1. Function and intended use
The MM 2500 is a battery-operated, mobile multimeter with a wide
range of measuring options, including diode test.
The device has the following use properties and features:
- AC and DC voltage measurement
- Direct current measurement
- Resistance measurement
- Diode test function
- Square wave test signal
- Hold function
- Low battery notification for signaling an exhausted battery
- Automatic polarity indicator, overload indicator
The safety instructions in this user manual are categorized as follows:

This instrument complies with overvoltage category III (300 V)
in accordance with EN 61010-1: 2010.
The area of application as per CAT III is the local level, i.e.
measurement in or on household appliances connected to a power
outlet. The multimeter intended for measuring AC and DC voltage up
to 300 V, direct current up to 10 A, resistance up to 2 MΩand diode
test under the conditions listed in Technical Data.
Using the product for purposes other than its intended use may result
in damage to persons and property and voids the warranty.
We accept no liability for damages resulting from failure to follow
the instructions for use and the user manual, which also voids the
warranty.
This measurement instrument was manufactured and tested
according to EN 61010-1: 2010: Safety requirements for electrical
equipment for measurement (overvoltage category III/300 V);
the manufacturer thus took all measures possible to prevent
accidents.
To guarantee safe operation, the following safety instructions must
befollowed:

reason to doubt proper operation, safety or connection of the device.
- Do not use the device if the housing, controls, connection cables or
the product itself are visibly damaged or if the device malfunctions.
In case of doubt, have the device checked by a professional or our

- The device is not a toy. Do not store or operate the device within the
reach of children.
- Do not leave packaging materials unattended. Plastic sheets/bags,
pieces of styrofoam, etc. may become a dangerous plaything in the
hands of children.
- Do not modify the device in any way.
- Exercise appropriate caution when working with voltage above
30 V AC eff. or 42 V DC as there is a risk of electric shock.

1. Funktion und bestimmungsgemäßer Einsatz
Das VA 16 ist ein batteriebetriebenes, mobiles Multimeter mit umfang-
reichen Messmöglichkeiten, darunter Batterietest und Netzwerk- und
Telefonkabeltest.
Es verfügt über folgende Gebrauchseigenschaften und Ausstattungen:
- Messung von Gleichspannungen und Wechselspannungen
- Messung von Gleich- und Wechselströmen
- Widerstandsmessung
- Dioden-Test-Funktion
- Durchgangsprüfung
- Kabeltest für Netzwerkkabel (RJ 45) und Telefonkabel (RJ 11)
- Batterietest für 1,5 - 6 - 9 V unter Belastung
- Hold-Funktion
- Lo-Bat-Anzeige zur Signalisierung einer erschöpften Batterie
- Automatische Polaritätsanzeige, Überlaufanzeige
- Display beleuchtbar
In dieser Anleitung sind die Sicherheitshinweise wie folgt einge-
stuft:

- Never apply voltage between the connections and/or between the
connection and ground wire that exceeds the multimeter’s nominal
voltage.
- Check the test leads for damaged insulation. Check the test lead’s
continuity, replace damaged test leads. Also check the test sockets’
insulation.
- Before use, test the device’s functionality by conducting a
measurement of a power source with a known voltage.
- Do not operate the device in the vicinity of explosive gases, vapor
or dust.
- Do not use the device if the battery compartment lid or other
components have been removed.
- To prevent incorrect measurements, which may result in electric
shock, replace the batteries as soon as the display shows the
battery symbol.
- First connect the test lead/test prod connected to the ground wire.
Remove test leads/test prods in the opposite order, i.e. first remove
the current-carrying test lead.
- Always keep your fingers behind the finger shield on the handle
when using the test leads. Never touch the test prods while
measuring!
- Use only the included test leads or test leads approved in
accordance with EN 61010-031:2015 CAT III (300 V) to operate the
device.
- Assume the lower measurement category when using the test
leads coupled with equipment of a different measurement
category.
- Using the device for purposes other than its intended use may
impair the device’s built-in protection.
Caution
- The device may not be kept at moist locations nor exposed to
precipitation, splashing water, dust or constant direct sunlight.
- Avoid strong mechanical loads, i.e. pressure or vibration.
- Clean the device with a dry linen cloth only. The cloth can be
slightly dampened to remove severe soiling. Do not use any
solventcontaining cleaning agents to clean the device. Do not let
any moisture enter the device interior.
- Operate the device with a battery, type NEDA 1604, 6F22, 006P,
only. Do not operate the device with another voltage, another
battery type or power source.

- Cut power to the circuit and discharge all capacitors before
measuring resistance and diodes.
- Remove the ground wire and the test prod from the measuring
object before manually changing the measurement range.
The logos and labels near the test sockets, test prods and on the
device back are intended to remind you that certain behavior is
necessary while conducting certain measurements. Some more
information on the subject:

Exercise extreme caution when conducting measurements
of hazardous contact voltages (> 42 V)!
Do not touch the test sockets and test prods!
To prevent electrical accidents and damage to the device,
never connect the test sockets to a power source greater
than 300 V DC/300 V AC to ground. Pay attention to the
maximum voltage of 300 V in the application area pursuant
to CAT III!

- Vor der Messung von Widerstand, Kontinuität (Durchgang), Dioden
den Strom des Stromkreises abschalten und alle Kondensatoren ent-
laden.
- Vor dem Anschluss von Netzwerk- bzw. Telefonkabeln an die entspre-
chenden RJ 11-/45-Buchsen alle Messleitungen aus den Multimeter-
Buchsen entfernen.
- Vor jedem Wechsel des Messbereichs sind Masseleitung und die
Messspitze vom Messobjekt zu entfernen.
Die Logos und Beschriftungen im Bereich der Messbuchsen, der Mess-
spitze und auf der Geräterückseite sollen Sie daran erinnern, dass Sie bei
bestimmten Messungen auch bestimmte Verhaltensmaßregeln beachten
sollten. Hier einige Erläuterungen dazu:

Besondere Vorsicht bei Messungen an berührungs-
gefährlichen Spannungen (>42 V) ! Nicht die Messbuchsen
und Messspitzen berühren!
Um elektrische Unfälle und einen Schaden für das Gerät zu
vermeiden, schließen Sie diese Messbuchsen nie an eine
Spannungsquelle größer 1000 V DC/700 V AC gegen Masse
(Erde) an. Im Einsatzbereich nach CAT III die maximale
Spannung von 600 V beachten!
