The B-Unit 5 is a device designed to ensure the identity
of a Bloomberg Anywhere user and provide secure
access when logging on to the Bloomberg Terminal.
®
Each B-Unit 5 is registered to a particular Bloomberg
Anywhere user’s account. Logging in consists of
activating the device with a valid finger scan and getting
a session ID from the Terminal display using Bloomberg’s
Screen-Sync technology to create a unique login code.
• The B-Unit 5 is a compact portable device.
• The B-Unit 5 can be used with both locally
with both locally installed Bloomberg Terminals
and Bloomberg Anywhere Terminals.
• The integrated biometric sensor ensures that
only the registered Bloomberg user can log in.
• The B-Unit 5 OLED screen displays login
status information.
• During the Screen-Sync operation, the B-Unit 5
receives data via an integrated light sensor.
• The B-Unit 5 has an expected life of 2+ years.
• The B-Unit 5 can be recharged via the
Bloomberg Keyboard 4, Bloomberg Keyboard 5,
or standard micro USB adapter.
• The B-Unit 5 stores authentication details securely.

Enrolling your B-Unit 5
B-Unit 5 setup & use
Before using the B-Unit 5, you must register the device with your account
and enroll your finger with the device. If you want to re-enroll the B-Unit 5
with another finger, please contact Bloomberg technical support.
1. Enter your username and password and press <GO>.
2. Check that you have read and agree to the Privacy Notice
and click “Get Started.”
3. If you are already a Bloomberg user, log in and run BA <GO>.
New users, open the Bloomberg Terminal application and
press <GO> to bring up the login screen.
4. Enter your username and password and click “Next.”
5. Enter the eight-digit serial number located on the back
of the B-Unit 5 device and click “Next.”

6. Power on the B-Unit by pressing the power button. The B-Unit will either show
“Ready to Sync” or “Place finger to Verify.” Select the correct option on the
Bloomberg Terminal screen and click “Next.”
7. If you selected “Place finger to Verify,” you will be directed to place your
B-Unit into enrollment mode by pressing the power button 3 times,
otherwise proceed to the next step.

8. You will be directed to a flashing screen.
Note: The screen will continue to flash until you have completed the enrollment process.
10. When ready, the B-Unit 5 will display “Place Finger to Enroll.” Select a finger
to use with the B-Unit 5. Place your finger on the biometric sensor with the
center of the pad of your fingertip on the center of the biometric sensor.
9. Hold the B-Unit 5 up to the flashing area on the screen, lining up the B-Unit 5
Screen-Sync Sensor with the on-screen graphic. If the B-Unit 5 displays shows
“Move closer to the monitor,” you may need to move the B-Unit 5 closer to the
monitor or make sure the B-Unit 5 is aligned to the B-Unit on-screen graphic.
The B-Unit 5 display will show a progress bar indicating that data is being received.
11. When prompted, lift and place your finger.
Note: Each time you are prompted to remove and replace your finger you should adjust
your finger placement slightly from the first position, enabling the sensor to scan an area
of your finger that overlaps what was already scanned and an area it has not yet scanned.

Logging in
Once you have enrolled and registered your B-Unit 5, you can use the B-Unit 5
to log in.
• Bloomberg Terminal — Press the <GO> key to bring up
the login screen.
• Bloomberg Anywhere — Go to https://bba.bloomberg.net in a web browser.
• Bloomberg Anywhere for iPhone, iPad or Android — open the Bloomberg
Professional app.
1. Enter your username and password on the login screen and press <GO>.
2. Turn on your B-Unit 5 by pressing the power button. The display shows
“Bloomberg” then “Place finger to verify.”

12. If enrollment is successful, a four-character code appears on the B-Unit 5
display. If you were not able to enroll, repeat steps 6-9.
13. Enter the four-character code into the text field on the Bloomberg Professional
Screen, then click “Finish.” You will see an “Enrollment Successful” screen
and be prompted to log in.

3. Place the finger that you enrolled on the biometric sensor with the center
of the pad of your fingertip on the center of the biometric sensor.
4. If verification is successful, you will see the screen-sync progress bar
on the B-Unit 5 Display. Hold the B-Unit 5 up to the flashing area on
the screen, lining up the Screen-Sync Sensor with the on-screen graphic.
If the B-Unit 5 display shows “Move closer to the monitor,” you may need to
move the B-Unit 5 closer to the monitor or make sure the B-Unit 5 is aligned
with the B-Unit 5 on-screen graphic. The B-Unit 5 progress bar indicates that
data is being received.
5. When screen-sync completes, a four-character code appears
on the B-Unit 5 display.
6. In the Bloomberg Terminal application, enter the four-character code
into the “B-Unit Code” text field and press <GO> to log into your account.
Retrieving a token code
When accessing some Bloomberg services you may be asked to provide
a token code.
1. Turn on your B-Unit 5 by pressing the power button. The display shows
“Bloomberg” then “Place finger to verify.”

2. Place the finger that you enrolled on the biometric sensor with the center
of the pad of your fingertip on the center of the biometric sensor.
3. If verification is successful, the token code will be displayed on the B-Unit.
4. Enter this code into the text box provided.
Power down
The B-Unit 5 turns itself o after inactivity. To manually power down
the B-Unit 5, press and hold the power button for 3 seconds.
Battery level and charging the B-Unit
The B-Unit 5 will indicate its battery level in the upper right corner
of the display when it is powered on. There are 4 levels indicated:
Full
Good
Low
Empty
The B-Unit 5 can be charged at any time using a Micro-USB cable or by
inserting the B-Unit into the B-Unit dock on a Bloomberg Keyboard 4
or Bloomberg Keyboard 5.

• Do not incinerate or expose B-Unit 5 to temperatures in excess of 140°F/60°C.
• Do not place the battery in or near fire, on the stove or other high temperature locations,
or inside cars in hot weather.
• Do not open, puncture, crush, disassemble or subject B-Unit 5 to physical abuse.
• B-Unit 5 contains a lithium battery. If exposed to abusive conditions, the battery may
get hot, explode or ignite and cause serious injury. Do not attempt to remove, replace
or recharge the battery.
• Immediately discontinue use and contact Bloomberg if B-Unit 5 emits an unusual smell,
changes color or shape, or appears abnormal in any other way.
! PHOTOSENSITIVE SEIZURE WARNING !
• A small number of people may experience a seizure when exposed to certain visual images,
such as a flashing light. Even people who have no history of seizures or epilepsy may have
an undiagnosed condition that can cause these seizures.
• These seizures may have a variety of symptoms, including lightheadedness, altered vision,
shaking, eye or face twitching, disorientation, confusion or convulsions. If you experience any
of these symptoms while using your B-Unit 5, immediately stop using it and consult a doctor.
