When the mains supply fails, these units initially provide 2 hours illumination
from a fully charged battery following a 16 hours charge. All models are
intended for connection to 240 V.A.C. +5% -10% 50Hz supply via an
unswitched active.
This model is manufactured to accept the BARDIC SENTINEL automatic
tester or BARDIC WiNET as an optional extra. The SENTINEL will
automatically test the single point units (SPU) every 91 days for operation
in the emergency condition (operation on battery) for a minimum duration
of 90 minutes. The results of the test, fail or pass is Indicated by flashing the
LED (mounted on the SPU) at Intervals:
• flash at 4 seconds on, 1 second off - Pass
• flash at 0.5 second on, 0.5 second off - fail
The SENTINEL test program can also be manually initiated. The SENTINEL
option is packed complete with instructions and plugs into the main printed
circuit board (PCB). For further information about BARDIC SENTINEL or
BARDIC WiNET, contact your local dealer or visit www.mpower.com.au.
PRODUCT SPECIFICATIONS
Nominal Voltage: 240V
Nominal Frequency: 50Hz
IP Rating: IP65
Rated Maximum Ambient Temperature: 40oC
Power Consumption: 12VA Maximum
IMPORTANT!
A faulty battery can place severe overloads upon electrical components
in the fitting therefore it is important that the faulty battery be replaced as
soon as possible.
FUNCTIONS
The unit is designed for connection to the mains supply via an unswitched
active, it comes complete with an automatic current and voltage regulated
charger, Nickel Cadmium battery and mains fail sensing capability. The
battery powers two 12 Volt 10W LED floodlights which are switched on
automatically when the A.C. supply fails and are switched off when:
1. The battery reaches low voltage cutout, or
2. When AC is restored, or 8 minutes after if the delay function is enabled.
This delay feature is to allow sufficient time for the general lighting to restart.
A RED light emitting diode (LED) charge monitor indicates a healthy mains
supply and functioning charger. A test switch to simulate a mains power
failure is included for testing an emergency operation when the mains
supply is healthy.
The LED floodlights are both powered by the 12 Volt battery but are parallel
connected to ensure independent operation if one lamp fails.
Note: The fitting is shipped with the 8mins delay option enabled by default.
Remove the jumper on the control board to deactivate this feature.
INSTALLATION
NOTE: If the BARDIC SENTINEL or BARDIC WI NET option is to be
fitted, check the installation instructions provided with that product before
proceeding further.
• Remove the screw securing the front panel and take off panel
• The mounting hole centres of the mounting slots located in the back of the
case are 330mm apart.
• Mark the wall in the desired mounting position keeping the mounting height
of the unit as high as possible above the floor.
• Drill and plug the mounting screw holes and fit a 38mm x No.8 dome head
screw in each hole allow 7mm of the shaft exposed
• Place the unit onto the mounting screws and fully tighten screws.
• Pass the mains leads through the cable entry hole provided and connect
the active lead to active (A) terminal, neutral lead to neutral (N) terminal and
the earth wire to the earth (E) terminal.
• One lead of the battery has been disconnected to prevent discharge while
in storage. Reconnect this lead.
• Write the date of installation on the battery label.
• Refit the front panel and switch on the A.C. mains supply.
WARNING: Do not touch the surface of the lamp with bare fingers!
COMMISSIONING
IMPORTANT! If the BARDIC SENTINEL or BARDIC WiNET has been fitted
to this spu, then follow their respective commissioning instructions.
1. Switch on mains supply. The charge monitor LEDs will illuminate and the
floodlights will turn on for approximately 8 minutes and then go off.
2. Depress the test switch to ensure the floodlights light up.
3. Release the test switch and note that the floodlights will remain illuminated
for 8 mins.
4. Allow the unit to operate for 16 hours to fully charge the battery after
which time the unit is ready for duty.
5. A 2 hour discharge test is required as part of the commissioning process
as per AS2293
MAINTENANCE
1. MONTHLY - inspect to ensure charge monitor is illuminated.
2. SIX MONTHLY (or at the discretion of the enforcing Authority) - isolate
the mains supply to unit and allow it to operate until the lamp extin-
guishes. Should the unit provide less than 90 minutes illumination be-
tween 10°c and 40°C ambient temperature following a 16 hour charge,
the unit is faulty and steps should be taken to rectify the fault.
3. TWELVE MONTHLY - Clean all light-emitting/ reflecting surfaces.
4. FIVE YEARS TEST - Check fitting runtime against L70 lifetime and
determine if it is still suitable for use.
NOTE: The 6 monthly test should be undertaken wherever possible at times
of least risk (e.g. during daylight hours). This is because of the possibility
of a failure of the normal lighting supply whilst the battery is discharged).
