OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS

1POWER OFF BUTTON
Pressthisbuttontoturntheunitonandoff. Whenturnedon,the
volume level will start at 1 and gradually increase to the level at
which it was set when the unit was turned off.
2VOLUME / LEVEL CONTROLS
To increase the volume level, press the +button. The volume
will increase and the level will be shown on the display panel
from a minimum of V -0 to a maximum of V -46. To increase
the volume quickly, keep the button pressed. To decrease
thevolumelevel,pressthe-button. Keepthebuttonpressedto
decreasethevolumequickly. Thedisplaywillautomaticallyreturn
to the normal indication 5 seconds after the last volume adjust-
ment or when another function is activated. These controls
are also used in conjunction with the Select button3toadjust
the volume, bass, treble, balance and fader levels as described in
4,5,6, and 7.
3SELECT BUTTON (SEL)
This button is used to select the audio function (volume, bass,
treble, balance or fade) to be adjusted using the Level Control
2. Pressing the Select button once will set the unit for volume
adjustment (VOL will appear on thedisplaypanel). Pressingthe
button additional times will select bass adjustment (BAS on
display panel), treble adjustment (TRE), balance (BAL), fader
(FAD), and volume (VOL) again. The display will return to the
normal indication 5 seconds after the last adjustment or when
another function is activated.

4BASS CONTROL
To adjust the bass level, first select the Bass mode by pressing
the Select button 3until the BAS indication appears on the dis-
play panel. Within 5 seconds of choosing the Bass mode, press
the +or - buttons of the Level Control 2to adjust the bass
response as desired. The bass level will be shown on the display
panel from a minimum of B -6 to a maximum of B +6 (B 0
represents flat response). The display will automatically return
tothenormalindication5secondsafterthelastadjustment or when
another function is activated.
5TREBLE CONTROL
To adjust the treble level, first select the Treble mode by pressing
the Select button 3until the TRE indication appears on the
display panel. Within 5 seconds of choosing the Treble
mode, press the +or -buttons of the Level Control 2toadjust
the treble response as desired. The treble level will be shown on
the display panel from a minimum of T -6 to a maximum of T +6
(T 0 represents flat response). The display will automatically
return to the normal indication 5 seconds after the last adjustment
or when anotherfunction is activated.
6LEFT/RIGHT BALANCE CONTROL
To adjust the left-right speaker balance, first select the Balance
mode by pressing the Select button 3until the BAL indication
appearson the display panel. Within 5 seconds ofchoosingthe
Balance mode, press the -or the +button 5of the Level
Control 2to adjust the stereo balance of the right and left
speakers. The balance position will be shown on the display
panel from L 12 (full left) to R 12 (full right). When the volume
level between the left and right speakers is equal, C 00 will be
shown on the displaypanel. Thedisplay will automaticallyreturn
to the normal indication 5 seconds after the last adjustment or
when another function is activated.
7FRONT/REAR FADER CONTROL
Toadjustthefront-rearspeaker balance,firstselecttheFader mode
by pressing the Select button 3until the FAD indication appears
on the display panel. Within 5 seconds of choosing the Fader
mode, press the +or the -buttons of the Level Control 2to
adjust the front-rear speaker levels as desired. The fader position
willbeshownon the displaypanelfromR 12 (fullrear)toF 12 (full
front). When thevolumelevelbetweenthefrontand rearspeakers
is equal, C 00 will be shown on the display panel. The display
will automatically return to the normal indication 5 seconds
after the last adjustment or when another functionisactivated.
8LOUDNESS CONTOUR (LOUD)
When listening to music at low volume levels, this feature will
boost the bass and treble ranges to compensate for the
characteristics of human hearing. Press the button to activate
thisfeatureasindicatedbyLOU on thedisplay panel. Pressing the
button again will de-activate the function and LOU will disappear
fromthedisplay.
9AUDIO MUTE (MUTE)
This button is used to mute the volume from the system. By
pressingthebutton, theindicationMUTEwill appearonthedisplay
panel and the volume will be muted. Pressing the Mutebutton
again or activating any other function of the unit will return to the
volumelevelsettinginusebefore theMutefunction was activated.
bl AM/FM BAND SELECTOR
During radio play, each time the button is pressed, the radio
band changes. The indications AMI,AMII,FMI,FMII, or FMIII
will appear on the display panel according toyourselection.
DuringCDplay,pressing thisbutton will changetoradiooperation
without ejecting the disc.

AUTOMATIC SEEK TUNING
Each time the Up Tuning button ( ) is pressed, the radio will
tuneonefrequencystephigher. Similarly, eachpressoftheDown
Tuning button ( ) will tune one frequency step lower. To
manually tune in a station, press the button in the appropriate
direction until the desired frequency is reached.
Pressing either button for longer than 0.5 seconds and then
releasing will activate the Automatic Seek Tuning function in the
selected direction. Theradiowill seekthe nextavailable station and
stop on that frequency. The Seek function can be stopped by
pressing the button again or activating any other tuning function.
Pressing and holding either button for longer than 0.5 seconds
will cause the radio to continue tuning rapidly in the selected
direction until the button is released at which point it will seek
the next available station.
bn AUTO-STORE TUNING (AS)
PRE-SET SCAN TUNING (PS)
Press this button momentarily to scan the 6 stations inthe
pre-set memories of the band in use. The unit will stop at each
pre-set station for 5 seconds before continuing to the next pre-set
station(thefrequency onthedisplaypanelwillflashduring Pre-Set
Scan operation). Press the button again momentarily tostop
Pre-SetScan operation and remain on the selected frequency.
Pressing the button for longer than 2 seconds will activate the
Auto-Store Tuning feature. The radio will automatically scan the
band in use and enter strong stations into the pre-set local
memory positions for that band. This function is indicated by
a momentary LOC indication on the display panel. If you have
already set the pre-set memories of that band to your favorite
stations, activating the Auto-Store Tuning feature will erase those
stations and enter the new strong stations. This feature is most
useful when traveling in a new area where you are not familiar
with the local stations.
bo STATION PRE-SET MEMORIES
To set any of the 6 pre-set memory buttons, use the following
procedure:
1.Turn the unit on and select the desired band.
2.Select the first station to be pre-set using the Manual Up/Down
or Automatic Up/Down Seek Tuning functions bm.
3.Press the pre-set button to be set and continue to hold the
buttonin. A confirming tonewillbeheardand thepre-setnumber
will appear on the display panel. The station isnow set into
the memory of that pre-set button and can be re-called at any
time by momentarily pressing that button.
4.Repeat the above procedure for theremaining 5 pre-sets on
the band in use and for the other 4 bands of the unit.
bp FM MONO/STEREO SELECTOR (MONO)
During FM radio operation, this button is used to select mono or
stereo reception ofthe broadcast signal. Under normal reception
conditions, the unit should be left in the stereo mode, as indicated
by on the display panel when listening to an FM stereo
signal. If the stereo signal is too weak for comfortable listening,
pressthebuttontoswitchto monoreception(the will disappear
from the display panel and MON will appear). To return to the
stereo reception mode, press the button again so that the MON
indication disappears and the indication returns.
bq LIQUID CRYSTAL DISPLAY PANEL
The Liquid Crystal Display (LCD) panel displays the frequency,
time, and activated functions.

NOTE: It is a characteristic of LCD panels that, if subjected to cold
temperatures for an extended period of time, they may take
longertoilluminatethanundernormalconditions. Inaddition,
thevisibilityofthenumbersontheLCDmayslightlydecrease.
TheLCDread-outwillreturntonormalwhenthetemperature
increases to a normal range.
br DISC SLOT
Withthelabel surface facing up, gently insert the disc into the slot until
the soft-loading mechanism engages and disc play begins. The
indicationand track number will appear on the display panel.
NOTE:This unit is designed for play of standard 5 " ( 12cm)
Compact Discs ONLY. Do not attempt to use 3" (8cm)
CD-Singlesinthis unit,eitherwith orwithoutanadaptor, as
damage to the player and/or disc can occur. Such damage
will not be covered by the Warranty on this product.
bs CD MODE SELECTOR (CD)
CD PLAY/PAUSE SELECTOR ( II )
When listening to radio with a disc loaded in the unit ( onthe
displaypanel),press this button to return todiscplaymodefromthe
beginning of the last track in play.
During disc play, press this button to tempoarily stop play of the
disc (“PAUS” will appear on the display panel). Press the button
againtoresume play fromthepointat whichitwasstopped. Pause
mode will also be canceled by activating any other disc function.
bt TRACK SELECT ( / )
The Track Select functions are used to quickly access the
beginning of a particular track. Each time the Forward Track
Select ( ) button is pressed, the next higher track number will
be selected as shown on the display panel. Similarly, each time
the Backward Track Select ( ) button is pressed, the next
lowertracknumber willbeselectedas shownonthedisplay panel.
bu CUE/REVIEW FUNCTIONS ( / )
High-speed audible search to any section of the disc can be
made by the Cue and Review functions. Press and hold the
Cue button ( ) to advance rapidly in the forward direction or
the Review button ( ) to advance rapidly in the backward di-
rection. During either function, the elapsed time within each
track will automatically be shown on the display panel.
cl TRACK SCAN SELECTOR (SCN)
During disc play, press this button to play the first 10 seconds of
eachtrackonthedisc (SCN will appear on the display panel and
the track number will flash). When a desired track is reached,
press theTrack Scan button again to cancel the function and play
of the selected track will continue. Track Scan mode will also be
canceled by activating the Repeat Play cm or Random Play co
functions.
cm TRACK REPEAT PLAY SELECTOR (RPT)
Duringdiscplay, pressthisbuttonto repeattheplayoftheselected
track (RPT will appear on the display panel). Play of the track
will continue to repeat until the button is pressed again and the
RPT indication disappears from the display panel. Repeat Play
mode will also be canceled by activating the Track Scan cl or
RandomPlay co functions.
cn REPEAT A - B SELECTOR (RPT A-B)
The Repeat A - B function is used to select a section of the disc
other than a complete track to be repeated. Press the button
at the beginning of the section that you wish to have repeated
(RPT and Awill appear on the display panel). Allow the disc to
play to the end of the section that you wish to have repeated
and then press the button again (the Aon the display panel
will change to a b). The selected section will be played repeatedly
untilthe function is canceledby pressingtheRepeat A-B button

again or activating any other disc function.
co RANDOM PLAY SELECTOR (RDM)
Duringdisc play, press this button to playthetracksonthediscin
a random shuffled order (RDM will appear on the display panel).
InRandom Play mode, the Forward Track Select ( ) will
also select tracks in the random order instead of the normal
progression. Backward Track Select ( ) will go back to the
beginningofthetrackinplayifithasplayedlongerthan5seconds
or to a random track if it has played less than 5 seconds. The
Random Play mode can be canceled bypressingthebuttonagain
(RDM indication will disappear from the display panel). Activating
the Track Scan cl mode will add that function to the Random
Play mode so that the unit will scan the tracks in random order.
Similarly, activating the Repeat Play cm mode will add that function to
the Random Play mode so the unit will continue to repeat the
track in play.
cp PROGRAMMED PLAY SELECTOR (PGM)
cq MEMORY/CLEAR SELECTOR (MEM/CLR)
Up to 24 tracks can be programmed to be played in your selected
order on this unit. The following procedure is used to program
the order of track play:
1. Insert a disc into the unit to begin disc play.
2. Select the first track to be programmed using the Track Select
buttons bt. Press the Memory Selector button cq. The
indicationM -01 willmomentarily appearon the display panel,
indicating that the selected track has been entered as the
first one to be played in Programmed Play mode.
3. Select the second track to be programmed using the Track
Select button and then press the Memory Selector button.
M -02 will appear on the display indicating the selected
track has been entered as the second one to be played in
Programmed Play mode.
4. In similar manner, continue selecting other tracks (up to a
maximum of 24) to be played in programmed order. The
indication FULL will appear on the display panel if attempting
to program more than 24 selections.
To play the tracks in the selected order after the programming is
completed, press the Programmed Play button cp so that the
PGM indication appears on the display panel. Play will begin of
thefirsttrackselected intheprogrammed order. DuringProgrammed
Play mode, the Track Select functions bt will operate in the
programmedorder insteadofthenormalprogression. TrackScan
cl and Track Repeat cm can be selected during Programmed
Play and will operate on the programmed tracks.
To de-activate Programmed Play and return to play of all tracks
on the disc in normal order, press the Programmed Play button
cp again so that the PGM disappears from the display panel.
Activating theCue/Reviewfunctionsbu orthe Random Play mode
co will also cancel Programmed Play mode.
Clearing Programmed Play Memory: To clear the Programmed
Play memory, press the Memory Clear button cq at any time
during Programmed Play mode (PGM on display panel). PGM
will disappear from the display panel and the program will be
erased. The Programmed Play memory will also be cleared
automatically when the disc is ejected.
NOTE:Program Play memory will be maintained if the disc is left
in the player when the unit is shut off.
cr DISC EJECT ( )
Disc play is stopped, the disc is ejected and the unit will change
to radio operation by pressing this button (EJT will briefly appear
on the display panel). If the disc is not removed from the unit

within10secondsofbeingejected,itwillautomaticallybere-loaded
into the unit to prevent damage ( will appear on the display
panel). Pressing the Disc Eject button again before removing
the disc will also re-load the disc into the unit.
cs TIME/FREQUENCY DISPLAY SELECTOR (T/F)
Pressthisbutton tocallthetime displayontheincorporated quartz
clock. Pressthebuttonagaintoreturnto radio frequency or disc
display or it will return automatically after 5 seconds.
ct THEFT-DETERRENT LED
Located on the chassis behind the front panel, a light-emitting
diode (LED) will flash when the panel is removed. The flashing
lightservesasavisualwarningto the would-be thief that the unit
has been disabled by removal of the front panel.
cu RE-SET BUTTON
A Re-Set button is located on the chassis behind the front panel.
(Front panel must be removed to access the button). The re-set
circuitry is provided to protect the microprocessor circuitry and
should only be activated under the following circumstances.
1.Upon initial installation after all wiring is completed.
2.If there is a malfunction of any of the switches on the unit or of
the CD player, pressing the Re-Set button may clear the
system and return to normal operation.
dl FRONT PANEL RELEASE BUTTON ( )
Thisbuttonisusedtoreleasethemechanismthatholdsthefront
panel to the chassis. To detach the front panel, press the button
so that the left side of the panel is released. Grasp the released
sideandpullitoffofthechassis. To re-attach the panel, position
the right side of the panel in place first and then press the left
side of the panel until the mechanism locks it into place.
NOTES ON USE OF FRONT PANEL
1.Make sure the front panel is right-side-up when attaching it to the
chassis as it cannot be attached when up-side down.
2.Do not press very hard on the front panel when attaching it to the
chassis. Nomorethan light tomoderate pressure shouldbe needed.
3.When attaching the front panel, make sure the right side is correctly
engaged before pressing the left side to lock it into position.
4.When taking the front panel with you, please use the supplied
carrying case to protect the panel from dirt and damage.

If a problem should develop while operating the CD player, the following error codes may be displayed on the display panel:
ER-2: Indicates the disc is not loading properly. Try re-loading or pressing the Eject button. Check the condition of the
disc in use or try another disc.
ER-3: Indicatesthediscisnot ejecting properly. TrypressingtheEjectbuttonagain. Check the condition of the disc
in use or try another disc.
ER-4: Indicates an error in the laser reading the disc. Eject the disc, make sure it is clean, undamaged, and loaded
correctly (label side up). Re-load the disc and check for proper operation or try another disc.
ER-5: Indicatesexcessivetemperatureconditions. CD play will resume when the temperature returnstothe normal
range.
ER-6: Indicatesamechanismerror. Eject the disc and try re-loading. Also try activating the Re-Set button cu and try
again.
ER-7: Indicates an error in the laser reading the disc. Eject the disc, make sure it is clean, undamaged, and loaded
correctly (label side up. Re-load thedisc and check for proper operation or try another disc.
ER-8: Indicates an error in the laser reading the disc. Eject the disc, make sure it is clean, undamaged, and loaded
correctly (label side up). Re-load the disc and check for proper operation or try another disc.
If the suggested measures do not solve the problem, contact an approved warranty station near you for further assistance.

1. Switch the vehicle ignition “on” and the radio “on” (radio frequency or disc track number will be shown on the display panel).
2. Press and hold theTime/FrequencyDisplaySelectorbuttoncs approximately 2 secondsuntil the time display appearswith the
colon ( :) flashing. Release the Time/Frequency button.
3. Press the Down Tuning button ( ) to adjust the hours and the “AM” indicator and the Up Tuning button ( ) to adjust the
minutes to the correct time.
4. When the correct time is shown on the display panel, release the Time/Frequency Selector button again or wait 5 seconds for
the display to return to the normal indication.

Do not attempt to open the unit chassis. There are no user
serviceable parts or adjustments inside.
Whenthevehiclewarmsupduringcoldweatherorunderdamp
conditions, moisture may condense on the lens of the disc
player. Should this occur, the player will not operate properly
until the moisture has evaporated.
TheunitisdesignedwithavibrationdampeningCDmechanism
tominimizeinterruptionof discplayduetonormal vibration ina
moving vehicle. When driving on very rough roads, however,
occasional sound skips may occur. This will not scratch or
damage the disc and normal play will resume when the rough
conditions cease.
HANDLING COMPACT DISCS
Dirt, dust, scratches, and warpage can cause skips in the
playbackanddeteriorationofsoundquality. Pleasefollowthese
guidelines to take care of your compact discs:
Use only compact discs with the mark
Fingerprints, dust, and dirt should be carefully wiped off the
disc’s playing surface (shiny side) with a soft cloth. Wipe in a
straight motion from the inside to the outside of the disc.
Neverusechemicalssuchas recordsprays,household cleaners
or thinner to clean compact discs. Such chemicals can
irreparably damage the disc’s surface.
Discs should be kept in their storage cases when not in use.
Donotexposediscstodirectsunlight,hightemperaturesorhigh
humidity for extended periods.
Donot stickpaper,tape,orlabelsonthediscsurfacesnorwrite
on them with any type of marker.

CARE AND MAINTENANCE
Theradiosectionofyournewsoundsystemdoesnotrequireany
maintenance. We recommend you keep this manual for
referenceonthemanyfeaturesfoundinthisunitaswellashow
to set the clock.
The compact disc player section also requires no routine
maintenance,butproper understanding ofitsuseand handling
willhelpyouobtainmaximumenjoyment of its capabilities. The
following points should be observed:
When cleaning the interior of the vehicle, do not get water or
cleaning fluids on the unit.
The CD player is a precision instrument and will not operate
properlyinextreme hot or cold. In case of such conditions, wait
until the interior temperature of the vehicle reaches a normal
temperature before using the player.
If the temperature inside the player gets too hot, a protective
circuitwillautomaticallystopplayofthedisc. Inthiscase,allow
the unit to cool off before operating the player again.
Never insert anything other than a 5" (12 cm) compact disc into
theplayerasthemechanismcanbedamagedbyforeignobjects.
Donotattempttouse3"(8cm)CD-Singlediscsinthisunit,either
with or without an adaptor, as damage to the player and/or disc
mayoccur. SuchdamagewillnotbecoveredbytheWarrantyon
this product.
When not using the disc player, always remove the compact
disc. Do not leave an ejected disc sitting in the disc slot as this
can expose it to sunlight and other causes of damage.
