AlthoughG Pro/GVProoffersCPUfrequencysteplesscontrol,itisnot
recommendedtoperformoverclocking.Frequenciesotherthantherecommended
CPUbusfrequencymaycausetheinstabilityofthesystemordamagetheCPU.
2. Installation
Pre-installationPrecautions
Takenoteofthefollowingprecautionsbeforeyouinstallmotherboardcomponentsorchangeany
motherboardsettings.
1.Unplugthepowercordfromthewallsocketbeforetouchinganycomponent.Failureto
dosomaycauseseveredamagetothemotherboard,peripherals,and/orcomponents.
2.Toavoiddamagingthemotherboardcomponentsduetostaticelectricity,NEVERplaceyour
motherboarddirectlyonthecarpetorthelike.Alsoremembertousea groundedwriststrapor
toucha safelygroundedobjectbeforeyouhandlecomponents.
3.HoldcomponentsbytheedgesanddonottouchtheICs.
4.Wheneveryouuninstallanycomponent,placeitona groundedantistaticpadorinthe
bagthatcomeswiththecomponent.
2.1CPUInstallation
Step1.Unlockthesocketbyliftingtheleveruptoа 90°to100°angle.
Step2.PositiontheCPUdirectlyabovethesocketsuchthatitsmarkedcorner
matchesthebaseofthesocketlever.
Step3.CarefullyinserttheCPUintothesocketuntilitfitsinplace.
TheCPUfitsonlyinonecorrectorientation.DONOTforcetheCPUintothesocket
toavoidbendingofthepins.
Step4.WhentheCPUisinplace,pressitfirmlyonthesocketwhileyoupush
downthesocketlevertosecuretheCPU.Theleverclicksonthesidetab
toindicatethatitislocked.
Step5.InstallCPUfanandheatsink.Forproperinstallation,pleasekindlyreferto
theinstructionmanualsofyourCPUfanandheatsinkvendors.
2.2InstallationofMemoryModules(DIMM)
SDRAM(SynchronousDRAM)DIMM(DualIn-lineMemoryModule)has168pinsand
DDR(DoubleDataRate)SDRAMDIMMhas184pins.The168-pinSDRAMDIMM

(black)and184-pinDDRDIMM(blue)canbeeasilydistinguishedbythefool-proof
design.
Pleasedonotinsertboth168-pinSDRAMDIMMand184-pinDDRDIMMatthesametime.
OnlyuseonesingletypeofDIMMsatonetime.Tooptimizethecompatibilityitisnot
recommendedtousetwodifferentmodelsoftheDIMMsatthesametime.
Installinga DIMM
Step1.Unlocka DIMMslotbypressingtheretainingclipsoutward.
Step2.Aligna DIMMontheslotsuchthatthenotchontheDIMMmatchesthe
breakontheslot.
Step3.FirmlyinserttheDIMMintotheslotuntiltheretainingclipsnapbackin
placeandtheDIMMisproperlyseated.
2.3ExpansionSlots(PCI,AMR,andAGPSlots)
Thereare3 PCIslotsand 1 AMRslotonbothG ProandGVPromotherboards.
Additionally,thereisoneAGPslotonG Pro.
PCIslots:PCIslotsareusedtoinstallexpansioncardsthathavethe32-bitPCI
interface.
AMRslot:AMRslotisusedtoinsertanASRockAMRcardwithv.92Modem
functionality.
AGPslot:TheAGPslotisusedtoinstalla graphicscard.TheASRockAGPslot
hasa speciallockingmechanismwhichcansecurelyfasten
thegraphicscardinserted.
Installinganexpansioncard
Step1.Beforeinstallingtheexpansioncard,readthedocumentationofthe
expansioncardandmakenecessaryhardwaresettingsforthecard.
Step2.Removethebracketfacingtheslotthatyouintendtouse.Keepthe
screwforlateruse.
Step3.Alignthecardconnectorwiththeslotandpressfirmlyuntilthecardis
completelyseatedontheslot.
Step4.Fastenthecardtothechassiswithscrews.
2.4JumpersSetup
Theillustrationshowshowjumpersare
setup.Whenthejumpercapisplacedon
pins,thejumperis"SHORT".Ifnojumper
capisplacedonthepins,thejumperis
"OPEN".Theillustrationshowsa 3-pinjumper
whosepin 1 andpin2are"SHORT"whenshortOpen
jumpercapisplacedonthese2 pins.

3. BIOS Information
TheFlashMemoryonthemotherboardstoresBIOSSetupUtility,Whenyoustartup
thecomputer,press<F2>duringthePower-On-Self-Test(POST)toenterBIOS
SetupUtility,otherwise,POSTcontinueswithitstestroutines.
IfyouwishtoenterBIOSSetupafterPOST,restartthesystembypressing<Ct!>+
<AIt>+ <Delete>,orbypressingtheresetbuttononthesystemchassis.Youcan
alsorestartbyturningthesystemoffandthenbackon.
TheBIOSSetupprogramisdesignedtobeuser-friendly.Itisa menu-drivenprogram,
whichmeansyoucanscrollthroughitsvarioussub-menusandmakeyour
selectionsamongthepredeterminedchoices.
4. Software Support CD information
ThismotherboardsupportsvariousWindowsoperatingsystems(98SE/ ME/ 2000
/XP).ThesupportCDthatcamewiththemotherboardcontainsnecessarydrivers
andusefulutilitiesthatenhancethemotherboardfeatures.
TobeginusingtheSupportCD,inserttheCDintoyourCD-ROMdrive.TheCD
automaticallydisplaystheMainMenuif"AUTORUN"isenabledinyourcomputer.
IftheMainMenudidnotappearautomatically,locateanddouble-clickonthefile
ASSETUP.EXEfromtheBINfolderintheSupportCDtodisplaythemenus.
Attention:
ToinstallSiSLanDriverforWin98SE,pleasefollowthe5 stepsbelow:
1.Pleaseright-click"MyComputer"desktopicontoselect"Properties",thenclick
"DeviceManager"tab.
2.In"DeviceManager"window,expend"OtherDevices"andclick"PCIEthernet
Controller",thenclick"ReinstallDriver"button.
3.In"UpdateDeviceDriver"window,select"Search"fora betterdriverthanthe
oneyourdeviceisusingnow(Recommended),thenclick"Next".
4.Uncheckalloptionsexcept"Specifya Location",thenclick"Browse"buttonto
locatethedriveron" \Drivers\Lan\Win98"inyourSupportCDandclick"OK".
Click"Next"andWindowswillrequireyoutoinserttheWindows98CD-ROM.
5.WhenWindowsfinishescopyingdrivers,click"Finish".Restartyourcomputer.
