CAT-5 cable allows audio/video runs of up to 50 feet. Shown is buffered output 2 on a CT unit to the RJ-45
input on an AV40. The AV40 then converts the signal to RCA to go into a Ref 50 S2. The same type of connec-
tivity can be used in other audio/video equipment. Also shown is the Control Out (set to IR output on the Ref 50
S2) minijack connected to the minijack IR input on AV 40. The IR signal when then be sent through to the IR
flasher outputs on the CT Receiver.
The AV40 is a passive device that will send a standard composite video and analog audio signal as well as
infrared commands over a short distance using CAT-5 cable. This device is bi-directional and is typically
used with the CT 600.3/600.1/300.3 series to convert the RJ-45 buffered output to standard RCA out-
puts/3.5mm output to link audio, video and infrared control with other audio/video equipment.
1. Dual Box and Decora Chassis Configuration - The AV40 is shipped default as a floor box design (F)
for use on a shelf, mounting behind a rack or even next to the other audio / video equipment. The AV40
may be configured for use in a decora wall plate by removing the screws of the chassis and extracting the
decora module assembly.
2. Master Input - RJ45 CAT-5 input. The conversion module uses this input as the source of audio and
video that is to be converted back to RCA. Maximum length of CAT-5 run should be no longer than 50
feet.
3. IR Input—IR Inputs to control source from other audio/video equipment. Only one source emitter is
needed from the CT to the source because of the IR routing through the AV40.
4. Gold Plated RCA Output- RCA outputs to connect using other audio/video equipment. Gold connec-
tors promote minimum signal loss and degradation.
RJ-45 Input
The RJ-45 input takes the CAT-5 output from the CT 600.3/ 600.1/ 300.3 and con-
verts it to RCA. CAT-5 RJ45 pinouts use the T568B standard.

Connect the red (right audio), white (left audio) and yellow (composite video) to the
other audio/video equipment input.
IR Input
Connect the IR output from the other audio/video equipment to the IR input on the
AV40 breakout box. This allows for only one IR flasher needed on the face of the
source piece.

CAT5 Audio/Video Drive Pinout
CAT-5 RJ45 pinouts use the T568B standard.
See the figure at left. Each color twisted pair
carries the differential audio / video signal
with IR to the corresponding A/V output and
IR Input. For use with CAT-5 cable up to 50
feet. Use of other CAT5 connection standards
may result in increased crosstalk between
signals with associated audio and video
degradation.
Connection to a Home Theater Unit
For use of up to 50 feet of CAT-5 cable, the AV40 is a passive device and does not need to be powered.

If sending L/R audio and composite video for distances under 50 feet from a local zone to the CT
600.1/600.3/300.3 an AV40 can be used to transfer the signals via CAT-5 cable directly into one of the CT Re-
ceiver’s buffered RJ45 inputs. This can be a useful application of the AV40 when using distances under 50 feet.
