Sound levels

Any maintenance procedure must be performed by a CONTEST
authorised technical service. Basic cleaning operations must tho-
roughly follow our safety instructions.
This product contains non-isolated electrical components. Do not
undertake any maintenance operation when it is switched on as
it may result in electric shock.
This unit is intended for indoor use only. Do not use it in a wet,
or extremely cold/hot locations. Failure to follow these safety ins-
tructions could result in fire, electric shock, injury, or damage to
this product or other property.
WARNING : This unit contains no user-serviceable parts. Do not open the
housing or attempt any maintenance by yourself. In the unlikely even your unit
may require service, please contact your nearest dealer.
In order to avoid any electrical malfunction, please do not use any multi-socket,

operated in a closed non-ventilated area such as a flight case
or a rack, unless cooling vents are provided for the purpose .
9 - Heat exposure :
Sustained contact or proximity with warm surfaces may cause
overheating and product damages. Please keep this product
away from any heat source such as a heaters, amplifiers, hot
plates, etc...
10 - Electric power supply :
This product can only be operated according to
a very specific voltage. These information are
specified on the label located at the rear of the
product.
11 - Power cords protection:
Power-supply cords should be routed so that they
are not likely to be walked on or pinched by items
placed upon or against them, paying particular
attention to cords at lugs, convenience receptacles
and the point where they exit from the fixture.

12 - Cleaning precautions :
Unplug the product before attempting any cleaning
operation. This product should be cleaned only with
accessories recommended by the manufacturer.
Use a damp cloth to clean the surface. Do not
wash this product.
13 - Long periods of non use :
Disconnect the unit’s main power during long periods of
non use.
14 - Liquids or objects penetration :
Do not let any object penetrate this product as it
may result in electric shock or fire.
Never spill any liquid on this product as it may
infiltrate the electronic components and result in
electric shock or fire.
15 - This product should be serviced when :
Please contact the qualified service personnel if :
- The power cord or the plug has been damaged.
- Objects have fallen or liquid has been spilled into
the appliance.
- The appliance has been exposed to rain or water.
- The product does not appear to operate normally.

2 - Introduction
Thank you for purchasing the SUBMIX.
You are now in possession of a high-quality device, which, we are convinced, will bring you satisfaction.
The SUBMIX is a 6-channel mixer with adjustable active filter and USB full duplex port.
The USB port allows you to play and record audio files. This device will be detected by your computer (PC
or MAC) as sound card, without requiring extra drivers.
Moreover, the SUBMIX features a SUB output with adjustable filter (frequency and level).
The guide you are currently reading will help you getting familiar with the many functions and possibilities
offered by the SUBMIX.

3 - Description and installation
The SUBMIX is a mixer with adjustable active filter and USB full duplex port.
The USB port allows you to play and record audio files.
The active filter allows you to configure a subwoofer output.

• This device will be detected by your computer (PC or MAC) as sound card, without requiring extra drivers.

3.1 - Description
3.2 - Installation
Your SUBMIX was designed to be operated horizontally when not mounted into brackets. Please make sure
your SUBMIX does not vibrate, or is not
being acted upon by an outside force to prevent any fall.
In order to use your console on uneven surfaces, please use the mounting brackets provided for the
purpose.
Please use fixations adapted to your support, making sure you always respect the safety precautions
and local safety regulations.

4.1 - Front panel

1 - LEVEL Button:
Allows you to adjust MIC1 volume.
2 - Equalization control knobs:
Each microphone channel features a 3-band equalization. These knobs allow you to increase/decrease
basses (LOW), mid frequencies (MID) and trebles (HIGH) of the output signal of each microphone.
- HIGH (High Frequency control): Allows you to adjust trebles of the corresponding channel within a -12 dB
to +12 dB range at 10kHz. Turn it clockwise to increase trebles, while turning it counterclockwise decreases
them.
- MID (Mid/high Frequency control): Allows you to adjust mid frequencies of the corresponding channel
within a -12 dB to +12 dB range at 10kHz. Turn it clockwise to increase trebles, while turning it counterclockwise
decreases them.
- LOW (low frequency control): Allows you to adjust basses of the corresponding channel within a -12 dB
to +12 dB range at 10kHz. Turn it clockwise to increase trebles, while turning it counterclockwise decreases
them.
3 - MIC and TALKOVER selector:
Allows you to activate MIC and MIC 2 as well as the TALKOVER function. The latter allows you to dim the
current music output for microphones to be more audible.
This selector features 3 positions:
OFF: MIC 1 & 2 are deactivated
ON: MIC 1 & 2 are activated
TALKOVER: the talkover dims all other channels by 14 dB.
4 - CUE Button:
Allows you to send the signal of the selected channel towards the monitoring area for your headphones, and
visualise it via the VU meter.
5 -Crossfader assignation:
This selector allows you to assign each side of the crossfader to a channel.
6 - XSTART Switch:
This function allows you to use the crossfader to start/play two compatible sources according to the position
of your crossfader. The Xstart function activates upon connection of compatible turntables via the rear panel
mini Jack socket.

7 - Crossfader:
Allows you to combines several channel outputs. When on the left (A), only channel A signal can be heard.
When on the right (B), only channel B can be heard. The middle position indicates both channels are equally
audible.
8 - CUE mixing control knob:
Allows you to monitor the channel selected via the CUE button and PGM level via your headphones, choosing
which one is more audible.
9 - Headphones volume control knob:
Allows you to adjust the headphones sound level. Turn it clockwise it increase the volume.
Please make sure this knob is fully on the left before connecting your headphones.
10 - SPLIT CUE button:
Allows you to select the source sent to the headphones output.
In normal mode, the headphones will receive the CUE and Master signals, which can be adjusted via the CUE
mixing control knob.
In CUE SPLIT mode, the CUE signal will be sent as mono signal to the left, while the master signal will be
sent to the right.
This function also assign the VU meter in the same way.
11 - Headphones output (PHONES):
Stereo Jack 6.35 allowing you to connect your headphones to your device in order for monitoring purposes.
Please make sure the headphones volume is at its lowest before connecting it.
12 - ZONE:
Allows you to adjust the volume of the ZONE output via the rear panel.
This output allows you to add an extra amplifier, independent from the Master output.
Please make sure the volume is at its lowest before connecting your device.
13 - SUB WOOFER:
Allows you to adjust the signal volume of the SUB WOOFER / LIGHTING output (rear panel). This output
allows you to control an amplified subwoofer or lighting device to activate its music-sensitive mode.
14 - FREQ.:
This knob allows you to adjust the cutoff frequency of the SUB WOOFER / LIGHTING output active filter. You
can then adjust basses according to your sound system or location of your installation. Can be adjusted from
40 Hz to 200 Hz.
15 - MASTER BALANCE:
Allows you to adjust the left/right panning level of the Master output signal.
16 - POWER Indicator:
Indicates if your device is activated/deactivated.
17 - POWER Button:
Activates/deactivates your SUBMIX.
Please make sure your amplifier(s) is deactivated before activating your mixer. Then proceed in reverse
order by deactivating the amplifiers first, then your SUBMIX.

18 - MASTER:
Allows you to adjust the MASTER output volume (rear panel).
This output also allows you to control an amplifier independently from the Zone output.
Please make sure the volume of your device is at its lowest before connecting it.
19 - VU meter:
Allow you to visualise the signal level of channels selected via the CUE: either the PFL ( Pre Fader Listen) or
the Master (PGM) output.
The signal level is excessive when the red indicators are lit, this may result in a distorted signal output.
20 - Mono/stereo Master:
Allows you to activate the mono or stereo mode for the Master output.
21 - Channel faders:
Allows you to ajdust the volume of each channel, thus of selected sources.
22 - Source selector:
Allows you to select which kind of device will be connected. Several devices can be connected to the same
channel but only one per channel can be activated. The Phono position refers to turntables.
23 - Signal indicator:
Allows you to visualise the incoming signal level.
The signal level is excessive when it lights red, this may result in a distorted signal output. This signal level
can be adjusted via the GAIN control knob.
24 - Equalization knobs:
Stereo channels feature a 3-band equalization. These knobs allow you to increase or decrease basses (LOW),
mid frequencies (MID) or trebles (HIGH) for each channel.
- HIGH (High Frequency control): Allows you to adjust trebles intensity of the corresponding channel from
-25 dB to 10 dB at 70Hz. Turn it clockwise to increase them, while turning it counterclockwise decreases
them.
- MID (Mid/high Frequency control) : Allows you to adjust mid frequencies intensity of the corresponding
channel from -25 dB to 10 dB at 70Hz. Turn it clockwise to increase them, while turning it counterclockwise
decreases them.
- LOW (low frequency control) : Allows you to adjust basses intensity of the corresponding channel from
-25 dB to 10 dB at 70Hz. Turn it clockwise to increase them, while turning it counterclockwise decreases
them.
Please note that these settings affect the clip level of each channel.
25 - Gain control knobs:
These knobs allow you to adjust the input signal level of each channel. Adjust it reasonably to get a perfect
sound quality as excessive sound levels may result in a distorted signal and damage your amplifiers and
speakers. From -to +14dB.
26 - MIC Input:
Combo socket allowing you to connect an XLR or Jack 6.35 microphone.

1 - Power input:
Connect here your power cord.
2 - USB Port:
Allows you to connect a computer equipped with USB ports. Your SUBMIX acts as sound card and only
requires a few moments for the internal interface to be detected by your computer. Once identified, your
SUBMIX will be considered as an audio device.
The USB port allows you to play and record audio files from your computer.
All you need to do is connect your SUBMIX to your computer, the drivers will install automatically.
You will then be able to play MP3, WMA, WAV (etc.) audio files.
You can also record your current mix on your computer.
The USB port can both play and record at the same time: that is the Full Duplex system.
The USB interface is detected as standard USB sound card (USB Audio Device or USB Audio CODEC).
All audio signals from your computers will be transmitted to your SUBMIX via the USB cable, allowing you
to benefit from both the many possibilities offered by your mixer and the audio database of your computer.
3 - SUB WOOFER / LIGHTING output:
Allow you to connect an amplified subwoofer or lighting device to synchronise its programs with the music.
4 - MASTER XLR output:
This is the main output, allowing you to connect a balanced amplifier.
5 - ZONE output:
This is the second output of your SUBMIX, allowing you to connect an unbalanced amplifier.
6 - TRIM:
This knob allows you to increase or decrease the Master output signal level to protect your speakers and
amplifiers from excessive sound levels.

7 - MASTER RCA Output:
Main RCA output, allowing you to connect an unbalanced amplifier.
8 - RECORD Output:
Allows you to connect a recording system to your SUBMIX. The output level is determined by channel faders
and is not affected by the Master settings.
9 - LINE Input:
Allows you to connect any line-level device such as a CD or cassette player, Tuner, etc.
Turntables cannot be connected to this input.
10 - AUX Input:
Allows you to connect any line-level device such as a CD or cassette player, Tuner, etc.
Turntables cannot be connected to this input.
Channel 4 selector must be positioned onto "AUX4" to activate this input.
11 - PH/AUX Input:
Allows you to connect any line-level device such as a CD or cassette player, Tuner, etc. if the selector has
been positioned onto "AUX".
If the selector has been positioned onto "PH", only a turntable can be connected to this input.
12 - XSTART Connectors:
Allow you to connect an external device compatible with the Xstart function in order to control its playback
according to the position of the SUBMIX crossfader.
Please only use the supplied mono mini jack cables to connect your devices to your SUBMIX.
13 - GND Connector:
Connect here the grounds of your turntables power cords to prevent parasitic noises.
14 - PH/AUX Selector:
Allows you to choose which kind of source will be connected.
Allows you to connect any line-level device such as a CD or cassette player, Tuner, etc. if the selector has
been positioned onto "AUX".
If the selector has been positioned onto "PH", only a turntable can be connected to this input.

The installation opposite is given purely as an example of the different kinds of devices you can connect to
your SUBMIX.
Please make sure the volume levels of your devices are at their minimum before connecting them.
Connect the inputs first, then the outputs.
You can then connect your computer.
Connect your SUBMIX to an electrical outlet.
Activate all sources before activating the amplifiers.
Proceed in reverse order to deactivate your sound system, by deactivating your amplifiers first..
