U3 HOPPER – TECHNICAL INFORMATION 1
1. INTRODUCTION
This manual contains the technical information of the U3 Hopper. The follo ing models are
included in this range of products:
- U3 Hopper ccTalk.
- U3 Hopper MDB.
The U3 Hopper is the result of development to incorporate ne security features for the most
demanding environments. This device is 100% compatible ith the previous U-II Hopper model
and maintains all its key features such as reliability, versatility, speed, accuracy and minimal
maintenance.
This document details all the features of this ne product, ith particular emphasis on its ne
benefits.
2. GENERAL DESCRIPTION
The U3 series rotating hopper is an intelligent mechanism designed for the return or pay-out of
a particular coin type. It orks in tandem ith another intelligent mechanism that controls it
(master) and the machine into hich it is integrated (gaming, vending, parking meters, etc.).
These Hoppers have a multicoin extraction system. The multicoin concept defines the ability of
these devices to return a round coin without holes hose outer dimensions are ithin the
specified diameter and thickness ranges. In other ords, the same Hopper model can be used
for different types of coins, although there can only be one type of coin inside.

2.1. CAPACITY OF THE U3 HOPPER
The quantity of coins that can be stored in the coin bo l of the hopper depends on the model.
There are 4 different models in the series that provide a range of coin capacities. There is also
the possibility to increase their capacity using supplements.

2.2. RANGE OF COINS
The multicoin extraction system of the U3 Hopper, guarantees the pay-out of round coins
without holes hose dimensions are ithin the range of diameter and thickness specified. The
range of coins accepted depends on the type of disk used.
Consult section 4.7 COIN EXTRACTOR DISK for more details.

Only EURO coin range has been tested. For other coin denominations please
contact the sales area manager or after sales department.
2.3. DETECTING FULLNESS AND EMPTINESS
The U3 Hopper has the option to incorporate detection mechanisms to detect the storage level
of the coins in the bo l.
•Option 1: Using infrared photocells system. There is the option to incorporate photocells
at the top and the bottom of the coin bo l. At the bottom, there are t o positions
available (See details in section 4.3 COIN LEVEL DETECTORS).

•Option 2: Using electromechanical or electronic scales. (See details in section 4.14.3
ELECTROMECHANIC SCALE, 4.14.4 SLAVE ELECTRONIC SCALE and 4.14.5 STANDALONE
CCTALK ELECTRONIC SCALE).
The only option to guarantee a reading of complete emptiness is using
the Electronic Scale

2.4. PAYOUT SPEED
The U3 Hopper pays out up to 6.3 coins per second. This speed varies ith the different disks
used.

2.5. COMMUNICATION PROTOCOL
The U3 Hopper orks ith ccTalk or MDB protocol, depending on the product reference. Consult
the manual “ccTalk Pro ocol - U3 Hopper”. For information about MDB protocol please contact
Azkoyen.
2.6. IN-LINE CONFIGURATION
T o hoppers can be configured in line ith one another to maximise the use of space.
