2. Installation
Pre-iristallationPrecautions
Takenoteofthefollowingprecautionsbeforeyouinstallmotherboardcomponents
orchangeanymotherboardsettings.
1.Unplugthepowercordfromthewallsocketbeforetouchinganycomponent.
Failuretodosomaycauseseveredamagetothemotherboard,peripherals,
and/orcomponents.
2.Toavoiddamagingthemotherboardcomponentsduetostaticelectricity,NEVER
placeyourmotherboarddirectlyonthecarpetorthelike.Alsoremembertouse
agroundedwriststraportoucha safetygroundedobjectbeforeyouhandle
components.
3.HoldcomponentsbytheedgesanddonottouchtheICs
4.Wheneveryouuninstalianycomponent,placeitona groundedantistaticpador
inthebagthatcomeswiththecomponent.
2.1CPUInstallation
Step1.Unlockthesocketbyliftingtheleveruptoа 90°angle.
Step2.PositiontheCPUdirectlyabovethesocketsuchthatitsmarkedcorner
matchesthebaseofthesocketlever.
Stęp3 CarefullyinserttheCPUintothesocketuntilitfitsinplace.
TheCPUfitsonlyinonecorrectorientation.DONOTforcetheCPU
intothesockettoavoidbendingofthepins.
Step4.WhentheCPUisinplace,pressitfirmlyonthesocketwhileyoupush
downthesocketlevertosecuretheCPU.Theleverclicksonthesidetab
toindicatethatitislocked.
Step5.InstallCPUfanandheatsink.Forproperinstallation,pleasekindlyreferto
theinstructionmanualsofyourCPUfanandheatsinkvendors.

K7VM2motherboardprovidestwo184-pinDDR(DoubleDataRate)DIMMslots.
Installinga DIMM
Step1.Unlocka DIMMslotbypressingtheretainingclipsoutward.
Step2.Aligna DIMMontheslotsuchthatthenotchontheDIMMmatchesthe
breakontheslot.
Step3.FirmlyinserttheDIMMintotheslotuntiltheretainingclipsnapbackin
placeandtheDIMMisproperlyseated.
2.3ExpansionSlots(PCI,AMR,andAGPSlots)
Thereare2 PCIslots,1 AMRslot,and1 AGPslotonK7VM2motherboard.
PCIslots:PCIslotsareusedtoinstallexpansioncardsthathavethe32-bitPCI
interface.
AMRslot:AMRslotisusedtoinsertAMRmodemcardwithv.92 Modem
functionality.
AGPslot:TheAGPslotisusedtoinstalla graphicscard.
TheASRockAGPslothasa speciallockingmechanismwhich
cansecurelyfastenthegraphicscardinserted.
Installinganexpansioncard
Step1.Beforeinstallingtheexpansioncard,readthedocumentationofthe
expansioncardandmakenecessaryhardwaresettingsforthecard.
Step2.Removethebracketfacingtheslotthatyouintendtouse.Keepthescrews
forlateruse.
Step3.Alignthecardconnectorwiththeslotandpressfirmlyuntilthecardis
completelyseatedontheslot.
Step4.Fastenthecardtothechassiswithscrews.
