Safety Instructions
1. T e lamp becomes extremely ot
during operation. Allow t e projec-
tor to cool for approximately 45
minutes prior to removing t e lamp
assembly for replacement.
2. Do not operate lamps beyond t e
rated lamp life. Excessive operation
of lamps beyond t e rated life could
cause t em to explode on rare occa-
sions.
3. Never replace t e lamp assembly or
any electronic components unless
t e projector is unplugged.
4. Do not place t is product on an
unstable cart, stand, or table. T e
product may fall, sustaining serious
damage.
5. To reduce t e risk of electric s ock,
do not disassemble t is appliance.
Take it to a qualified tec nician
w en service or repair is required.
Incorrect reassembly can cause
cause malfunction of t e projector
or electric s ock w en t e appliance
is subsequently used.
6. T is product is capable of displaying
inverted images for ceiling mount
installation. Please use BenQ’s Ceil-
ing Mounting Kit for mounting t e
unit and ensure it is securely
installed.

7. Do not block t e ventilation oles.
- Do not place t is unit on a blanket,
bedding or any ot er soft surface.
- Do not cover t is unit wit a clot or any
ot er item.
- Do not place inflammables near t e
projector.
If t e ventilation oles are seriously
obstructed, over eating inside t e unit
may result in a fire.
8. Do not place t is unit in any of t e
following environments.
- Space t at is poorly ventilated or
confined. Allow at least 50 cm clearance
from walls and free flow of air around
t e projector.
- Locations w ere temperatures may
become excessively ig , suc as t e
inside of a car wit all windows rolled
up.
- Locations w ere excessive umidity,
dust, or cigarette smoke may
contaminate optical components,
s ortening t e projector’s life span and
darkening t e image.
- Locations near fire alarms
- Locations wit an ambient temperature
above 35°C / 95°F
9. Always place t e unit on a level, ori-
zontal surface during operation.
- Do not use if tilted at an angle of more
t an 10 degrees left to rig t, nor at angle
of more t an 15 degrees front to back.
Using t e unit w en it is not fully
orizontal may cause a malfunction of,
or damage to, t e lamp.
10. Do not stand t e unit on end verti-
cally.
Doing so may cause t e unit to fall over,
causing injury or resulting in damage to
t e unit.
11. Do not step on t is unit or place any
objects upon it.
Besides probable p ysical damage to t e
unit, doing so may result in accidents
and possible injury.

Remote Control Effective Range
Infra Red (IR) remote control sensors are located on t e front and t e back of t e projector.
T e remote control must be eld at an angle wit in 30 degrees of t e projector’s IR remote
control sensors to function correctly. T e distance between t e remote control and t e sen-
sors s ould not exceed 6 meters (19.5 feet).

Installing or Replacing t e Batteries
Avoid excessive heat and humidity. There may be danger of an explosion if the batteries are
incorrectly replaced. Replace only with the same or equivalent type recommended by the
manufacturer. Dispose of the used batteries according to the manufacturer’s instructions.

C oosing a Location
Your projector is designed to be installed in t e four installation configurations s own ere:
Floor front, Ceiling front, Floor rear, Ceiling rear. Your room layout or personal preference
will dictate w ic installation configuration you use.
For furt er information on t e four configurations, please refer to page 29.
If you place t e projector above or below t e screen, you ave to tile it down or up to center
t e image on t e screen, in t ese situations image distortion will occur. Use t e Keystone
function to correct t e distortion. See page 19 for keystone correction.
Making Connections
W en connecting a signal source to t e projector, be sure to:
1. Turn all equipment off before making any connections.
2. Use t e correct signal cables for eac source.
3. Ensure t e cables are firmly inserted.

Connecting to a Laptop or Desktop Computer
A Mac adapter (an optional accessory) may be necessary needed if you are connecting to an
older Macintosh computers.
The USB cable is required if you intend using mouse functions on the remote control.
Connecting Equipment to t e Component Video Input
T e projector is capable of displaying various Hig Definition TV display modes. Some of
t ese sources are:
Most of t ese sources will provide an analog component video output, a standard VGA out-
put, or a YPbPr (default) format.
T e projector is capable of accepting HDTV data t roug a Component Video connector.
Use a Component Video cable t at came wit your projector to display t ese images.

Connecting to Video or S-Video Devices
If the selected video image is not displayed after the projector is turned on and the correct
video source has been selected, check that the video source is turned on and operating cor
rectly. Also check that the signal cables have been connected correctly.
Connecting to Display Devices
If you want to monitor your presentation close-up on a monitor as well as on t e screen, you
can connect t e RGB signal output port on t e projector to an external monitor wit a VGA
cable or D-Sub - DVI-I cable.
