FlameSAFE ABE Powder Fire Extinguisher Service and Maintenance

AMPAC Safety Pty Ltd does not service, maintain or recharge
fire extinguishers. This service and maintenance information is a
guide to assist qualified service personnel in the inspection and
maintenance of AMPAC Safety FlameSAFE fire extinguishers
only. It is important that all warnings and notes on the fire
extinguisher and in AS1851 are complied with. Serious injury
could occur if these instructionsarenot followed. AMPAC Safety
assumes no liability for service, maintenance or recharge of fire
extinguishersby publishing thisdocument.
When maintenance is indicated, it should be performed by
trained persons using proper equipment. Fire extinguishers are
pressure vessels and must be treated with respect and handled
with care. They are mechanical devices and require periodic
maintenance to be sure that they are ready to operate properly
and safely. Extinguishers should be serviced only with original
and genuine spare parts –the use of substitute parts constitutes
thevoidof any warranty coveringthe equipment.
1. REGULAR INSPECTION
The extinguisher shall be inspected in accordance with the
requirementsof AustralianStandardAS1851.
2. EXTINGUISHERRECHARGEINSTRUCTIONS
Warning
A. Before attempting to recharge be sure this extinguisher is
completelydepressurized.
B. Usea regulatedpressuresource.
C. Check and calibrate regulator gauge at frequent intervals,
theregulator gaugeshould be used todetermine whenthe
intendedcharging pressure hasbeenreached, do not use
theextinguisher gaugefor thispurpose.
D. Never leave an extinguisher connected to a regulator of a
high pressure source for an extended period of time. A
defective regulator could cause the cylinder to rupture due
toexcessivepressure.
The Fire Extinguisher is to be recharged in accordance with
AustralianStandardAS1851.
Ensurethe extinguisher is fully discharged by opening the
DischargeValveuntil allpressureisreleased.
Remove the Discharge Valvefrom thecylinder.
Emptytheremainingcontentsof thecylinder.
FlameSAFEABE Powder
Inspect the cylinder internally, with the aid of an
inspection light, to ensure cylinder is clean and free
from damage.
Inspect the cylinder externally to ensure it is free
from damage.
Fill cylinder with ABE Powder 90%, refer Table 1 for
quantity.
Check Valve Assembly to ensure correct operation.
Lubricate Valve “O” Ring with petroleum jelly.
Screw Valve Assembly into cylinder ensuring “O”
ring is correctly seated.
Pressurise extinguisher with either Air or Dry
NitrogentopressureinTable1.
Fix Safety Pin to handles and fit Safety Tie to
preventaccidental discharge.
Examine extinguisher to ensure that there are no
leaks.

3. EXTINGUISHER PRESSURE TEST INSTRUCTIONS
Ensurethe extinguisher is fully discharged by opening the
DischargeValveuntil allpressureisreleased.
Remove theDischarge Valvefrom the cylinder.
Emptytheremainingcontentsof thecylinder.
Inspect the cylinder internally, with the aid of an inspection
light, to ensurecylinder iscleanandfreefrom damage.
Inspect the cylinder externally to ensure it is free from
damage.
Conduct Hydrostatic Test in accordance with Australian
StandardsAS1851.
Following Hydrostatic Test ensure the cylinder is dry and
freefrom contaminantsinternally.
Fill cylinder with ABE Powder 90%, refer Table 1 for
quantity.
Check Valve Assembly to ensure correct operation.
Lubricate Valve “O” Ring with petroleum jelly.
Screw Valve Assembly into cylinder ensuring “O” ring is
correctlyseated.
Pressurise extinguisher with either Air or DryNitrogento
pressureinTable1.
Fix Safety Pin to handles and fit Safety Tie to prevent
accidental discharge.
Examineextinguisherto ensurethat therearenoleaks.
