1 Description
Edition: 001 5 10000001258
1 Description
1.1 Purpose
The Digital Repeater Compass is designed to indicate the ship’s heading referred to
north, which has been ascertained by the gyro/magnetic compass (GPS/SAT compass for
development status E02 only).
1.2 Development Status
The Digital Repeater Compass exists in 2 development statuses, E01 and E02. Depending
on the development status, the configuration and operation of the unit might differ. The
differences are highlighted in this manual.
The development status of the Digital Repeater Compass is shown on the type plate,
which is placed on the side of the housing.

1 Description
10000001258 6 Edition: 001
1.4 Technical Description
The heading is read at a 7-segment LCD display (luminous numerals). The numerals are
recognizable from up to 10 m, even when viewed at different angles. The gyro heading is
shown in degrees and decimal degrees. The decimal digit is displayed smaller to prevent
erroneous reading. Heading changes are indicated by a tendency indicator. Depending
on the speed of the heading change, a ring consisting of bi-color LCDs indicate a turn to
starboard by green light and a turn to port by red light. The rate of turn in the LED ring is
proportional to the ship’s rate of turn.
Further characteristics of the Digital Repeater Compass:
• Recognition of a RS 422 interface according to National Marine Electronics Association
(NMEA) and therefore automatic changeover of the operation mode when heading
serial is detected
• Brightness control of all indication elements by pushbuttons
• Synchronisation unnecessary because of transmission of absolute values
• Equipment is ready for assembly in desks and steering stands or for mounting in
bulkhead, desk and ceiling with a bracket
• Connection for a central dimmer
• Connection for a pushbutton to execute the function Freeze to take bearings with a
bearing disc
