Welcometouse Tectalk Watchcom
Please read carefully thisuser's manualin order to have a better
understanding of allfunctions of TectalkWatchcomtwo-way radio.
Principal characteristicsofthisunit
l Watch type two-way radio with adjustable watchband

LiquidCrystal DisplayScreen
1. Channelnumbers (1-8): display the current channel;
2. Transmissionindicator (TX): lights upwhen transmitting amessage;
3. Reception indicator (RX): lights up when receiving a message;
4. Volume (8 levels): displays the current volumesetup;
5. Callsymbol:lights up when sending a "call";
6. Battery capacity display: shows battery level;
7. Voice control(VOX): lightsup when the VOX function is activated;
8. 12-hour time display (am/pm);

Descriptionof Structure
9. Power/Menu: Press shortly to enter into the watch mode. Press and
holdthis button to enter into the menu, you willhear a short melody.
10. Talk/Call(multifunction); Hold this button to send a message, and
quickly press it twice to send calling sound;
11. Up key:.
12. Down key: adjusts the volume during conversation mode (default
mode). Adjusts channels and time in Menu mode
13. Scan: press this key to enter the channelscanning;
14. MIC: built-in microphone;
15. Speaker: built-in speaker;
16. Antenna.
BatteryInstallation
One lithiumiconiccellis delivered with theTectalkWatchcom. Please proceed
with installation andreplacement of the cellasfollows:
1. Press down the lock button on the side of the battery cover ofthis unit to
open it.
2. Place thelithiumiconic cellin to the cellcompartment. Please pay
attention to the polarity of the cell(plus/minus).
3. Close the cellcompartment and lock tightlythe lockbutton of the batter
cover.
! Special Warning:Donotconnect the chargingcable if no
batteryisinserted !
This talker is furnished with an A/C charging cableand can charge thelithium
battery inthe following manner:
1. Open the earphone/ charger jack cover onthesideof this unit;
2. Connect the A/C charger to theA/C jack;
3. Connect the A/C charger to the earphone/charger jack. During charging
process, the cellvolume icon is shown on the display screen. Once
charging procedure completed, theicon willautomatically disappear.
Note: On first battery charging, please charge the cellfor at least 12 hours.

BatteryVolume andLowBatteryOperation
If the battery level becomes insufficientthe battery icon willlight up. If the
battery level becomes insufficient during conversation mode, the Watchcom
willautomatically changeinto watch mode after approx.15 sec.At thistimeit is
advisible to charge the battery.Otherwise, afteran hour inthe watch mode, the
display screenwillcompletelyturn off. The device is nowturned offand must
be charged again forat least 12 hours, inorder to be able to use it again.
Use ofthe Watchcom
l After the battery isinstalled, the Watchcomautomatically turns on in the
communication mode (default mode);
l Press and hold the Power/Menu key for 3 seconds to enter into watch
mode, which only displays the time;
l In the watch mode, press and holdPower/Menukey for 3seconds to enter
the communicationmode;
l In the communication mode, press Talk/Callkey to send a message, and
release theTalk/Callkey toreceivea message;
l In the communication mode, press Power/Menu key to enter into the
menu. Press Up or Down key to chose different menu items. Exit the
Menu mode, and press Talk/Callkey or wait for 10 seconds untilthe unit
exits the menu mode automatically and returns to enter communication
mode. (Note: a short beep isheardon each setup setup);
l Press Up or Down key (in the default mode) to adjust volume to an
appropriate level.
Structureof the Menu
The Watchcomhas two functions that can be chosen in the menu:

Channel Setup
l In the communication mode, press Power/Menu key to enter into the
menu. The numeric display will flash onthe display, press Up keyto
set up channel1-8. Press Down key to set up Channel8-1;
l Press Talk/ Call key orwait for 10 seconds untilthe unitexitsthe menu
and automatically enters into communicationmode.
SettingVOX (voice control)
1. In thecommunication mode, pressPower/Menu toenterinto the menu.
The VOX icon will flash onthe display screen.
2. Press Up or Down key to switch between VOX ON/OFF function.
Whenthe VOX is set toON, the VOX icon will appearon the screen,
communication is possiblewithout pressing theTalk/Callkey.You'll
have to press the Talk/Callkey in order to transmit a message, when
the VOX function is turnedOFF, therewillbeno VOX icon on the
display.
3. Press and hold the Talk/Callkey or wait10 seconds untilthe unit exits
the menu mode and returns to communicationmode.
Please connect the earplugsand microphone in order to make use of the VOX
function as comfortable as possible, and to increase security when driving or
similar.
Note: PleasedoonlyusetheVOX function, if the environmentalnoise allows it
use. If toomuch noise is around you, VOX naturallyis not able to make a
distinction between your voice or the noises around you. It may happen, that
the walkie-talkie automaticallyturns into transmission mode. Please, in such
cases, always use the Talk/Callkey.

SettingTime
l In the communication mode, press Power/Menu key to enter into the
menu. The hours willflash on the display. Press Up key to set 1-12hours
(am) and 1-12 (pm). Press Down key to set 12-1 hours (am) and 12-1
(pm);
l Press Power/Menu key again, and the minutes willflash on the display.
Press Up key to set 00-59 minutes, and pressDown key to set 59-00
minutes;
l Press talk/Callkey or waitfor 10 seconds until the unit automaticallyexits
the menu mode and returns to communicationmode.
SettingCall tone
This talker disposes of two sounds to beselected:
l In the communication mode, press Power/Menu key to enter the menu
and chose the menu item"Call": The Callsymbolwillflashon the display
screen with music sound. Press Up key or Down key to set your favorite
music sound;
l Press Talk/Callkey or waitfor 10 seconds untilthe unit exits the menu
mode and returns to communicationmode.
Channel Scanning
l In the communication mode, press theScan key to scan the activities of
channels 1-8.If and active channelisfound, the unitstopfor4-5 seconds,
before it continuesthe scan;
l Press Talk/call key to exitthe scan mode.
Transmit andReceive
With this walkie-talkie you can communicate with one ormore persons at the
same time (Note: both/allparties must adjust their walkie-talkie to the same
channel).
l During communication mode (default mode - should it be in watch mode,
press Power/Menu key for 3 seconds to enter the communicationmode)
the Watchcomis automaticallyin receipt mode, where you can hear the
other sidetalk;
l Press and hold the Talk/Callkey in order to talk to your interlocutors, and
the TXicon willlight up on the display.Please speak in normalvoice,
and keep your lips at a distance of approx5 cmfromthe microphone.
After you finish your message, releasethe Talk/Call key and you willhear

a beep indicating the end of a message (rogerbeep)
l While listening to amessage fromyour interlocutor, the RX iconlights up
on the display. Press Up key or Down key to adjust volume to an
appropriate level.
Sendinga Call tone
In order to callyour interlocutor, press Talk/Callkey twice to senda calltone.
During transmission of the calltone, the Callicon lights up on the display. If
your interlocutor received the call tone, you can hear a short callconfirmation
sound. Afterwards the unit willreturn into default mode.
UsingEarphones
l Open the earphone/charger jack cover on the side of the unit;
l Insert the earphoneplug into the earphone /chargerjack and adjust the
location of your earphone;
l Set the Watchcominto VOX mode. When the VOX functionisset to ON,
you do not haveto maintainthe earphone/talkkey pressed inorder totalk.
If the VOX function isset to OFF, keep pressing the earphone talk key in
order to talk;
l Whenyou useyour earphone to hear the other side talk, press Up key or
Down key to regulate volume to an appropriate level.
Automatic Noise Suppression
This walkie-talkieis furnished with an automatic noisesuppression, whichcan
helpto automatically cut off the faint signals and noise arising on inactive
channels.
Automatic EnergySave Function
The automaticenergy savefunction substantiallyprolongs battery life.If during
5 seconds no signals are received, the Watchcomautomatically enters the
energy save mode, but continues to bein receiptmode.

Troubleshooting
Nopower: Check batteries. Ensurethat the batteries are properlyinstalled.
If the batteries havebeen insertedlongtimeago, the contactsmay be corroded.
Please clean contacts of battery andradio! The batterymay be discharged or
too weak, recharge thebattery. Check volume setting: Press the UPkey to
increase the volume.
Weak reception:The receiving signalmay be weak and/or out of range. The
reception range willvary depending on terrainand environment. Open fields
provide the maximumrange, while steel/concrete structures and use in
buildings and vehicles may limit therange substantially.Wearing the radio
close tothe body,such as inapocket oron abelt,willdecrease range; change
the location of the radio.In clearunobstructedoutdoor conditions, the
communication range may reach about 2,5km.
Distortedaudio: If you are transmitting,speak ina normaltoneof voice, in a
distance of approx. 5 cmfromthe microphone, and do not cry!If you are
receiving, adjust the volume to a comfortablelevel. Weak batteries may also
be a reason for distorted audio, or radios, which are operated tooclose
together.Two radios must be operated in a minimumdistance of 1.5 m;
increase your distance.
If the problems persist, please contact your retailer and/or sendthe unit to a
repair service. Don't miss to add a detailed description of the problems.

onlyinEU countries and someother states applying the R&TTEdirective of
the European Community.However,there are stillsomerestrictions (as of date
of this usermanual)
to use PMR 446 in following countries:
Belgium: No restrictionsfor travelers using the radio in Belgium
free ofchargeand license for less than3months.
Residentsof Belgiummust applyforaradiooperating
license according to Belgianregulations.
Italy: PMR446 radios are subject to registrationand feefor
residentsin Italy.Travelers andtourists may use

Additional hints foruse and
securehandling of the PMR-radio
Voice control(VOX)
In ordertoobtainafaultless functioning of the Vox-function please onlyuse the
headset that is delivered with your PMR-radio. Insert the jack plug of the headset into
the lateralsocket of the radio. Afterwards switch yourradioto Vox-function. Please
note, that the transmission buttons on both,headset and radio, can also be used
when Voxis activated.
Securityhints
Always keep the radio,and especiallythe extractablebattery and battery cover, out
of reach forsmall children, as itcontains smalland dangerous pieces, that might be
swallowed.
Please handlethe battery with care and avoidshort circuits at thecontact on the
bottomof same– imperatively insert the battery with the contact downwards into the
battery case, so that the contacts are intouch with the spring contact in the radio.
Power supply canonly work this way.
Never place alithiumionicbattery with itscontact on ametal
surface. Never touch the contacts of thebattery with metallictools
or other metallicobjects. Incase ofshort circuits,lithiumionic
batteries may heat up very quicklyand may even explode and
entraindanger offire and injury. Dispose ofused batteries via
publicdisposalcompaniesor returnthemto your supplier. Lithium
ionicbatteriesobtaintheirassigned capacityonlyafter somecharging cycles. They
are subject to usualwear. It is normal, that the battery capacity decreases after some
timeof use. Abattery may obtainapproximately300-500 charging cycles, however,
the European warranty of 24 months does notinclude batteries.
