1.0 Introduction
ATC-2000WFSeries of wireless serial deviceservers give you an easywayto connect
your RS-232/422/485 serial devices toaWLAN.The 1-portATC-2000WFand 2-port
ATC-2002WFare idealfor environments whereaLAN isnot available, or where serial
devices aremovedfrequently.
1.1 Overview
The RS232 connection application has been used for along time.RS232 cable has
limitations indistance. WLAN (Wireless Local AreaNetwork) hasbecome a worldwide
standardprotocol forwireless applications.Therearemanyapplications for using RS232
connectionover WLAN, including POS, data capture, telemetry,PLC controllers, remote
control, vending machine, industrial control, and others. The device that supports
connectionover WLAN iscalledas Wireless to SerialServer. Throughout theguide, the
802.11g Wirelessto SerialServer willbe referred as the“Server”.
ATC-2000WFwirelessserialdevice servers support automatic IP configuration protocols
(DHCP, BOOTP) and manualconfiguration via a handyweb browser console. Both IP
configuration methods ensure quickandeffectiveinstallation, An external antenna
increases therangeofthe wireless connection.Users can position the adjustable antenna
for maximumsignalstrength or even replacetheantenna with their own foradditional
flexibilityand scalability. This featureis particularlyusefulwhenaserialdevice is
connected in a high interference area.As an addedfeature, a signal strengthindicatoris
located on the front panel to make it easierto troubleshootconnection Problems.
ATC-2000WFwirelessserialdevice servers ensure the compatibilityofnetworksoftware
that uses a standard network APIbyproviding TCP Server Mode,TCP Client Mode, and
UDPMode. TheRealCOM/TTY drivers allowsoftwarethatworks with COM/TTY ports to
beset up toworkover a TCP/IP networkinno time.Thisexcellent feature preserves your
software investment andlets youenjoythe benefits of networking yourserialdevices
instantly.
Tomakeyour management taskeasier, the ATC-2000WFprovides additional features,
such as passwordauthentication,IPfilter,WEP support for 64-bit and 128-bit encryption,
and SNMP support.

1.6 Connectingthe Hardware
Thissection describes how to connect ATC-2000WFto serial devicesfor first time testing
purposes. We cover WiringRequirements,ConnectingthePower, Connecting tothe
Network,
You should also payattention to the following items:
Use separate pathstoroute wiring forpower and devices.Ifpower wiringand device wiring
paths must cross, make sure thewires are perpendicular at theintersection point.
Connecting thePower
Connect the 9-36VDC power linewithATC-2000power jack. When the poweris
properlysupplied, the .Linkand DIS. LED willlightin red and yellowcoloruntil the system
is ready,at which time the .Link. LED willbe put outand DIS PWRLED stilllight.
Connecting to a SerialDevice
Connect the serial data cablebetweenATC-2000WFand the serialdevice.
