AUTO RANGING DIGITAL MULTIMETER
VAR thanks you for purchasing DV-71600 specially designed for electrical values
measuring.
Please read this manual carefully before each use.
Recommendations
DV-71600 is a precision tool that has to be used and stored with care, avoiding
shocks, falls and mistreatments.
VAR DV-71600 multimeter complies with CE, IEC/EN 61010-1, CAT II 600V standards,
double insulation. For your safety, follow the instruction specified in this operating
manual. Do not use it if insulation is damaged or removed. Do not use the multimeter
if test leads are damaged or not correctly insulated. An electrical shock may occur.
Replace the battery as soon as the indicator appears. With a low battery, the
multimeter might produce false readings. Do not apply more that the rated voltage.
Do not change the measuring range during the testing, it might damage the
multimeter. Disconnect the test leads before changing the kind of measurement. Do
not use or store the multimeter in an environment with humidity or high temperature.
Carefully avoid abrasive and solvent to clean the multimeter.

Maintenance
Before replacing the battery, remove the test leads and switch off the multimeter.
Take off the screw on the battery cover.
Battery specifications :
- 9V, type 6LR61
To replace the fuse, take off the screws on the back of the multimeter.
Fuse specifications :
-
F1 Ø5x20mm, F 0.5A H 250V
- F2 Ø5x20mm, F 10A H 250V
Modes
1. HOLD button : press the button to enable or disable hold mode in any mode,
except frequency measurement.
2 SELECT button : press the button to select the alternate functions including
AC/DC voltage, AC/DC current, auto and manual ranging, frequency and duty cycle.
3. Auto power off : the multimeter automatically goes into a sleep mode if you
do not press any button for around 15 minutes. When the multimeter will power off in 1
minute, the buzzer beeps 5 times. Before power off, there will be a long time buzzer
beep.
4. Measurement : turn rotary switch to choose the measuring position. If the
battery is too low, a sign is displayed.
Voltage
In each range, the multimeter DV-71600 has an
input impedance of 10MΩ. This loading effect can
cause measurement errors in high impedance
circuits. If the circuit impedance is less or equal to
10kΩ, the error is negligible (0.1% or less).
Press SELECT to switch AC or DC voltage. The
display value of AC measurement is effective
value of sine wave (average value).
The 400mV AC range is enabled in manual mode
only.
To avoid possibly damages to the multimeter,
please do not attempt to input higher than 500V.
To avoid electrical shock, please pay attention
during high voltage measurement.

Current
Press SELECT to switch AC or DC current
measurement. Select the correct terminal input
and turn the rotary switch to select the measuring
function. In case of you have no idea on the input
current value, choose the highest mode.
For safety purpose, in case of any measurement
higher than 5A, wait at least 15 minutes before any
new current measurement.
Resistance
The LCD displays "OL" when the value is higher
than the measuring range of the multimeter. To
maintain the measurement accuracy, disconnect
circuit from power and discharge all the high
voltage capacitors.
The test leads cause 0.1Ω~ 0.2Ωresistance. To
obtain precision readings in low-resistance
measurements, make a short circuit with the 2 test
leads and note the value shown on the LCD. Then,
deduct this value on the measured resistance.
Several seconds are needed to get stable value
for resistances > 1MΩ.
Diode
Disconnect circuit from power and discharge all
the high voltage capacitors.
Place a test lead between COM and the
component’s anode. Connect the other test lead
on the cathode.
A good diode should still produce a voltage of
500~800mV.
The LCD displays "OL" indicating open-circuit for
the tested diodes or the testing the diodes with
polarity.
A voltage of 1.5V opens the diode.
5/6

Continuity measurement
Disconnect circuit from power and discharge all
the high voltage capacitors.
Place the test leads on the circuit to test. If circuit
is opened, buzzer doesn’t produce any beep. If
circuit is continuous, buzzer makes a beep.
Frequency
Connect the test leads across with the object
being measured.
If you need to measure a duty cycle, press SELECT
to choose %.
For frequency under or equal to 100kHz, input
amplitude is 300mV. For frequency higher than
100kHz, input amplitude is 600mV.
