1 Introduction
RIO-2018BM is a thermocouple i put remote I/O module supports IBM Bluemix a d
Web i terface. RIO-2018BM has two models J a d K to support J a d K type
thermocouple. I additio to the thermocouple i put, RIO-2018BM also has two
isolated digital i put cha els a d o e form C relay output. Therefore, it is suitable for
temperature measureme t a d co trol. I additio to directly co ect to IBM Watso
IoT platform, data excha ge that ca be achieved by RESTful API for Web applicatio
access.

3 Pin Assignment and Definitions
3 1 Power Connector
Co ecti g 9~48VDC power li e to the Power i termi al block. If the power is
properly supplied, the Power LED will keep solid gree color a d a beep will be heard.
3 2 LED Status
The LED provides the RIO-2018BM operatio i formatio . The LED status is
described as followi g:
Power LED: Power LED keeps ON if power (+9VDC to +48VDC) is correct.
Ready LED: Ready LED keeps ON whe RIO-2018BM firmware is ready for
operatio .
LAN LED: Li k a d Activity LED will tur ON whe the Ether et cable is
co ected. Whe there is etwork data traffic, this LED will flash.
3 3 Thermocouple Input (T/C1 to T/C3)
The thermocouple i put is co ected to MAX31855 with Cold Ju ctio Compe sated
Thermocouple to Digital Co verter. The co ector is OMEGA PCC-SMP. Please
make sure the type of thermocouple matches the model of RIO-2018BM. Refer to
data sheet of MAX31855 for the tech ical specificatio of thermocouple
measureme t.

3 4 Relay Output Connector (DO_OUT, DO_COM)
The relay provides ormal ope output (NO) a d ormal close (NC) as show .
It ca switch voltage source up to 30VDC@1A or 125VAC@0.5A.
3 5 Digital Input Connector (DI1, DI2, DI_COM)
The two cha els isolated i put are equipped with 2500Vrms photo coupler isolator.
The two cha els form a group a d share the same commo grou d.
The specificatio of the isolated i put cha els are:

Logical Low: 0~1.5Vdc

4 Manager Utility Software
Ma ager Utility is a software provided by Artila that is used to co figure a d test
devices though etworki g. Please i stall “Ma ager Utility” o PC before start up
RIO-2018BM.
4 1 Download Manager Utility
You may visit Artila website: http://www.artila.com/, click “Dow load”
Select “RIO/RIO-2018BM” at Dow load page that shows the product series.

After completed I stallatio of Ma ager Utility, you may see a ico o PC.
Click it to execute Ma ager Utility. It shows the home page as followi g:

4 4 Broadcast Search
Start-up the Ma ager utility software a d click telescope ico to search the RIO
device i the etwork.
4 5 Configure the device
Double-click the RIO device at previous figure, it will go to “Co figure Device” page

5 1 Start to Use IBM Bluemix
5 1 1 Sin-Up IBM Bluemix
To use Watso IoT platform, you eed to register your device first. Please visit IBM
Bluemix website for registratio at https://co sole. g.bluemix. et/
Press “Sig Up” or “Create a free accou t” to sig up your IBMID a d create your
Bluemix accou t.
After co firm Accou t via email, the registratio has bee completed.
