Start > Programs > Windows Easy transfer.
Step 2 After launching Windows Easy Transfer, just follow the on-screen instructions.
Pay attention to the following notices when you are using the utility:
Step 3 You must launch Windows Easy Transfer on both computers on which you
want to transfer files/settings so that they can detect each other.
Step 4 Transfer can only be made from Windows XP/Vista to Windows Vista. You
cannot transfer files/settings from Vista to XP.
Step 5 When prompted to choose a transferring media, select USB cable.
Note: You can only transfer files/settings between operation systems using the same
language. For example, you cannot transfer files/settings from a Spanish system to
an English system.

3.2 Transfer Example
The following example demonstrates how to transfer files from Windows XP to
Windows Vista. (Some of the screenshots may not appear; actual screens that
appear on your computer depend on your selection and usage)
Windows XP Windows Vista
1. Click Next.

2. Select Use an Easy Transfer Cable.
2. Select Yes, I have an Easy Transfer
Cable.
3. At this point you should wait until the
message “A connection to the other
computer has been detected” appears
at the bottom.
The message appears only when the
same screen appears on the other
computer and will soon disappear.

Once the connection message is
displayed, this screen will soon disappear.

4. Select the transfer item as required. In our
example, we select Advanced options to
customize the selection.
4. When this screen appears, stop at this
point.
5. Select the folders you want to transfer and
click Next.
6. This screen only appears if
account-related items are selected in
previous step. Select whether to transfer
files to existing or new account on your
target computer. Then click Next.

7. Now the transfer will start. Wait until the
transfer is complete. At this stage, your
target computer may receiving files as shown
opposite.
5. Wait until the transfer is complete.
8. When this screen appears, click Close to exit
the utility.
6. When transfer is complete, a summary of
transferred items will appear. Click Close
to exit the utility.
