ISIS Main Displays for the FAA
ISIS Main Displays selected for the Console Reconfiguration and
Main Display Monitor Replacement (CRMR) Program
In 2002 Barco was selected by Lockheed Martin Transportation
& Security Solutions (LMTSS), Rockville, MD, USA, to deliver
ISIS 28-inch main displays for the Console Reconfiguration and
MDM Replacement Program (CRMR). The program involved the
replacement of approximately 1500 aging Sony DDM displays
in Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) en-route centers
across the US. Barco’s prompt deliveries in the program have
supported LMTSS in completing the FAA program milestones
ahead of schedule. By the end of 2005, all operational displays
were installed and in service.
Barco’s ISIS was chosen by LMTSS because of its high optical
quality, functional compatibility with the Sony DDM displays
and enhanced user comfort.
Barco’s ISIS flat panel main display was the obvious choice
because of its high image quality, low life cycle cost and
compatibility with the worldwide de facto ATC standard 20” x
20” square format at 2048 x 2048 resolution. Moreover, the four
MegaPixel ISIS flat panel main display can easily be integrated
into both new and existing controller working positions because
of its small mechanical form factor.

ISIS: 2K x 2K low life cycle cost display
Drawing on its long-standing expertise with Air Traffi c Management technology, Barco
has created ISIS, a true large screen 2Kx2K LCD main display for ATC controller working
positions. Since its introduction, ISIS has become the world’s leading square display
both in new installations and as a direct replacement for the Sony DDM CRT display.
Constantly updated with the latest technological advancements, ISIS is the number one
visualization solution for today’s and tomorrow’s Air Traffi c Control.
ISIS features the latest LCD panel technologies presenting an ergonomic, lightweight
solution for ATC controller workstation positions. Its high-bright screen presents more
detailed information, offers enhanced user comfort and counteracts eye-fatigue.
Moreover, ISIS displays have an extremely low life cycle cost: they do not need regular
adjustments and replacing their backlight tray is less expensive and time-consuming
than changing a traditional Cathode Ray Tube.
The display’s low weight, low power, small volume, high brightness and mechanical
fl exibility provide control center designers with a new degree of freedom to reduce
plant costs and improve operator comfort and performance.

The Console Reconfi guration and Main Display Monitor Replacement (CRMR)
Program provides for the replacement of the Sony Cathode Ray Tube (CRT)
Main Display Monitors (MDMs) with fl at panel displays, the installation of all
console hardware required for the national deployment of the User Request
Evaluation Tool (URET) program as well as the relocation of all the Voice
Switching Communication System (VSCS) equipment in accordance with a
critical national Professional Airway System Specialists (PASS) Memorandum
of Understanding (MOU).
