Product description
Identification
IDRA DS,solar storage cylinders are double coil units
of 300, 400, 500, 1000, 1500, 2000 and 3000 litres in
capacity, and are specifically designed for integration in
domestic hot water production systems heated by SC-B
06 solar collectors.
The most important technical features of these storage
cylinders are:
- The cylinder and coils are specially designed and sha-
ped for optimum performance in terms of stratification,
heat exchange and replenishment times.
- The cylinder lining is bacteriologically inert for maxi-
mum hygiene, reduced lime scale deposits and easy
cleaning.
- Water fittings are available at different heights, permit-
ting different hot water generators to be used without
reducing stratification effect.
- CFC-free polyurethane insulation and an elegant exter-
nal coating reduce heat loss and improve efficiency.
- A flange is provided for easy cleaning and maintenan-
ce and a magnesium anode is provided to prevent
corrosion.
IDRA DS storage cylinders can be connected to a
special solar controller and can be integrated in solar
heating systems in which boilers or water heaters serve
as auxiliary heat generators.
IDRA DS solar storage cylinders are identified by two plates:
b If these plates or any other means of clearly identifying the product are defaced,
removed or lost, proper installation and servicing may be rendered difficult.
– Data plate
This lists the technical specifications and performance of the product.
– Product identification plate
This bears the name of the product.
– Serial number plate

Typical installation schematic
b
If the water supply is unsoftened, avoid setting
the maximum temperature of the storage cylinder
above 60°C, since higher temperatures can lead to
the formation of more lime scale and consequently
poorer thermal exchange efficiency.
b
Make sure that the storage cylinder is full of water
before starting up the solar heating system.
b
If the storage cylinder is installed in systems that
operate at pressures in excess of 4 bar, fit a pres-
sure reducer.
b
Take care when opening the solar heating circuit’s
vent valve. Risk of burns!
b
Make sure that the expansion vessel is able to with-
stand high temperatures and that its membrane is
resistant to the water-glycol mix.
b
The domestic hot water system MUST INCLUDE
an expansion vessel, safety valve, automatic vent
valve and storage cylinder drain cock.
b
The safety valve must be connected to a suitable
collection and drain system. The manufacturer
declines all responsibility for damage caused by
water escaping from the safety valve.
b Use a thermostatic mixer valve (19) to limit the
domestic hot water outlet temperature.
b
If the pressure in the solar heating circuit drops, do
NOT top up with water but use the proper water-
glycol mix. Risk of freezing!
b
All piping, collectors, heat exchangers and other
devices in the circuit must be subjected to proper
hydraulic seal testing.
b
The choice of system components and the method
of their installation are left up to the installer.
Installers must use their expertise to ensure proper
installation and functioning in compliance with all
applicable legislation.
