engine oil level
Caution:
Running the engine with insufficient oil can cause serious engine damage. Be
sure to check the engine on a level surface with the engine stopped.
1. Remove the oil filler cap (A, Fig. 25) and check the oil level:
It should reach the top of the oil filler neck (B).
2. If the level is low, fill to the top (C, Fig. 26) of the oil filler neck with the
recommended oil. Add the engine oil slowly to avoid spillage as the capacity
of the engine oil tank is small.
4.4. engine start
Warning:
Never pull the throttle trigger while starting the engine. If you pull the throttle
trigger, the motor will speed up and the blades will start to spin. This could cause
an accident or injury.
Warning:
To start the machine, you must stop in the area indicated in Fig.33.
•Slowly push the primer barrel 6 to 8 times (A Fig. 34).
•Put the switch (B, Fig. 35) in position «I».
•Pull the choke lever (D, Fig. 36) to the “closed” position.
•Pull the starter rope (Fig. 37) until the first ignition of the engine is heard (no
more than five pulls). A machine being turned on for the first time may
require additional pulls.
Never wrap the jumper cable around your hand.
•When the engine starts, gradually move the choke lever
•Warm up the engine until it runs smoothly.
•When pulling the starter rope, do not use the full length of the rope. String,
since it isor it may cause the rope to break.
Do not let go of the starter rope suddenly, hold the handle and slowly rewind
the rope.
Note: Start the engine warm following the starting instructions above, but do not
use the close position to restart.
Warning:
Weather conditions and altitude can affect carburetion. Don't let bystanders get
lost in the work area while adjusting the carburetor. Keep the motor running at full
speed the entire time you are cutting.

13
4.5. High altitude operation
At high altitude, the standard carburetor air-fuel mixture will be excessively rich.
Performance will increase and fuel consumption will increase.
High altitude performance can be improved by specific modifications to the
carburetor. If you always operate the engine at altitudes higher than 1,500m
above sea level, ask your nearest official dealer to make these modifications to
the carburetor.
Even with adequate carburetor thrust, engine power will decrease by
approximately 3.5% for every 300m increase in altitude. The effect of altitude on
horsepower will be greater than this if no modification is made to the carburetor.
Caution:
Operating the engine at a lower altitude than the carburetor can result in reduced
performance, overheating, and serious engine damage caused by an air/fuel
mixture that is too lean.
4.6. Engine run-in and intake
The motor reaches maximum power after 5-8 hours of activity. During this break-
in period, do not idle the machine at full speed to avoid excessive operating
stress.
4.7. Flooded engine or easy start
The engine may be flooded with too much fuel if it has not started after 10 pulls.
Excess fuel can be removed on flooded engines by following the warning engine
starting procedure above.
Make sure the ON/STOP switch is in the "I" position. Starting may require pulling
the starter rope handle many times, depending on how flooded the unit is.
If the engine is flooded:
•Set the on/off switch to STOP.
•Unscrew the cover screw (1, Fig. 39).
•Remove the cover (2).
•Hook a suitable tool into the spark plug boot (3, Fig. 40).
•Remove the spark plug boot.
•Unscrew and dry the spark plug.
•Open the throttle fully.
•Pull the starter rope several times to clear the sawmill.
•Refit the spark plug and connect the spark plug boot, press it down firmly -
refit the other parts.
•Set the on/off switch to I, the home position.
•Place the choke lever in the OPEN position, even if the engine is cold.
•Now start the engine.

14

your body. When transporting in a vehicle, properly secure your tiller to
prevent tipping, fuel spills and damage.
•Before starting the engine, make sure the cutting attachment is not in
contact with any object.
•Keep handles dry, clean and free of oil or fuel mixture.
•Make sure you can move and stand safely. Check the area around you for
possible obstacles (roots, rocks, branches, ditches, etc.).
•Take special care and alertness when wearing hearing protection because
such equipment may restrict your ability to hear sounds that indicate danger
(calls, signals, warnings, etc.).
Warning:
Never lean over the cutting attachment guard. Stones, garbage, etc. can be
thrown. into the eyes causing blindness or serious injury. Stop the machine
immediately if anyone approaches.
If you find yourself in a situation where you are not sure how to proceed, you
should consult an expert. Contact your nearest Anova dealer. Avoid any use that
you feel is beyond your ability.
Warning:
Do not use the machine unless you can call for help in the event of an accident.
Neither the machine operator nor any other person may attempt to remove the cut
material while the engine is running or the cutting deck is rotating, as this may
result in serious injury.
Sometimes branches or grass get caught between the guard and the cutting
attachment. Always stop the engine before cleaning the machine.

If the spark arrestor screen is damaged, defective, or deteriorated, replace the
screen or the entire muffler assembly.
The spark arrestor system needs regular and precise maintenance and cleaning,
in particular:
•Periodically check the spark arrester screen and replace it when holes,
bends or deformation appear.
•Check carefully for dust, debris, or organic material in contact with parts of
the Spark Arrestor System; clean often with tools or shop air.
Warning:
Do not operate your tiller if the muffler is damaged, missing, or modified. An
improperly maintained muffler will increase the risk of fire and hearing loss.
7.2. Oil change
Change the engine oil every 6 months or after 50 hours of work. Drain the oil while
the engine is still warm to ensure quick and complete draining.
1. Check that the fuel filler cap (A, Fig.58) is tight.
2. Remove the oil filler cap and drain the oil into the oil pan by tilting the engine
towards the oil filter neck (B).
3. Fill with the recommended oil (see page 18) and check the oil level (C,
Fig.59).
4. Install the oil filter cover.
If oil is spilled, be sure to clean it up.
Wash your hands with soap and water after handling used oil.
Note: Dispose of used motor oil in a manner that is compatible with the environment.
We suggest that you take it in a sealed container to your local service station for recovery. Don't
throw it in the trash; pour it on the ground or down a drain.
