Power Gen Generator.
This manual covers the safety, operation and
maintenance procedures for the ATP5000XE
and ATP6500XE.
All information in this publication is based on
the latest product information available at the
time of print. No part of this publication may be
reproduced without written permission.
Please keep this manual together with
the generator.
This generator is designed to give safe and
dependable service if operated according to the
user manual.
It is important that anyone operating this product
read and understand the manual prior to use.
Failure to do so could result in personal injury or
equipment damage.
SAFETY PRECAUTIONS
OPERATION SAFETY
• Always perform a pre-operation check before
starting the engine.
• Properly clean and maintain the generator.
• Operate the generator according to instructions
for safe and dependable service.
• Before operating the generator, read the user
manual carefully. Otherwise, it may result in
personal injuries or equipment damage.
Never run the generator indoors or in an
enclosed area to avoid harm or possible death
from exhaust emissions of poisonous carbon
monoxide gas.
• Be careful not to touch the exhaust system
during operation because it can cause burns.
• Pay attention to the warning labels because
the engine exhaust system will become
heated during operation and remain hot
immediately after the engine is stopped.
• Unleaded petrol is a highly flammable and
explosive liquid. Refuel in a well ventilated
area with the engine stopped.
• When refuelling the generator, keep it
away from cigarettes, open flames,
smoke and/or sparks.
• It is recommended that this generator not
be connected for stand-by power to any
household or building electrical circuit.
Improper connections can allow electrical
current from the generator to feed back into
the utility lines and may electrocute persons
contacting the lines during a power outage.
When the utility power is restored, the
generator may explode or cause fires.
• Do not connect the generator to an ATS
automatic transfer switch.
• Place the generator at least 1 metre
away from buildings or other equipment
during operation.
• Run the generator on a level surface. If the
generator tilts, fuel spillage may result.
• Know how to stop the generator quickly and
understand the operation of all the controls.
Never permit anyone to operate the generator
without proper instructions.

• Keep children and pets away from the
generator during operation.
• Do not operate the generator in rain,
wet conditions or snow.
• Do not allow any moisture to come in contact
with the generator.
• Do not touch the spark plug while the
generator is operating or shortly
after the generator has been shut down.
SAFETY GUIDELINES
Before connecting any appliances to
the generator:
• Make sure the appliance is turned off.
Faulty appliances or damaged power
cords can lead to an electrical shock.
• Turn off the generator immediately
if the appliance begins to operate
abnormally. Disconnect the appliance
and investigate the problem.
• Make sure that the electrical rating of the
appliance does not exceed that of the
generator. If the power level of the appliance
is between the maximum output power
and the rated power of the generator, the
generator should not be used for more than
30 minutes.
• Do not connect the AC outlets of the
generator to any household or building
circuits. Improper connections may lead to
a fire hazard or damage to the generator.
MAINTENANCE SAFETY
• Do not clean the air filter element with
flammable liquids like petrol because
an explosion may occur.
• Turn off the generator before performing any
maintenance. Otherwise it can cause severe
personal injury or death.
• Allow the generator to cool down before
performing any maintenance.
• Do not clean the generator with a pressure
washer because it may cause damage.
• Before working with batteries, ventilate
the area, wear safety glasses. Do not smoke
and always disconnect the negative cable
first and reconnect it last.
• Always stop the generator set before
removing the oil filler dip stick.
• Only qualified maintenance personnel
with knowledge of fuels, electricity,
and machinery hazards should perform
maintenance procedures.
WARRANTY STATEMENT
Primus Australia warrants this product against
defects for 12 months/500 hours (whatever
period expires first), commencing from the date
of purchase and is for the original owner only
and cannot be transferred.
For all warranty service and repairs
contact 1300 555 197 toll free.
Proof-of-purchase or a sales receipt clearly
showing the date and details of the purchase is
required for all warranty service or repair.
Primus Australia will repair or replace the
product, at its discretion, should a warrantable
defect arise within the warranty period. If the
exact model is unavailable a model of equivalent
value or features will be substituted at our
discretion. This warranty excludes faults and
failures caused by improper use and abuse; fair
wear and tear; or failure to follow instructions
regarding care and maintenance.
It is at the discretion of Primus Australia if a
warranty or replacement will be issued once the
product has been inspected by an authorised
repair agent and deemed to be a genuine
warranty.
Primus Australia will not be liable for any costs,
charges or expenses incurred in the process of
having the product returned to the place of purchase
in order to request a warranty unless agreed to in
writing prior to the product being returned.

excluded under the Australian Consumer Law.
You are entitled to a replacement or refund for
a major failure and for compensation for any

quality and the failure does not amount to a
major failure.

PRE-OPERATION INSPECTION
Exhaust gas contains poisonous carbon
monoxide. Do not run the generator in an
enclosed area. Be sure to provide adequate
ventilation. Operate the generator on a level
surface. If the generator is tilted, fuel spillage
may result in fire.
The generator is air-cooled and may be
damaged if ventilation is inadequate.
Inspect the engine oil before use. Engine oil
is a major factor affecting the performance
and service life of this product.
Non-detergent, 2 stroke engine oil or
vegetable oils are not recommended.
CHECKING OIL LEVEL
• Remove the oil filler dipstick and clean.
• Check the oil level by reinserting the oil
filler dipstick. Remove and examine the oil
level. If the level is at or below the lower
level mark, refill the oil to the upper limit
mark. Use 10W30 or 15W40 oil for all three
generator models covered in this manual.
• Reinsert the oil filler dipstick and
tighten securely.
Running the engine with insufficient oil
can cause serious damage to the engine
and other important components.
When the oil level is low, the Low Oil Light
on the control panel will illuminate and the
engine will automatically shut down. Do not
restart the generator until the oil level has
been adjusted.
CHECKING FUEL LEVEL
• Use only clean, fresh unleaded petrol.
Do not use E10 (Ethanol) fuel.
• Check the fuel level by reading the
gauge or removing the fuel tank cap
to visually inspect.
• Add fuel if level is too low. Do not refuel
while generator is running. Tighten the
cap securely after filling.

Petrol is highly flammable and explosive
under certain conditions. Refuel in a well-
ventilated area with the engine stopped. Do
not smoke or allow open flames or sparks
in the area where the generator is refuelled
or where petrol is stored. Do not overfill
the tank. Be careful not to spill fuel when
refuelling. Wipe up any spilled petrol and
let the area dry before starting the engine.
Do not use an oil/petrol mixture, dirty or
contaminated petrol.
Keep out of the reach of children.
Fuel system damage or engine performance
problems resulting from the use of fuel other
than clean, fresh unleaded petrol are not
covered under warranty.
CHECKING AIR FILTER
1. Unscrew knob and remove the Air Filter
cover. Remove the Air Filter foam element
and inspect for cleanliness.
2. Clean the Air Filter element with a
non-flammable solvent. Squeeze dry
and soak in clean engine oil.
3. Squeeze out excess oil and reinstall. Replace
the element if it is torn or damaged.
DIGITAL METER
When the generator is operating the digital
meter will show the following readings:
Press button on front of screen to show VOLTS.
Press button again to show Frequency HZ.
Press button again to show the current run
time HOURS.
Press button again to show the total
accumulated run time HOURS.
Note: It is recommended to use the total
accumulated run time HOURS as a guide for
the Maintenance & Service schedule – refer
page 9.
DC12V BATTERY CHARGE SOCKET/TERMINALS
The DC12V battery charge socket/terminals
can be used with the battery leads (supplied)
to charge 12 volt automotive batteries only.
There is a DC12V reset button protecting the
socket/terminals. If an overload is detected,
the reset button will pull out to the OFF
position. To reset, push in the button to the
ON position.
Note: The DC12V battery charge socket/
terminals can be used while the AC power is
in use.
DC12V SOCKET
The DC12V socket can be used to power
12 volt appliances with the corresponding
cigarette lighter type plug only.
There is a DC12V reset button protecting this
socket. If an overload is detected, the reset
button will pull out to the OFF position. To
reset, push in the button to the ON position.
Note: The DC12V appliance socket can be used
while the AC power is in use.
OPERATION
Do not connect the generator to a household
or any building electrical circuit. This could
cause an overload and seriously damage the
generator. Do not exceed the current limit
specified for any one AC socket. Be sure that
appliances do not exceed the generator’s rated
power for more than 30 minutes and that they
never exceed the maximum power output
of the generator. Substantial overloading
will switch off the circuit breaker. Marginal
overloading may not switch off the circuit
breaker, but it will shorten the service life
of the generator. Be sure that all appliances
are in good working order before connecting
them to the generator. If an appliance begins
to operate abnormally, becomes sluggish, or
stops suddenly, turn off the circuit breaker
and the generator engine switch immediately.
Then disconnect the appliance and examine it
for signs of malfunction.

1. Attach each handle bar (13) and bracket (12)
to the upper frame of the generator. Tighten
the bolts (14) and nylon lock nuts (15) to the
upper frame of the generator. Slip on hand
grip (2).
2. Attach the two stands (11) to the bottom
of the frame of the generator. Tighten
the two bolts (6) and two nuts (7) to the
lower frame of the generator. Position the
anti-sink plate (16) onto the bottom of
stands, then fit the rubber cushions (1) and
securely fasten using bolts (3).
3. Place the two wheels (5) on the wheel axle
(4) and then secure the wheels using the
washer (8) and split pin (9).
4. Attach the wheel axle (4) to the bottom of
the generator frame at the opposite end of
the handles using axle holder (10). Align
the bolts (6) with the holes on the bottom
of the generator and fasten tightly with the
nuts (7) provided.
5. Mount the hoist lift bracket assembly (17)
to the top of the generator frame.
Caution: Ensure hoist lift bracket assembly is
tightened securely when lifting and located
centrally on frame to distribute weight evenly
during lift.

STARTING THE GENERATOR
To prevent electrical shock, the generator
should be properly grounded before starting
and prior to connecting any appliances.
Connect a length of heavy wire or cable
between the ground source and the ground
terminal on the front control panel.
1. Connect the positive terminal cable (red)
to the positive terminal on the battery.
Repeat procedure for the negative cable
(black) and negative terminal. Ensure the
connections are fastened securely.
2. Ensure that no appliances are connected to
the generator prior to starting the engine.
3. Switch OFF the Master Circuit Breaker.
4. Turn the fuel tap to the ON position
(vertical).
5. If the engine is cold pill out the choke lever.
6. Insert ignition key and turn clockwise to the
start position, release when engine starts.
7. After the engine has warmed up, push the
Choke Lever to the run position.
Do not use the choke if the engine is warm. Do
not reverse the polarity of the terminals when
charging a battery as serious damage to the
battery may result.
USING THE GENERATOR
1. Turn off the desired appliance prior to
connecting to the generator.
2. Ensure that the master circuit breaker is
switched OFF.
3. Start the generator.
4. Connect appliances by lifting the clear front
cover of the AC sockets.
5. Turn the Master Circuit breaker to the ON
position. The red indicator light on the RCD/
MCB housing panel will now illuminate.
6. Lift up the clear front cover on the panel
and push the switch up on the RCD/MCB to
the ON position. The ON position is shown
as a red indicator box above the switch.
Power is now supplied to the AC socket and
the appliance can be used.
Note: It is recommended to test the operation
of each RCD/MCB daily.
TEST PROCEDURE
1. To test the RCD/MCB, start the generator
and switch ON the master circuit breaker.
2. Push the switch up on the RCD/MCB to the
ON position.
3. The ON position is shown as a red indicator
box above the switch.
4. Press the ‘test’ button (T) on the RCD/
MCB. If the device is operating correctly,
the switch will automatically ‘trip’ to the
OFF position. The OFF position is shown as a
green indicator box above the switch.
In case of emergency, the generator can be
quickly turned off using the Key Ignition on
the left side of the panel.
MAINTAINING OPTIMAL PERFORMANCE
• Properly ground the generator prior
to starting.
• Do not overload the generator by connecting
multiple heavy-load appliances. The combined
load of all appliances should not exceed the
rated running output power of the generator.
• Do not use power bars or outlet splitters.
STOPPING THE GENERATOR
1. Turn off all connected appliances
(do not unplug).
2. Allow the generator to run for up to two
minutes to cool down.
3. Turn the ignition key to the off position.
4. Unplug the appliances.
5. Turn the Fuel Tap to the OFF position
(horizontal).

MAINTENANCE & SERVICE
Proper maintenance ensures that your
generator will continue to operate safely
and efficiently. Improper maintenance may
cause the generator to malfunction and can
lead to damage to connected appliances or to
generator components.
Shut off the engine before performing
any maintenance. Allow engine to cool
down completely before performing any
maintenance tasks. Maintenance should be
performed in a well-ventilated area.
It is recommended that some of the
maintenance procedures outlined in this
section should be performed by an authorised
dealer or qualified technician.
In order to maintain good performance
and extend the life of this generator,
periodic inspection and adjustments should
be performed based on the following
maintenance schedule.
GENERAL MAINTENANCE
• Check for leaks around the fuel tank,
fuel hose, fuel tap and carburettor.
• Check for exhaust leaks while the engine
is running. Leaks should be repaired before
continuing operation of the generator.
• Check the engine oil level daily
- add oil as necessary.

AIR FILTER SERVICE
Do not use petrol or low flash point solvents
for cleaning. They are flammable and can be
explosive under certain conditions.
1. Rotate the knob counter clockwise
to release.
2. Lift the Air Filter Cover to remove
from the air filter housing.
3. Remove the foam Air Filter Element.
4. If the filter is dirty, clean in a non-
flammable solvent or warm soapy water,
rinse and allow it to dry before proceeding.
5. Place the dry filter element in clean engine
oil, squeeze out excess and place back into
filter housing. If too much oil remains on
the filter element, the engine will smoke.
6. Wipe dirt and debris from the air filter
housing and cover with a damp cloth.
FUEL TAP SEDIMENT BOWL SERVICE
1. Rotate the fuel tap to OFF.
2. Remove sediment bowl and O-Ring.
3. Wash cup with a non-flammable solvent.
4. Allow cup to dry before reassembling.
5. Rotate fuel tap to ON and check for leaks.
After installing the sediment bowl, tighten
the O-Ring securely. Check for fuel leaks and
remove any spilled fuel prior to starting.
CHANGING ENGINE OIL
1. Place the generator on a flat and
level surface.
2. Start the engine and run for approximately
3 minutes (until warm).
3. Stop the engine.
4. Place oil pan or other container underneath
the generator.
5. Using a spanner, remove the drain bolt
and sealing washer.
6. Slowly unscrew and remove the oil
filler dipstick.
7. Allow oil to completely drain into pan.
8. Using a dry cloth, wipe around the oil filler
opening and the drain plug. Remove any
debris and excess oil.
9. Reinstall sealing washer and drain
plug bolt.
10. Pour new engine oil through the oil filler
hole (use a funnel to avoid spills).
11. Check oil using dipstick, and confirm that
it is at the required level.
12. Reinstall Oil Filler Dipstick.

SPARK PLUG SERVICE
1. Remove the spark plug cap.
2. Clean dirt and debris around the spark
plug base.
3. Carefully remove the spark plug using
the supplied wrench.
4. Visually inspect the spark plug. If the
insulator is cracked or the base is chipped,
discard the spark plug and replace
immediately. If no damage is present,
clean the body of the plug.
5. Measure the plug cap with a feeler gauge.
The gap should
be between
0.7 and 0.8mm
(0.028 to 0.31”).
Adjust gap by
carefully bending
the side electrode.
6. Re-install the spark plug and spark plug cap.
Make sure the spark plug is tightened
securely. An improperly installed spark plug
can damage the generator.
SPARK ARRESTOR SERVICE
Allow the muffler to cool before spark
arrestor maintenance.
1. Unscrew muffler end cover bolts and
remove muffler cover.
2. Remove retaining screw from spark
arrestor and remove from muffler.
3. Use a wire brush to remove carbon deposits
from spark arrestor screen. Inspect the
screen for holes and replace if necessary.
4. Re-install the spark arrestor.
HANDLING AND STORAGE
When transporting the generator, make
sure to shut off the fuel tap and keep the
generator level. For the ATP6500XE generator,
remove the battery and store in a dry place.
Recharge once a month. Do not store the
battery in excessively warm or cold places.
HANDLING
1. Turn off the engine switch and fuel tap.
2. Keep the generator level to avoid
fuel spillage.
STORAGE (FOR EXTENDED PERIODS OF TIME)
1. Ensure that the storage area is free of
excess humidity and dust.
2. Drain the fuel tank and carburettor.
DRAINING FUEL TANK
1. Turn engine switch OFF.
2. Remove the fuel tank cap and filter
screen under the cap.
3. Empty the tank into an approved petrol
container using a funnel or syphon to
avoid spillage.
DRAINING THE CARBURETTOR
1. Turn engine switch to OFF.
2. Turn the fuel tap to ON.
3. Place a suitable container under the
carburettor drain screw. Slowly loosen
the screw.
4. Allow fuel to drain completely
into container.
5. Tighten drain screw.

TROUBLESHOOTING
Common issues can be fixed by following the
instructions in this guide. If the generator will
not operate normally after following these
instructions, contact an authorised dealer or
qualified technician before attempting to use
or carry out any repairs.
Many troubleshooting procedures present
hazards which can result in severe personal
injury or death. Only trained and experienced
service personnel with knowledge of fuels,
electricity, and machinery hazards should
perform service procedures. Review Safety
Precautions. A hot generator can cause severe
burns. Always allow the generator to cool
before performing any maintenance service.
