Albalá Ingenieros | Manual ISW3000C01
1. DESCRIPTION
1.1. The ISW3000C01
The ISW3000C01 module is an automated switch for DVB-ASI and DVB-over-IP streams
that operates based upon the presence of signal at its inputs, the status of a diverse set
of parameters of the input streams and the information received via a GPI, all based
upon the priorities that the user assigns to each input.
The device provides two inputs, MAIN IN and RES IN through which two DVB-ASI streams
are received, labeled ASI MAIN and ASI RES. The module also has a 1Gbit/s Ethernet port
via which it can receive two more DVB-over-IP streams (UDP and RTP, with and without
FEC). These are labeled IP MAIN and IP RES.
The unit includes two processing channels known as TS1 and TS2 for simultaneous
analysis of two of the four input streams available, and one of these can be selected for
delivery to the output.
The Transport Stream (TS) selected for delivery to the output at any given time is
distributed to four DVB-ASI outputs and can also be transmitted via IP using the
Ethernet interface. In case of a power supply failure or extraction of the main board of
the module from its mounting frame the rear board performs a bypass from the ASI
MAIN input (MAIN IN) to one of the outputs (OUTp).
The ISW3000C01 module can function in three different operating modes depending on
the type of signal received. One mode is valid for any DVB TS, another mode can only be
used with DVB-T type transport streams and the third mode is only for use with DVB-T2
type transport streams. The characteristics of each operating mode are described in the
following:
• Generic DVB mode:
- Allows both seamless and non-seamless operation.
-Error detection can activate for any of the parameters indicated in ETSI TR 101 290
V1.2.1 as a First Priority, which are the following:
- TS_sync_loss. Loss of synchronization.
- Sync_byte_error. Sync_byte not equal 0x47.
- PAT_error. Errors that prevent the PAT from being obtained.
- Continuity_count_error. Errors in the packet continuity counter.
- PMT error. Errors that prevent the PMT from being obtained.
5

Albalá Ingenieros | Manual ISW3000C01
- PID_error. Referred PID does not occur for a user specified period.
-The 1 pulse-per-second (1 PPS) and 10MHz reference inputs are not used in this
mode.
- Provides a buffer of 45000 packets that allows the module to act as a TS line delay.
• Dedicated DVB-T mode:
- Seamless-only operation.
-Error detection occurs according to all the parameters indicated in Generic DVB mode
and according to the presence of a megaframe sync (MIP packets).
-The 1 PPS reference input is used to measure the delay between the input signals and
to provide a reference delay for the output signal.
-The output delay is set by the user and is independent of the delay from the input
signals. The output delay must be greater than the input delay in order for the
module to operate properly.
-Each input includes a 45000 packet buffer, allowing a delay of up to one second for
any TS up to 60Mbit/s.
• Dedicated DVB-T2 mode:
- Seamless-only operation.
-Error detection occurs according to all the parameters indicated in Generic DVB mode
and according to the presence of a superframe sync (Timestamps packets).
-The 1 PPS reference input is used to measure the advance in time that the input
signals arrive in with respect to the transmission time of the superframe and also for
referencing the delay of the output signal. The module allows two functional modes:
relative to the PPS signal or absolute within the DVB-T2 time epoch. In this second
mode the timing reference can be taken from the rear bus of the mounting frame or
from the 1 PPS signal itself if it provides that information. For both cases an GPS
receiver from Albalá Ingenieros is required.
-The output delay is set by the user and is independent of the delays with which the
input signals are received. The output delay must also be greater than the greatest
input delay for proper operation.
-Each input provides a buffer of 45000 packets that allows them to delay any TS of up
to 60Mbit/s by up to one second.
In order to perform seamless switching for DVB-T and DVB-T2 frames the ISW3000C01
includes a 1 PPS reference input and a 10MHz reference input for synchronization of
different transport streams. The module also includes GPI inputs to flag external errors
within the transport streams received and a GPO output to signal that the unit cannot
deliver a valid TS at the outputs.
In addition to functioning as an automatic switch, the ISW3000C01 can be used for
other functions such as conversion of DVB-ASI transport streams to DVB over IP and vice
6

Albalá Ingenieros | Manual ISW3000C01
versa, elimination of jitter in the transport streams being transmitted over IP and the
conversion of IP protocols such as elimination or insertion of forward error correction
(FEC), conversion from UTP to RTP, etc.
The module provides three switching modes: automatic, semi-automatic or manual. All
changes to the input selected or in the status of the inputs are indicated via the front
panel LEDs and a beep.
It is possible to monitor the ISW3000C01 status remotely using a communications
controller module installed in the same mounting frame. In addition, certain controller
modules provide SNMP management and the ability to record events in a file including
date and time information for further analysis.
The ISW3000C01 is a TL3000 terminal line module and can be housed in a three rack
unit (3 RU) UR3000 mounting frame or a 1 RU UR3100 mounting frame.

3. INSTALLATION
THE ISW3000C01 MODULE CONTAINS ELECTRONIC DEVICES SENSITIVE TO
ELECTROSTATIC DISCHARGE. Always use antistatic bags clearly identified
with a high degree of shielding for storage and transportation.
The ISW3000C01 module is composed of two parts: one IPA3000P11 main board and
one IPA3000P10 rear board. Both parts must be installed in a UR3000 or UR3100
mounting frame following the instructions in the corresponding section of this chapter.
3.1. Initial inspection
Verify that the package has been properly handled during transport. After opening the
packaging, check that one IPA3000P11 main board and one IPA3000P10 rear board are
inside.
You must notify your Albalá Ingenieros distributor or dealer of any damage or defects
observed.
Follow the instructions in this manual to install this module in the mounting frame.
3.2. Safety instructions
•This equipment must be connected to a mains outlet with a protective
earth connection. Never use extension cords that do not have protective
earthing connection. The lack of an effective electrical connection between
the ground pin in the mains input connector of the equipment and the
protective earth of the electrical power distribution can cause serious harm.
•All modules of the Albalá Ingenieros TL3000 terminal line can be
hot-plugged or unplugged without suffering any damage or affecting the
processes that are currently taking place in other modules in the same
mounting frame. When a module is installed in an empty bay of a mounting
frame, it is necessary to mount the rear board that is part of that module.
Prior to installing this board, the mounting frame must be disconnected
from the power supply network. This is required because in addition to the
risk of electrocution for the person handling the device it is possible that a
high instantaneous current coming from the power supply could damage
the connectors and components of the mounting frame and/or the rear
board.
13

Albalá Ingenieros | Manual ISW3000C01
•The ISW3000C01 module and the mounting frame should always be
installed, maintained, operated and removed by personnel with sufficient
technical qualifications. The equipment should never be placed in damp
areas, near splashing liquid, or in explosive or corrosive atmospheres.
Neither modules nor mounting frames can be used in applications that
could endanger human life.
3.3. Environmental considerations
This symbol indicates that this equipment must be deposited at a collection
point for proper waste treatment once it has reached the end of its useful
life.
3.4. Power considerations
The UR3000 and UR3100 mounting frames can house as many ISW3000C01 modules as
will fit in them.
3.5. Installing the module in the mounting frame
The steps needed to install the ISW3000C01 module with the rear board in the
mounting frame are:
1 - Disconnect all power cords from the power supplies of the mounting frame.
2 - Remove the blank panels covering the front and rear of the empty bays chosen for
installing the ISW3000C01 in the mounting frame.
3 - Install the IPA3000P10 rear board ensuring that its 12-pin connectors are properly
aligned with the mounting frame´s mating connectors. Check that the orientation of
the board is correct by looking at the placement of the text printed on it according to
the illustration below.
4 - Attach the rear board to the mounting frame with two M3 metric screws and tighten.
5 - Insert the IPA3000P11 board (main board of the ISW3000C01 module) into the front
of the mounting frame. The edges of the card slide into two plastic guides inside the
mounting frame.
6 - Affix the main board to the mounting frame using the two screws included on the
front panel.
After these steps, the module is ready to be connected to other equipment.

3.6. Interconnection
The following figure shows the ISW3000C01 module rear board connector layout.
Rear view of the ISW3000C01
The ISW3000C01 module includes two inputs (MAIN IN and RES IN) and four DVB-ASI
signal outputs (OUT AUX,OUT AUX,OUT and OUTp). The OUTp connector corresponds to
the output that is protected with a bypass relay such that signal integrity is maintained
in case of a power supply failure or extraction of the module from the mounting frame.
The unit also includes two reference inputs (1PPS and 10MHz) and an RJ-45 Ethernet
port (ETHERNET). Finally, the module has four GPI inputs (F_IP_R,F_IP_M,F_ASI_R and
F_ASI_M) and one GPO output (F_OUT).
The Ethernet port uses an RJ-45 connector. The cable used should be UTP Cat 5 or better
(Cat 5e or Cat 6) in order to guarantee proper 1Gbit/s operation.
16

Albalá Ingenieros | Manual ISW3000C01
The GPIO interface includes the following signals:
TERMINAL NAME FUNCTION
6 F_ASI_M This input indicates that that an error has occurred in the signal received at the
main DVB-ASI input (ASI Main) somewhere before entering the Module.
5 F_ASI_R This input is identical to the previous one except that is refers to the reserve
DVB-ASI input (ASI Res.).
4 F_IP_M This input is identical to the previous one except that is refers to the main DVB
over IP (IP Main) input.
3 F_IP_R This input is identical to the previous one except that is refers to the reserve
DVB over IP (IP Res.) input.
2 F_OUT This output indicates that no signal is present at the output of the Module.
1 GND Ground connection.
The rear interconnection board is not designed to withstand mechanical stress. The
wiring must be fastened properly to the frame where the mounting frame is housed to
prevent the rear board from supporting the weight of the cables.
3.6.1. Electrical DVB-ASI video connections
All DVB-ASI digital video electrical connections are BNC type. Below are several
recommendations to consider when wiring electrical signals.
BNC connectors used on cables must be suitable for the high frequencies of DVB-ASI
digital video signals: it is strongly recommended to use high quality connectors from
well known manufacturers.
All coaxial cable used must be Belden 8281 or similar. This type provides the greatest
lengths because it is used to calculate the equalizers in the ISW3000C01. Cables
carrying signal between the module and the devices should use single piece
construction, avoiding spliced sections with double BNC female or barrel connectors.
If it is necessary to split the cable into two sections the same type of wire should be
used in both sections.
The use of analog video coaxial cables (RG-59 type or similar) is not recommended for
digital video except for very short distances.
17

3.6.2. GPI connections
The GPI inputs use 3.81mm pitch terminal block connectors and their equivalent
circuit is as follows:
Before connecting these signals please consult the maximum values shown in the
specifications section. Never connect dangerous potentials to GPI inputs.
3.6.3. GPO connections
GPO outputs use 3.81mm pitch terminal block connectors and their equivalent circuit
is as follows:
Before connecting these signals please consult the maximum values shown in the

This section describes the significance of the front panel indicators of the ISW3000C01
module and their remote control and monitoring ability.
4.1. Front panel description
The appearance of the front panel and the elements it contains are shown in the
following illustration.
Front panel of the ISW3000C01
The meaning of each LED is explained as follows:
19

Albalá Ingenieros | Manual ISW3000C01
In the INPUT FAIL box:
ASI MAIN,
ASI RES,
IP MAIN,
IP RES: Red. These error indicator LEDs correspond to each of the inputs of the
module. As long as a given input channel is selected as one of the TS being
processed, they light up continuously when no signal is present, when
one of the parameters of the stream being supervised is incorrect or when
the external GPI error input activates.
In DVB-T and DVB-T2 modes these LEDs blink when there are problems
between the delay/advance with which their corresponding signal is
received and the delay/advance that has been set for the output.
These LEDs remain off if their corresponding input is not selected for
processing and in all other cases.
1PPS / 10MHz: Red. These LEDs light up to indicate errors in the 1 PPS or the 10MHz
reference inputs. They light up continuously whenever the signal at the
corresponding input is invalid.
In the ETHERNET box:
LINK: Green. This LED lights up continuously when a link has been established
via the Ethernet port.
ACT: Green. This LED blinks when there is activity on the Ethernet port.
1G / 100M: Green. These LEDs light up to indicate the speed of the Ethernet interface.
1G indicates a speed of 1Gbit/s. 100M indicates a speed of 100Mbit/s. If
both of these LEDs are off and the LINK is lit the speed is 10Mbit/s.
In the INPUT SELECTION box:
ASI MAIN,
ASI RES,
IP MAIN,
IP RES: Green. These LEDs indicate which input TS is being delivered to the
output.
In the MODE box:
AUTO,
HALF AUTO,
MANUAL: Green. These LEDs indicate which operating mode is selected.
SEAMLESS: Blue. This LED lights up when seamless switching between two channels
is possible.
