Introduction
Thank you for purchasing the Ayra OSO W-D. This practical kit, consisting of two wireless DMX 'pens' an 2
matching power a apters, is use to transmit DMX signals from a lighting controller or interface to your DMX
enable lighting fixtures. One of the evices is the transmitting evice, the other one is the receiver. This
user manual provi es you with all the information you nee to get the best out of the features this evice has
to offer.
Rea this user manual before you set up the evice an familiarise yourself with the pro uct an its
accessories. Also check the box contents to make sure the evice has not been amage an all
accessories are inclu e as they shoul .
If you encounter any problems uring unpacking, installation or use, contact your local ealer for more
information an help.
The OSO W-D kit can be exten e with the use of one of the OSO DIS-H wireless DMX splitters. This way,
upon arrival of the wireless signals, the signal can be splitte in several isolate outputs. This gives users the
flexibility of making multiple DMX groups, without having to pull cables from an to every fixture.
The OSO W-D makes use of special technology to ensure that the wireless transmitte signal is as strong
an stable as possible. However, the reliability of the system epen s on the surroun ing environment,
something which can not always be controlle . It is therefore recommen e to use cables to connect your
DMX evices where possible an practical, as technically this is always a more stable an reliable solution.
For situations where the use of cables is impossible, angerous or ifficult, the OSO W-D is an useful
problem-solver.
Please note before use:
The OSO W-D works on the 2.4 GHz frequency. This is a global free to use frequency, also use by
equipment such as wireless microphones, Bluetooth speakers, smartphones, tablet computers, microwaves,
WiFi-routers an so on. When use for applications such as large festivals, the OSO W-D will be surroun e
with a lot of evices who make use of the same frequencies.
Thankfully, the OSO W-D is equippe with mo ern electronics, preventing interference as much as possible.
As the surroun ings with every use of this pro uct vary, 100% stable operation of this pro uct can not be
guarantee in all circumstances.

Setting u and using the OSO W-D
OSO W-D mounting
Upon arrival an unpacking, the OSO W-D requires a little bit of assembly before it can be use .
The 2 seperate antennas which are inclu e , can be mounte on the correspon ing connector. Twist the
connector clockwise in place until you feel it has been tightene .
The antenna of the OSO W-D can be angle , which can be easier for use in some settings. Please note that
the antennas shoul point at the same irection (either up or own) for the best signal transfer.
Powering the unit
Connect the power a apter (both are i entical) to either the transmitter or receiver an plug the a apter into
a suitable wall outlet. Once power is etecte , the units will start up.
The units will both blink when powere up to etermine their status.
Common status:
Transmitter status:
- re blinking: sen ing wireless DMX signal
- re full on: No DMX signal
Receiver status:
- green blinking: receiving wireless DMX signal
- green full on: no wireless signal
The transmitter can be plugge irectly into a lighting console or DMX computer interface. The receiver can
be plugge into one of your DMX lighting fixtures. It’s also possible to connect the transmitter somewhere
else in the signal chain, in case you wish to transfer the signal further from a lighting fixture near your setup.
It may be practical to use a stan ar XLR cable between the wireless DMX transmitter/receiver an the
console or lights to be able to position the evices better. This has no influence on the operation of the
evices.
To ensure a connection between the transmitter an receiver, make sure both evices are set to the same
ID. You can o this by pressing the re button on the unit. When pressing, the unit will go to the next ID an
show the correspon ing colour. There are 7 ID’s, each coloure ifferently by an RGB LED. Once the
esire ID shows up, the evice will go back to showing the current status.
Once a connection has been establishe , the transmitter will blink re , the receiver will blink green. DMX
ata can now be transferre from the lighting console to the DMX lighting fixtures.
Stability and reliability when in use
Please note that the OSO W-D works on the global free to use 2.4 GHz ban . The system makes use of the
7 ID’s to ensure that up to 7 systems can work together.
However, please be aware that the 2.4 GHz ban is also use by lots of other equipment, such as:
- laptops
- smartphones
- Bluetooth enable evices
- WiFi enable evices (also routers)
- tablet computers
- microwaves
To prevent signal loss, the OSO W-D continuously seeks for stable signals in 126 ifferent channels in the
2.4 GHz ban it operates in.
The information and illustrations shown in this user manual are subject to change without notice.
User manual version: 2.0 Creation date + author initials: 27-01-2016 RV Revision date + author initials: 23-07-2016

Next to the various other types of evices working on the same frequency, other influences may have effect
on the signal stability an reliability. Such as:
- walls blocking or ecreasing signal strength
- objects or humans blocking or ecreasing signal strength
- weather influences on long istance
To prevent this from happening, make sure that the transmitter an receiver are able to ‘see’ each other
properly. This means that when pulling an imaginary straight line or wire from the transmitter antenna to the
receiver antenna, no objects, humans or walls shoul be able to block this line.
In case your controller or DMX fixture blocks the signal physically an the system is use on a large
istance, an extra XLR cable can be pulle in such a way that the transmitter an receiver establish a better
connection. As the weight of the transmitter an receiver is very limite , these coul be mounte to a lighting
stan , truss system or microphone stan with cable velcro strips, zip ties or similar.
In the most i eal situation, the transmitter an receiver coul be place up to 300 meters apart from each
other an still sen an receive DMX signals. But in practice, there will always be negative influences which
will ecrease signal strength an stability. Some will alter the reliability more than others.
Therefore it is important to think about your setup before setting up the wireless DMX system. When the
application is critical, the istance is quite long, the signal nee s to pass lots of objects or au ience an lots
of other 2.4 GHz equipment is present between the transmitter an receiver, you might nee to reconsi er if
this is the best solution.
Even though the best technologies have been use in or er to create the OSO W-D, nothing is more reliable
than a cable because it either works or oesn’t. Therefore the OSO W-D is the best solution for applications
where you wish to pull a cable, but where this is not possible because of angerous situations or impossible
positioning.
As every situation an application of every user is ifferent, Ayra can not ensure problem free operation,
because lots of unpre ictable influences may alter the reliability.
Using OSO W-D with DMX controllers
The OSO W-D works with nearly all kin s of DMX controllers, lighting consoles an even USB to DMX
interfaces. It also works with pro ucts sen ing less channels out than the stan ar 512. This means that also
192-channel, 12-channel or even 6-channel DMX controllers can be use together with the OSO W-D.
S are arts
This unit has no user-serviceable parts insi e. When any amage to components occur, contact your local
ealer or a specialise technician in or er to repair or replace the fixture.
Cleaning:
Clean the housing of the fixture frequently with a amp cloth, to remove ust an /or irt. The machine must
be coole own, turne off an remove from any power source when oing so.
WARNING: Always isconnect the fixture from your wall outlet or other power supply an let the fixture ry
before reconnecting it. This prevents possible electric shocks.
Check-u
To prevent angerous situations, make sure your fixture is in optimal con ition before using it. Check your
fixture frequently by using the following check list:
- All screws must be mounte tightly.
- Check all screws an metal parts for corrosion. No visible corrosion shoul be present.
- The exterior of your fixture must be in optimal con ition. Check your fixture for ents, cracks or missing
parts.
- The area in which the evice will be use or mounte must be in optimal con ition. Check this installation
spot for corrosion, cracks, ents an strength.
- Electrical components (connectors an cables) must be in optimal con ition. No form of amage (cuts,
expose wire cores or any other irregularities) shoul be visible.

- the transmitter an receiver are place in line without objects or humans blocking the shortest
possible signal ( rawing an imaginary straight line from the transmitter to the receiver)
- some signal isturbing sources are present nearby, such as phones from your au ience,
microphone systems on the same frequency an tablet computers or laptops.
Increasing the istance between transmitter an receiver may still result in a proper working system,
but the chance of signal isturbance will increase an is therefore not recommen e for critical
applications where signal rops can not take place. (For example in theatre environments)
Ayra chooses to inform the user about the theoretical max. operating istance as a reference, but
please be aware that similar i eal circumstances will usually never be present uring actual an
expecte use of the pro uct without signal rops. The recommen e operating istance provi es the
most optimal signal while still being useful an reliable.
