Do not use the unit in places which are extremely hot, cold, dusty or humid.
In particular, do not keep the unit:

Note on listening with the headphones
●Listen at moderate volumes to avoid hearing damage,
cDo not wear the headphones while driving or cycling. It may create a
traffic hazard.
●You should use extreme caution or temporarily discontinue use in
potentially hazardous situations, such as walking, jogging, etc.
●Wear them properly Lis left, Ris right.
●The headphones should be worn with the longer cord behind your neck.

When listening to atape recorded with Dolby BNR, press MODE/SET
to display ON.

To obtain powerful heavy bass, press MODE/SET to display ON.

To play back both sidee repeatedly, press MODELSET to display ~~.
To play back both eides once, press MODE/SET to display ~.
Playback stops at the end of the reverse side.

To skip asection longer than 12 seconds, press MODE/SET to display
ON.
In this case, the section is automatically fast forwarded and playback
resumes from the beginning of the next recorded section.

Cassette tape
●Take up any slack in the tape with apencil or similar tool before use.
Slack tape may break or jam in the mechanism. +❑
●C-100 or longer tapes areextremely thin and easily deformed ordamaged.
They are not recommended.
To prevent accidental erasure -+ ❑
Break off the plastic tabs on the cassette after recording with ascrewdriver
or other similar tool.

USING ON RECHARGEABLE BATTERY+ ❑
When using the rechargeable battery for the first time, charge it as follows.
On AC 220-230 VCharge it for about 2hours.
On AC 115 VCharge it for about 5hours.
1Insert the battery Into the battery charger.
2Recharge the battery.
Plug the charger into awall outlet to recharge the battery.
After recharging, remove the battery from the battery charger and
disconnect the charger from the wall oullet.
3Insert the battery into the battery compartment with the 0and 0
marks correctly aligned.

Playback and recording times may vary according to the conditions of use.
●Recharge when the OPE/BATl indicator goes out or the operation stops

Slide OPEN Ato open the cassette holder, and insert acassette.

Note on rechargeable battery
●Use only the supplied battery charger to recharge the supplied
rechargeable battery.
●Do not charge for more than 24 hours.
●The battery can be recharged approximately 500 times. When operation
time becomes noticeably shorter, replace with anew one. Please contact
your Aiwa dealer.

adjust the VOL control of the remote control.
Basic operation
Pressthe following buttons. “

Tochange the playback side +> REPEATduring playback
■RADIOOFF while in stop mode
Note
After you press abutton, if a beep sound is heard and then operation does
not start, check to see that the battery does not wear out.
Music sensor function
You can search for the beginning of atrack if there is a4-second or longer
blank between tracks.
To locate the beginning of the current or previous track, press REW
up to 5times during playback.
To locate the succeeding tracks, pressFF upto 5times during playback.
To repeat atrack (One track repeat)
If there is a4-second or longer blank between the tracks, you can play
back the current track repeatedly.
Keep 4> REPEAT pressed during playback for 2seconds.
To cancel, press +> REPEAT.
Note
The music sensor, one track repeat and blank skip functions may not work
properly in the following cases:
●when the recording level of the tape is low;
●when operations are performed around the blank section.
To repeat a5-second phraae
Press PHRASE on the main unit during playback. The tape is rewound to
apoint approximately ●5seconds before the point where the button was
pressed and playback resumes automatically.
●The time may vary according to the playback point of the tape when the
button is pressed.
Tape direction memory
●You can check the tape direction in the display.

The playback side does not change when ■RADIO OFF is pressed to
stop the tape. However, playback starts from the front side of the tape
after:
.The cassette holder is opened.
●The rechargeable battery or dry cell battery is removed.
Caution
Do not attempt to open the cassette holder forcibly if it cannot be opened.
This may result in the unit being broken. To open the holder, recharge the
rechargeable battery or replace the dry cell battery with anew one.

Insert an R6 (size AA) dry cell battery with the oand 0marks

Battery replacement
Replace the battery when the OPEIBATT indicator goes out or the operation
stops after a beep sound is heard.
Note on dry cell battery
●Make sure that the ~and Omarks are correctly aligned.
●To prevent the risk of electrolyte leakage or explosions, never recharge
the battery, apply heat to it, or take it apart.
●When not using the battery, remove it to prevent needless battery wear.
●If liquid leaks from the battery, wipe thoroughly to remove.

Using on AC house current
Contact your Aiwa dealer and purchase an AC adaptor. Connect the plug
of the AC adaptor to the DC 1.5 Vjack on the main unit and to awall outlet. VOLUME

Radio broadcasts have different frequency ranges and change in different
steps in different countries.
This unit has three world reception areas: “L15H (North and South
America) ”,” JPH (Japan)”, and” EU (other areas)”.
1Release HOLD.
2Press RADIO ON/BAND repeatedly to select AM, FM1 or FM2.
FM1 and FM2 have the same frequency range. Both can be used to
tune in to an FM station.
3Press TUNING UP or DOWN to tune in to astation.
After listening, press ■RADIO OFF.
For quick tuning
Keep TUNING UP or DOWN pressed for f-2 seconds.
When astation is tuned in to, the frequency indicator stops automatically.
However, it may not stop if the broadcast signal is weak.
For better reception -+ ❑
FM: The headphone cord functions asthe FM antenna. Keep it extended.
AM: Turn the unit to find the position which gives the best reception.

The reception area is factory-set to “EU”. Select” _lPH” to listen to the
radio in Japan, select “u5Ff” to use in North and South America.

1Relaase HOLD.
2Press RADIO ON/BAND to turn on the radio.
3While pressing MODE/SET, keepTUNING UP pressed for 2seconds
within 1second.
The reception area (“u5fl” “JPH” or” Eu”) flashes in the display,

You can preset up to 10 stations on each band (AM, FM1, FM2).
1Releasa HOLD.
2Press RADIO ON/BAND to turn on the radio.
3Press MENU repeatedly until “Auto” is displayed.
4While “Auto” is dieplayed, press MODEJ3ET.
The unit searches for and memorizes the receivable stations.
Auto presetting ends after 10 stations are preset on each band,
After Iiatening, press ■RADIO OFF. If you do not press it, the preset
stations may not be retained correctly.
If flashing stops during operation
Repeat the procedure from step 3.
If there ia astation you wish to skip during presetting
When astation is tuned in, scanning stops and the tuned station is heard
for 3seconds. Press MODELSETwithin these 3seconds to skip this station.

Insert acaasette.
To record on both sidas continuously, insert the cassette with the
side to be recorded first facing the cassette holder.
To record on onfy one aide, inserfthe cassette with the recording side
facing inside of the unit. Then, press ■RADIO OFF to display R,

Tune into astation.
To record from the microphone+@
Connect the supplied microphoneto the MIC jack and orient it to the
soundsource. Fix the microphone with attached clip ~.
Keep the REC switch slid for 1second while pressing the red button
When broadcast signals are very weak, stations cannot be preset
automatically. Preset them manually.
Manual presetting -+ ❑
Youcan preset up to 10stations under each preset number (1-1O)on each
band (AM, FM1 and FM2).
1Tune in to astation.
2Keep MODE/SET pressed for about 1sacond until “PRESET’’flashes
in the dispfay.
3Press PRESET -k or -repeatedly to select the preset number
while “PRESET” is flashing.
4Press MODE/SET while “PRESET” is ffashing.
To preset more stations, repeat the procedure from the beginning.

Press ■RADIO OFF.
If ahigh-pitched sound is heard while recording from AM
Set OSC to the position which gives the least noise,
If ahigh-pitched sound is heard while recording from the microphone
Move the headphones and the microphone farther apart, or reduce the
volume.
To change the recording side while listening to the radio
Keep ■RADIO OFF pressed for more than 2seconds.
Note
●Adjusting the volume and the DSL do not affect the recorded sound.
●Use Type I(normal) tape for recording. If you use Type IV (metal) or
Type 11(High/CrOz) tapes, sound that has been already recorded may
not be erased completely.
●You cannot record on side whose erasure prevention tab is broken off. If
you start recording side Aon a cassette whose tab for side Bhas been
broken off, recording will stop at the end of side A.

Listening to preset stations
1Release HOLD.
2Press RADIO ONIBAND repeatedly to salact AM, FM1 or FM2.
3Press PRESET +or –repeatedly to select the preset number.
After listening, press ■RADIO OFF.
mDeleting preset stations
1Select the preset number you wieh to delete.
2Whila prassing MODEA3ET, keep TUNING DOWN pressed within 1
second until the preset number goas out.
Todelete more preset stations, repeat the procedure from the beginning.
MAINTENANCE -+ ❑
To clean the head and the tape path
After every 10 hours of use, clean the head and the tape path with a
commercially available head cleaning cassette. For details, refer to the
operating instructions of the head cleaning cassette. After cleaning the
head and the tape path, wait until cleaned parts dry bafore inserting tapes.
To clean the cabinet
Use asofl clothlightlymoistenedwith amild detergentsolution.
