LaserSafety
Thisequipmentgenerates,usesandcanradiateradiofrequencyenergy.Ifnotinstalled
andusedinaccordancewiththeinstructionsinthismanual,itmaycauseinterferenceto
radiocommunications.Theequipmenthasbeentestedandfoundtocomplywiththe
limitsforaClassAcomputingdevicepursuanttoEN55022and47CFR,Part2andPart15
ofFCCRules.Thesespecificationsaredesignedtoprovidereasonableprotectionagainst
interferencewhenoperatedinacommercialenvironment.
RadiantEnergy:Thelaserscannerusesonelow‐powervisiblelaserdiodesoperatingat
650nminanopto‐mechanicalscannerresultinginlessthan3.9μWradiatedpoweras
observedthrougha7mmapertureandaveragedover10seconds.
Donotattempttoremovetheprotectivehousingofthescanner,asunscannedlaserlight
withapeakoutputupto0.8mWwouldbeaccessibleinside.
LaserLightViewing:Thescanwindowistheonlyaperturethroughwhichlaserlightmay
beobservedfromthisproduct.Afailureofthescannermotor,whilethelaserdiode
continuestoemitalaserbeam,maycauseemissionlevelstoexceedthoseforsafe
operation.Thescannerhassafeguardstopreventthisoccurrence.If,however,a
stationarylaserbeamisemitted,thefailingscannershouldbedisconnectedfromits
powersourceimmediately.
Adjustments:Donotattemptanyadjustmentsoralterationofthisproduct.Donot
removetheprotectivehousingofthescanner.Therearenouser‐serviceablepartsinside.
Optical:Theuseofopticalinstrumentswiththisproductwillincreasetheeyehazard.
Opticalinstrumentsincludebinoculars,magnifyingglasses,andmicroscopesbutdonot
includenormaleyeglasseswornbytheuser.
CAUTION:Useofcontrolsoradjustmentsorperformanceofproceduresotherthan
thosespecifiedhereinmayresultinhazardousradiationexposure.

IntroductiontoScannerConfiguration
Scanningaseriesofprogrammingbarcodelabelscanconfiguretheseriesscanners.
Thisallowsdecodingoptionsandinterfaceprotocolstobetailoredtoaspecific
application.Theconfigurationisstoredinnon‐volatilememoryandwillnotbelostby
removingpowerfromthescanner.
Thescannermustbeproperlypoweredbeforeprogramming.ForRS‐232Ctype
scanners,anexternalpoweradaptermustbeusedtosupplyDCpowertothescanner.
IfakeyboardemulationtypescannerisusedwithanIBMPC/XT/AT,PS/2oranyfully
compatiblecomputers,powerwillbedrawnfromthekeyboardport.Noexternal
poweradapterisrequired.Ifkeyboardemulationtypescannerisusedwithanyother
nonIBMPCcompatiblecomputers,anexternalpoweradaptermaybeneeded.
Duringtheprogrammingmode,thelaserscannerwillacknowledgeagoodandvalid
readingwithashortbeep.Itwillgivelongbeepsorremainsilentforeitheraninvalid
orbadreading.
Programmableoptionsaredividedintofourgroups.Thefirstgroupincludesthe
optionsthatshowthegeneralbehaviorofthelaserscanner.Thesecondgroup
governstheoperationofdifferentinterfaces,RS‐232serialports,keyboard,andUSB.
Thethirdgroupsetsthedecodingparametersforeachbarcodesymbology.Thelast
groupisaboutmoreadvanceddataformatting.
