Safety information
This symbol of the crossed out wheeled bin indicates that the product (electrical
and electronic equipment) should not be placed in municipal waste.
Please check local regulations for disposal of electronic products.
• Before setting up the monitor, carefully read all the documentation that came
with the package.
• To prevent re or shock hazard, never expose the monitor to rain or moisture.
• Never try to open the monitor cabinet. The dangerous high voltages inside the
monitor may result in serious physical injury.
• If the power supply is broken, do not try to x it by yourself. Contact a qualied
service technician or your retailer.
• Before using the product, make sure all cables are correctly connected and the
power cables are not damaged. If you detect any damage, contact your dealer
immediately.
• Slots and openings on the back or top of the cabinet are provided for
ventilation. Do not block these slots. Never place this product near or over a
radiator or heat source unless proper ventilation is provided.
• The monitor should be operated only from the type of power source indicated
on the label. If you are not sure of the type of power supply to your home,
consult your dealer or local power company.
• Use the appropriate power plug which complies with your local power
standard.
• Do not overload power strips and extention cords. Overloading can result in
re or electric shock.
• Avoid dust, humidity, and temperature extremes. Do not place the monitor in
any area where it may become wet. Place the monitor on a stable surface.
• Unplug the unit during a lightning storm or if it will not be used for a long period
of time. This will protect the monitor from damage due to power surges.
• Never push objects or spill liquid of any kind into the slots on the monitor
cabinet.
• To ensure satisfactory operation, use the monitor only with UL listed
computers which have appropriate congured receptacles marked between
100-240V AC.
• If you encounter technical problems with the monitor, contact a qualied
service technician or your retailer.

Care & Cleaning
• Before you lift or reposition your monitor, it is better to disconnect the cables
and power cord. Follow the correct lifting techniques when positioning the
monitor. When lifting or carrying the monitor, grasp the edges of the monitor.
Do not lift the display by the stand or the cord.
• Cleaning. Turn your monitor off and unplug the power cord. Clean the monitor
surface with a lint-free, non-abrasive cloth. Stubborn stains may be removed
with a cloth dampened with mild cleaner.
• Avoid using a cleaner containing alcohol or acetone. Use a cleaner intended
for use with the LCD. Never spray cleaner directly on the screen, as it may drip
inside the monitor and cause an electric shock.
The following symptoms are normal with the monitor:
• The screen may icker during the initial use due to the nature of the uorescent
light. Turn off the Power Switch and turn it on again to make sure that the
icker disappears.
• You may nd slightly uneven brightness on the screen depending on the
desktop pattern you use.
• When the same image is displayed for hours, an afterimage of the previous
screen may remain after switching the image. The screen will recover slowly or
you can turn off the Power Switch for hours.
• When the screen becomes black or ashes, or cannot work anymore, contact
your dealer or service center to x it. Do not repair the screen by yourself!

1.1 Welcome!
Thank you for purchasing the ASUS® PG221 LCD monitor!
The LCD monitor features high-quality audio technology, including a 15W ASUS
Power Bass System and the most advanced SRS TruSurround XT™ sound effect
which help provide vivid melody, enhancing your audio enjoyment while you watch
movies, play games, or listen to music! The widescreen design provides a crisper,
broader, and brighter display. The built-in 1.3 megapixel webcam on top of the LCD
panel has both video recording and snapshot functions, allowing you to capture
images, create videos, or hold a video conference! Besides, a host of user-friendly
funcitons such as the rotating swivel, adjustable tilt, and smart touch sensor
buttons facilitate the usage of the monitor, upgrading your work efciency.

1.3 Monitor introduction
Front view
The touch sensors are sensitive. Slightly touch the item you want to enable.
Do not press the front panel too hard to prevent damage to the panel and the
sensors.
1. Sensor:
• Use this hotkey to switch to any of the ve video preset modes
(Standard Mode, Theater Mode, Game Mode, Night View Mode,
Scenery Mode) with SPLENDID™ Video Intelligence Technology.
• Exit the OSD menu or go back to the previous menu as the OSD menu
is active.
• Automatically adjust the image to its optimized position, clock and phase
by touching the sensor for 2-3 seconds.
2. Sensor:
• Touch this sensor to adjust the True Bass funciton. This function is
adjustable only when the SRS TSXT function is activated.
3. Sensor:
• Touch this sensor to activate the OSD (On-Screen Display) main menu.
• Touch this sensor to enter/select the item (function) highlighted while the
OSD menu is activated.

4. Sensor:
• Use this hotkey to switch to any of the six input sources (VGA, DVI,
Video, S-Video, YPbPr, Music).

• Use this hotkey to switch to any of the ve sound preset modes
(Standard Mode, Fighting Game Mode, Strategic Game Mode, Theater
Mode, Music Mode).
6. Sensor:
• Touch this sensor to decrease the value of the function selected or move
to the previous function.
• This is also a hotkey for Light-in-Motion adjustment.
7. (Scroll-Bar) Sensor:

8. Sensor:
• Touch this sensor to increase the value of the function selected or move
to the next function.
• This is also a hotkey for Brightness adjustment.

• Touch this sensor to turn the monitor on/off.

1 SRS On/Off button. Press this button to turn on/off the SRS sound effect.
2. USB 2.0 ports. These three Universal Serial Bus (USB) ports are available for
connecting USB 2.0 devices.
3. Microphone port. This port connects a microphone with a stereo mini-plug
(3.5mm).
4. Headphone port. This port connects a headphone with a stereo mini-plug
(3.5 mm).
The headphone and the microphone are purchased separately.

2.1 Connecting the cables
Connect the cables as shown:
• To connect the signal cables: connect one end of the signal cables to
the monitor, the other end to your computer or any other video
equipment. Refer to section 2.1.1-2.1.5 for details.
• To connect the woofer cable: connect the woofer cable to the monitor’s
woofer port.
• To connect the power cord: connect one end of the power cord
securely to the monitor’s AC input port, the other end to a power outlet.
• To close the rear connector cover: Align the cover to the six slots near
the ports and close the cover carefully. A click indicates that the cover
has been closed successfully.
The supplied VGA-audio-microphone-USB 4-in-1 cable combines the
VGA cable, audio cable, microphone cable, and USB cable.

2.1.1 Connecting to a computer with VGA/DVI ports:
1. Connect one end (VGA/audio(gray)/microphone(red)/USB connectors)
of the supplied 4-in-1 cable to the LCD monitor’s corresponding ports
(VGA/Line-in(gray)/microphone-out(red)/USB ports).
2. Connect the other end of the supplied 4-in-1 cable to your computer’s
corresponding ports (VGA/Line-out(green)/microphone-in(red)ports).
3. Connect one end of the supplied DVI cable to the LCD monitor, then
connect the other end to your computer’s DVI port.
When both the VGA and the DVI cables are connected, you can choose either
VGA mode or DVI mode from the Input Select item of the OSD functions, or by
using the hotkey on the front panel. See pages 1-3 and 3-2 for details.
2.1.3 Connecting to a video equipment with video
(composite) output ports:
1. Connect one end of the supplied RCA cable to the video and L/R audio
ports (the ports in item 5on page 1-5) of the LCD monitor, then
connect the other end to the video and L/R audio ports of your video
equipment.
2.1.4 Connecting to a video equipment with S-Video
(composite) output ports:
1. Connect one end of the S-Video cable to the LCD monitor’s S-Video port,
then connect the other end to the S-Video port of your video equipment.
2. Plug the red and white connectors of the supplied RCA cable or an L/R
audio cable to the LCD monitor’s L/R audio ports (the ports in item 5
on page 1-5), then connect the other end to the L/R audio ports of your
video equipment.
2.1.2 Connecting to a video equipment with YPbPr
(component) output ports:
1. Connect one end of the YPbPr cable to the YPbPr ports of the LCD
monitor, then connect the other end to the YPbPr output ports of your
video equipment.
2. Plug the red and white connectors of the supplied RCA cable or an L/R
audio cable to the LCD monitor’s L/R audio ports (the ports in item 4
on page 1-5), then connect the other end to the L/R audio ports of your
video equipment.
Before you connect the cables, ensure that your PC is switched off or the power
cord is unpluged from the wall socket.

2.3 Adjusting the tilt
This monitor can be adjusted within the angles as shown:
We recommend that you adjust the viewing angle of the monitor based on the
height of your desk and chair to prevent the light from reecting to your eyes.
1. Grasp the top of the monitor and adjust the tilt within -5º to 20º.
2. The swivel base allows you to turn the monitor left/right up to 120º.
2.2 Turning on the monitor
Gently touch the power sensor . See page 1-2 for the location of the power
sensor. The power indicator lights up in blue to show that the monitor is ON.

2.1.5 Connecting to an MP3 player or any other audio
device with Line-out/Headphone ports:
• Connect one end of an audio cable to the Line-in port of the LCD monitor,
then connect the other end to the Line-out/headphone port of
your MP3 player or an audio device.
The YPbPr, S-Video, and L/R audio cables are purchased separately.
