I NTRODUCTION
Dear Customer!
eThe devices, assembly groups or connections described in this manual are made for the
indicated use only. If you are not sure about the intended purpose of the product, please
contact the dealer.
☞In order to operate the system telephone on the PBX systems COMpact 4410 USB,
COMpact 2206 USB, COMpact 4406 DSL, COMmander Basic and COMmander Basic
19" , these Auerswald PBX systems must have the Software version 1.6A or newer. If
this is not the case, please perform a PBX firmware update (refer to the PBX manual).
Functional Description
The cordless system telephone COMfort DECT is designed for the connection to the
Auerswald PBX systems COMpact 4410 USB, COMpact 2206 USB, COMpact 4406
DSL, COMmander Basic and COMmander Basic 19". You do not only phone with digital
ISDN speech quality but you are still reachable away from your office. The handset has
a comfortable and easy-to-use handling, is surprisingly light-weight but still robust. It is
fitting well for professional use.
The COMfort DECT consists of the basestation (COMfort DECT Base 128) and the
handset (COMfort DECT 800). You can log in up to eight COMfort DECT 800 handsets
to one basestation. With the COMfort DECT repeaters (XA), (available as an option) you
can bridge distances of up to 1000 m e.g. to supply distanced buildings with DECT sys-
tem telephony. Please ask your authorized dealer.

Scope of Functions
☞The scope of functions described here is only completely usable with a professional
installation and a correct configuration of the PBX and the connected PC. We highly
recommend to consult your authorized dealer first.
Please ask your network operator about the availability of some ISDN service attributes.
Some of these functions may be available for an extra fee.
The operation of the telephones on other PBX systems than recommended or on the
public telephone network is not intended.
쎲Illuminated 3-digit display with 12 characters per line, one symbol line
쎲Vibration ringer and optical call signalization via LED
쎲Up to 65 (actual number is subject to the firmware version) telephone book entries per handset
– synchronization with the telephone numbers and names of the global short-code memory of
the PBX
쎲Headset connection, automatic call acception is possible
쎲Redial of the last 10 telephone numbers is possible
쎲Caller list of the last 10 unsuccessful incoming calls
쎲key lock by key pressing or automatically
쎲Silent mode by key pressing (mutes all acoustic signals)

Tips for the Use of this Manual
This manual describes in all details the use of the system telephone COMfort DECT 800. In order
to get certain information quickly and carefully directed, the manual will offer you different helps and
guide lines:
쎲The content on page 3 gives you an idea about content and organization of this manuals.
쎲The index on page 50 helps you to find certain text portions for a certain term.
쎲In the texts you will be referred to other chapters or pictures with the help of cross references. They
will illustrate the respective theme.
쎲On the right side the headlines of the paragraph will be repeated.
Symbols used in the Manual
eThe warning triangle shows you important advice. You must absolutely take care of these in order
to avoid damages on devices or even on persons.
☞The hand gives you additional advice. These refer you to circumstances which were often disre-
garded and therefore led to misunderstandings and longer search for an error.
+This symbol marks tips and tricks that make telephoning with your system telephone easier and
more comfortable.
Terms/Abbreviation used in the Manual
Cursor: Insert or writing symbol
LED: Light Emitting Diode. An electrical component looking like a little lamp/light and being used
for indications. (also multi-colored).

Commissioning
Connect the rechargeable Battery
Put the handset with the display downwards on your palm. Open the
protective cover app. 5 mm by sliding it with the thumb of the same
hand (pic. 1). Then lift the cover and take it away from the device
(pic. 2). Connect the battery plug to the jack in the rechargeable bat-
tery compartment. Make sure the red wire is near the position of the
arrow (pic. 3).
eDo not use any other rechargeable batteries type than the enclosed ones and no normal
batteries. Other rechargeable batteries may cause a short circuit and destroy the battery
container!
Please pay attention to the correct waste disposal of the no longer useful rechargeable
batteries. Do not put the rechargeable batteries into the domestic waste, but to a recy-

cling station for old batteries. This is also valid for the whole unit if it is not useful any
longer one day. (see also chapter Environmental Advice on page 13).
Charge the Battery
Connect the charger with the wall power supply (pic. 4) and then with a freely accessible
230 V mains jack with protective earth. Put the telephone into the desktop charger
(pic. 5).
The first charging will need app. 3,5 hours. The
charge status will be shown in the display. After the
first charging procedure you can put the telephone
into the desktop charger after every call.
☞To extend the battery lifetime, you should discharge the rechargeable battery completely
from time to time. Keep the telephone switched on until it switches off by itself.

Subscribe to a Basestation
Before you can make a call, the handset has to be subscribed to a basestation and con-
figured with the configuration program of the PBX. This is described in detail in the man-
ual of the basestation.
☞If the telephone is subscribed and in range you
will see on the left side of the display the sign:

Connect a Headset
To connect a Headset (e.g. the GN Netcom
M2520) to the handset, plug the plug of the
headset into the jack at the bottom (pic. 6).
☞To accept a call when you can´t use your hands
at the moment, you can activate the automatic
call acception (see page 44).
Placing and Cleaning of the Device
Put the charger on a non slippery pad. It might be possible that some plastics or colors
used on furniture are aggressive to the device feet. This chemical reaction might cause
damage to the surface of your furniture. The manufacturer is not taking any responsibility
for this kind of damage.

Protect your system telephone against dirt, dust and moisture. If a cleaning is necessary,
wipe the casing with a lightly damp cloth or use an antistatic cloth. Make sure, no mois-
ture will enter the casing.
Safety Precautions
쎲Read the manual and keep it for reference. Additional questions can be answered by your
dealer. There are no user serviceable parts inside. Do not open the case!
쎲Do not use other rechargeable batteries than the enclosed ones and no standard batteries.
These rechargeable batteries/batteries may burst and/or destroy your unit!
쎲Do not short-circuit the connection of the rechargeable batteries! Especially avoid accidentally
short circuits while storing or transporting by e.g. a key ring or similar. Keep the rechargeable
batteries in an isolating packaging outside of the handset.
쎲Never throw the rechargeable packing into water or into fire!
쎲Do not disassemble the rechargeable battery. There may be risk of injury!
쎲Do not use not other rechargers, the rechargeable batteries may be damaged.
쎲Do not use the handset in explosive environments.
쎲Medical devices may be influenced by an active mobile telephones (DECT). If mobile tele-
phones are used inside medical buildings, the local restrictions have to be respected.
쎲If you wear a hearing aid, please pay attention to the fact that radio signals of sufficient intensity
can interfere with the hearing aid when using the handset and may cause an unpleasant hum
tone.
쎲Avoid placing the device into direct sunshine or other source of temperature. Protect the device
against moisture, dirt, aggressive fluids or steam.

쎲Avoid placing the device into strong electromagnetic fields (electric motors, mobile phones, TV
sets, VCRs, radios and household equipment).

Environmental Advice
The device contains a rechargeable battery. Please pay attention to the correct waste
disposal of the no longer useful rechargeable batteries. Do not put the rechargeable bat-
teries into the domestic waste, but to a recycling station for old batteries (see also chap-
ter Connect the rechargeable Battery on page 9). This is also valid for the whole unit if it
is not useful any longer one day. If you like that we do the waste disposal, please send
back the unit to us (unfortunately unstamped deliveries cannot be accepted).

Control the Capacity of the Rechargeable Batteries
To get a correct capacity status, the handset has to be at least one hour outside of the
desktop charger. If there are less than three full bars, the battery has to be recharged.
MCall the main menu.
ZV Search for the menu „Battery“.

Menu Key
MFrom the idle state this key switches to the main menu for different settings.
In case of opened/activated menu (settings, telephone book etc.) this key switches into the state of
inactivity.
Left Arrow Key
ZFrom the idle state this key switches into caller/redial list.
While entering a telephone number (dialing preparation/telephone book) a short activation of the
key deletes the last digit. Holding the key (app. 3 seconds) deletes the whole telephone number.
When entering a name (telephone book) a short activation of the key moves the cursor to the left.
Holding the key (app. 2 seconds) deletes the last sign in front of the cursor. Holding the key (app.
5 seconds) deletes the whole name.
If the menu is open (settings, telephone book etc.) this key browses to the left.
Right Arrow Key
VFrom the idle state this key switches into the telephone book.
When entering a name (telephone book) a short activation of the key moves the cursor to the right
(if possible).
If the menu is open (settings, telephone book etc.), this key browses to the right.
The OK Key
OIn the call state this key deactivates the microphone in the handset (mute). If you press this key
again, the corresponding microphone will be activated again.
In case of an incoming call this key switches the ringer tone off.
If the menu is open (settings, telephone book etc.) this key confirms a selection.
In any arbitrary status a longer activation (4 seconds) of the key switches the handset off.

AAlt Key
This key enables a disconnect during switching functions.
R Key (Query Key)
FIn a call this key enables the introduction of query calls, alternation or transfers.
Hook Key
HBefore or after the dialing of a telephone number an activation of this key starts the call.
In the conversation or call status an activation of this key cancels the call.
If the device is switched off, a longer activation (app. 1 second) switches it on again.
Keypad
NWhen entering a telephone number (dial preparation/telephone book) and in off-hook state the
number digits will be dialed.
When entering a name (telephone book) letters/characters are selected (see also page 35).
Menu and Star Key
M* From the idle state these keys activate the key lock if pressed one after the other.
The same key combination also switches the key lock off.
Menu and Hash Key
M# From the idle state these keys deactivates the ringer tone if pressed one after the other.
The same key combination also activates the ringer tone again.
M2Menu and Number Key (1 or 2)
From the idle state these keys activate one of both profiles if they are pressed one after the other.
The menu key + 1 activates the profile 1. The menu key + 2 switches on the profile 2.

Switching on/off the Device
If you do not need to use the handset from time to time, you are able to switch it off
entirely (Rechargeable battery economy mode).
Press the OK key Ofor app. 4 seconds. The switching off will be confirmed by a short
tone. Now you cannot be reached with the handset any longer.
Pressing the hook key Hagain (app. 1 second) will switch on the device again.
Key lock
If you transport the handset in the pocket of your trousers or similar, it may be useful to
protect the keys against accidental activation.
To activate the key lock, press the keys Mand *one after the other.
While the key lock is active incoming calls can be accepted with the hook key H. All
the other keys are inactive.
To switch the key lock off again, press the keys Mand *again.
Switch off the Ringer Signal temporarily
If you like to be reachable without the disturbing ringing of the telephone, e.g during a
conference you can switch off the ringer signal temporarily.
Press the keys Mand #one after the other. Incoming calls will only be signalized via
LED or via the activated vibration ringer.
To switch the ringer signal on again, press the keys Mand #.

MAKE ACALL
Accept a Call
If the telephone number was entered into the telephone book of your system telephone,
the telephone number with the corresponding name will be shown on the display - as
soon as the telephone has recognized the number. If you are called, the display shows
the number or name of the caller even before you pick up the receiver. Preconditions for
the indication of the telephone number of an external caller:
앫The call origin was a digital network.
앫The caller did not suppress the telephone number presentation.
If the number is not available, only „incoming call“ will be displayed.
+If you are not available or cannot accept the call for another reason, the caller’s tele-
phone number will be stored if available. Then you can directly dial the number from the
caller’s list to start a recall (see page 22).

Make a call to Somebody
☞In case of an external telephone number do not forget to enter the exchange line access
number „0“ (Exception: Direct exchange line telephone; see page 28).
Comfort Functions of the Telephone
With the functions described here such as caller list, telephone book etc. you are able to
phone very comfortably.
HPress the hook key.
NDial the requested telephone number (external
numbers with exchange line access number).
When you finish to dial the number, the subscriber
will be called.
