typeyouuse.
TheLiveViewpageintheproductprovidesaccesstoH.264andMotionJPEGvideostreamsandtothelistofavailablestream
proles.OtherapplicationsandclientscanaccessvideostreamsdirectlywithoutgoingviatheLiveViewpage.
HowtoStreamH.264
H.264canwithoutcompromisingimagequalityreducethesizeofadigitalvideolebymorethan80%comparedwiththeMotion
JPEGformatandasmuchas50%morethantheMPEG-4standard.Thismeansthatmuchlessnetworkbandwidthandstoragespace
arerequiredforavideole.Orseenanotherwaymuchhighervideoqualitycanbeachievedforagivenbitrate.
Decidingwhichcombinationofprotocolsandmethodstousedependsonyourviewingrequirementsandonthepropertiesof
yournetwork.TheavailableoptionsinAXISMediaControlare:
UnicastRTPThisunicastmethod(RTPoverUDP)isused
forliveunicastvideoespeciallywhenitis
importanttoalwayshaveanup-to-datevideo
streamevenifsomeframesaredropped.

Multicastingprovidesthemostefcientusageofbandwidthwhentherearelargenumbersof
clientsviewingsimultaneously.Amulticastcannothoweverpassanetworkrouterunlessthe
routerisconguredtoallowthis.ItisnotpossibletomulticastovertheInternetforexample.
Notealsothatallmulticastviewerscountasoneunicastviewerinthemaximumtotalof20
simultaneousconnections.
AXISMediaControlnegotiateswiththeAxisproducttodeterminethetransportprotocoltouse.Theorderofprioritylistedinthe
AMCControlPanelcanbechangedandtheoptionsdisabledtosuitspecicrequirements.

ThisformatusesstandardJPEGstillimagesforthevideostream.Theseimagesarethendisplayedandupdatedataratesufcient
tocreateastreamthatshowsconstantlyupdatedmotion.
TheMotionJPEGstreamusesconsiderableamountsofbandwidthbutprovidesexcellentimagequalityandaccesstoeveryimage
containedinthestream.TherecommendedmethodofaccessingMotionJPEGlivevideofromtheAxisproductistousetheAXIS
MediaControlinInternetExplorerinWindows.

H.264alsoknownasMPEG-4Part10/AVCisavideocompressionstandardthatprovideshighqualityvideostreamsatlowbitrates.
AnH.264videostreamconsistsofdifferenttypesofframessuchasI-framesandP-frames.AnI-frameisacompleteimagewhereas
P-framesonlycontainthedifferencesfrompreviousframes.
TheGOVlengthisthenumberofframesbetweentwoconsecutiveI-frames.IncreasingtheGOVlengthmaysaveconsiderablyon
bandwidthrequirementsinsomecasesbutmayalsohaveanadverseaffectonimagequality.
TheAxisproductsupportstwoH264proles.TheMainproleprovideshighercompressionthantheBaselineprolewiththesame
videoqualitybutrequiresmoreprocessingpowertodecode.
ThebitratecanbesetasVariablebitrate(VBR)orConstantbitrate(CBR).VBRadjuststhebitrateaccordingtotheimage
complexityusingupmorebandwidthforincreasedactivityintheimageandlessforlowerimageactivity.Whentheactivityin
thesceneincreasesthebitratewouldusuallyincreaseaswell.Ifthereisasurplusinbandwidththismaynotbeanissueand
selectingVariablebitrate(VBR)willbesufcient.Butifbandwidthislimiteditisrecommendedtocontrolthebitratebyselecting
Constantbitrate(CBR).WhentheactivityinthesceneincreasesVBRadjuststhebitrateaccordingtothecomplexityusingup
morebandwidthforincreasedactivityinthesceneandlessforlowersceneactivity.CBRallowsyoutosetatargetbitratethat
limitsthebandwidthconsumption.
TheCBRtargetbitrateworksliketheceilingofatent.Itlimitsthebitratewhilemaintainingsomeexibility.Thebitratemaybounce
upanddownwithinthesettargetbutwhenitnearsthesettargetvaluethelimitationkicksin.HoweverbecauseCBRwillalways
prioritizeacontinuousvideostreamitallowstemporaryovershootsfromthetargetbitrate.Becausesettingatargetvalueprevents
thebitratefromincreasingframerateandimagequalityareaffectednegatively.Topartlycompensateforthisselectwhichvariable
shallbeprioritizedframerateorimagequality.Notsettingaprioritymeansthatframerateandimagequalityareequallyaffected.

providesconsistentlygoodimagequalityattheexpenseofincreasedbandwidthandstorageusageinlowlight.Limitingtheframe
sizeoptimizesbandwidthandstorageusagebutmaygivepoorimagequality.Topreventincreasedbandwidthandstorageusage
themaximumframesizeshouldbesettoanoptimalvalue.

IncreasingtheSharpnesscanincreasebandwidthusage.Asharperimagemightincreaseimagenoiseespeciallyinlowlight

usingdifferentprioritizationinnormallightandinlowlight.
Shutterspeedisrelatedtotheamountoftimetheshutterisopenedandismeasuredinseconds(s).Aslowshutterspeedallows
morelighttoreachthesensorandcanhelpproduceabrighterimageinlowlightsituations.Ontheotherhandaslowshutter

TheIRcutlterpreventsinfrared(IR)lightfromreachingtheimagesensor.Inpoorlightingconditionsforexampleatnightorwhen
usinganexternalIRlampsettheIRcutltertoOff.Thisincreaseslightsensitivityandallowstheproductto“see”infraredlight.The
imageisshowninblackandwhitewhentheIRcutlterisoff.
IfusingautomaticExposurecontrolsettheIRcutltertoAutotoautomaticallyswitchbetweenOnandOffaccordingtothe
lightingconditions.
ThecameralensisIRcorrectedwhichmeansthatitmaintainsfocusinmixedlighthoweverasmallfocusadjustmentis
recommendedwhenIRilluminationisused.SelectEnablefocusadjustmentforIRilluminationtoautomaticallyadjustthefocus
whentheIRcutlterswitchesbetweenonandoff.
TheDay/Nightshiftlevelbarhelpsdeterminewhenthecamerawillshiftfromdaymodetonightmode.Normallythecamera
