The pleasure you get from driving a BMW is the result of fine engineering – always setting the benchmark because it is based on much more than engine power. This is the tradition behind
BMW EfficientDynamics. It includes the visionar y Hydrogen engine, already used in a number of completely emission-free BMW Hydrogen 7 vehicles, and BMW ActiveHybrid
– an intelligent,
demand-oriented combination of internal combustion engine and electric motor. And every BMW already includes a multi-award winning
BMW EfficientDynamics technology package as
standard that boosts dynamics even further whilst simultaneously reducing fuel consumption and CO2 emissions.
High Precision Injection
In this cutting-edge generation of petrol direct
injection, the Piezo injectors are positioned very
close to the spark plugs. They inject the fuel at
high pressure and with extreme precision. The
injectors’ central positioning means only part of
the combustion chamber needs to be filled with
an ignitable petrol-air mixture. This enables
efficient, “lean” engine operation, especially in
the heavily used part-throttle range.
Air vent control
Engine management signals the engine’s
cooling requirements while driving, rendering
a permanent airstream through the radiator
unnecessary. The air vents in front of the radiator
open or close depending on the environmental
temperature and road speed. When shut they
improve aerodynamics, shorten the engine’s
warm-up time and so reduce fuel consumption.
Brake Energy Regeneration
To supply a battery with electrical energy, the generator (alternator) is
permanently driven using engine power, which demands additional fuel
consumption. Brake Energy Regeneration means the generator usually
only generates electricity when the driver either takes the foot off
the accelerator or brakes – previously unused kinetic energy is
transformed in coasting mode into electrical energy before being fed
into the battery. In this way, electricity is generated while coasting,
without consuming fuel.
Valvetronic
Valve lift control is fully variable in engines with Valvetronic. The result is
improved engine response and smoother running, as well as a significant
drop in fuel consumption.
Optimum Shift Indicator
Timely gear shifts are one of the most effective and easiest ways to
save fuel. This is where Optimum Shift Indicator in conjunction with
6-speed manual transmission comes in. It shows the driver what gear
to use in order to save fuel.

sWhite direction indicators are an attractive
detail, adding to the sporting appearance of the
BMW 6 Series.
sSide indicator lights at the front lend the
profile a note of individuality.
sBrake Force Display helps following drivers
to judge your braking situation. Under light
braking, the lower three rows of LEDs in the rear
light units illuminate in red, along with the light
guide strips of the rear lights. In an emergency
stop, the upper two rows of LEDs also illuminate,
generating an especially bright braking light.
sFog lights built into the front air dam,
improving safety in poor visibility conditions.
Ellipsoid freeform technology enables very
even illumination of the road.
sXenon Headlights for high and low beam, with automatic headlight range control, significantly
improve road illumination at night, in bad weather or poor visibility. In combination with the optional
Adaptive Headlights with variable light distribution, they illuminate bends via electro-
mechanical movement of the headlights when the driver turns the steering wheel.
oHigh-beam assistant aids the driver at night by automatically dimming the headlights for
oncoming traffic, when approaching vehicles up ahead, and in the presence of sufficient street
lighting.
sHeadlight washing system for optimal
illumination of the road in all weather conditions.
Headlights are automatically cleaned in parallel
with the windscreen when the lights are on.
sDoor handles in body colour.
oSoft Close Automatic system gently closes
bothdoors,usinganelectricmotorfor the lastsix
millimetres.

oHigh-gloss Shadow Line. In the BMW 6
Series Coupé, this option adds a high-gloss
Black finish to the front and rear side window
frames as well as the window recess finishers,
the windscreen washer jets and the mirror base
and mirror triangle. In the BMW 6 Series
Convertible, it enhances the window recess
finishers, the windscreen washer jets and the
mirror base and mirror triangle.
oGlass roof, with electrically operated lift
function and sun shade, and comfort opening /
closing via tip keys.

630i and 635d).

sController, the core element of iDrive
(for driver and front passenger), is a rotary/push
button for managing a multitude of functions
via the Control Display. The direct menu control
buttons open the main menu for the CD, radio,
navigation system* and telephone; the tactile
design ensures each key can be identified
through touch alone.
oM leather steering wheel, rim designed for
optimal grip, three spokes, with multifunction;
the driver can operate radio, CD player and
telephone (optional) via integrated buttons –
keeping both hands safely on the steering
wheel.
sControl Display with 6.5-inch colour
display. Displays functions selected via the
Controller (e.g. on-board computer or radio).
Screen size is 8.8-inch in combination with
the Navigation system Professional*.

sFunctional bookmarks: Each button can be programmed to instantly activate any
commonly-used function of the navigation, audio or telephone systems, (e.g. a radio station or a
CD title), enabling the driver and front passenger to access eight favourite functions with ease.

oTV function enables the use of the 8.8-inch
Control Display for viewing terrestrial analogue
and digital television programmes (DVB-T)
when the car is stationary.
oPark Distance Control (PDC), front and
rear, aids parking and manoeuvring in tight
spaces. The proximity of obstacles is indicated
acoustically and visually in the Control Display.
oBMW Night Vision uses an infrared camera
to detect people and animals beyond the scope
of the headlights at a distance of up to 300
metres. The camera’s image appears in the
Control Display, enabling you to avoid danger in
good time on poorly lit roads.
sRadio BMW Business, 6-channel amplifier,
aerial diversity, scan function, CD player.
oRadio BMW Professional, features as radio
BMW Business plus dual-tuner reception and
MP3 decoder.
oDAB tuner for receiving digital radio
programmes.

oHiFi system Professional LOGIC7
provides an enormously rich, intense acoustic
experience, with 13 loudspeakers (11 in the
Convertible) creating a near-perfect listening
experience. The central bass concept allows
for highly authentic reproduction of bass
frequencies via sill-mounted subwoofers.
oBMW Individual High-End Audio System
(shown here) features 16 extraordinary high-
performance speakers (12 in the Convertible)
with exclusive neodymium magnet drivers that
create an acoustic experience comparable to
a live concert. Volume and equaliser settings
adjust automatically to the vehicle speed.

sDriving Dynamic Control (Sports mode),
at the touch of a button, engine response to the
accelerator becomes even more spontaneous.
In addition, power steering support is reduced
to provide improved road feedback. In models
with sports automatic transmission Steptronic
shift times are shorter and up-shifting is delayed
for a more sporty driving style.
oActive Cruise Control with Stop&Go
function. Driver assistance system for increased
comfort and active safety especially when
driving in slow-moving traffic. Combines Cruise
Control with active safe distance control in
bumper-to-bumper driving, with stopping and
automatic restart in typical “stop and go”
situations.
oHead-up Display projects important
information such as current speed directly in
the driver’s field of vision. Direction arrows from
the navigation system, Active Cruise Control
functions and Check Control data can also be
displayed.
sCruise Control with braking function
stores, displays and maintains any selected
speed above approx. 30 km/h, even when going
downhill (activated by left-hand control stalk
on the steering column). After accelerating, the
pre-selected speed is automatically resumed.
sInfo Display with precise, anti-glare
analogue instruments. Information such as
time, exterior temperature and trip mileage
can be selected at any time on LC displays in
the instrument panel.

oThe Lane Departure Warning system
uses a camera to monitor when the vehicle is
approaching lane markings, and immediately
warns the driver via a steering wheel vibration.
The system is designed for country roads and
motorways, and is switched on and off with a
button in the multifunction steering wheel.
s6-speed manual transmission for a very
sporty drive. Smooth, with perfect ratios and
precise, short-throw gearshifts. The tight
spacing of gear ratios means that you can
make even more individual use of the engine
power provided.
o6-speed sports automatic transmission
Steptronic offers a particularly sporting
transmission character with faster gearshifts
for an even more dynamic driving experience;
gearshift paddles are mounted on the sports
leather steering wheel (standard for the 635d).

adjustment and memory function for driver’s
seat (shown above in the BMW 6 Series
Convertible with Exclusive Pearl leather
upholstery) with fore/aft, seat height, backrest
and seat angle adjustment.

side bolsters ensure optimal lateral support in
all driving conditions. Electric adjustment of

Seat surface and backrest are heated and
quickly radiate comfortable warmth (standard
on 650i).

exterior mirrors and steering column as well as
automatic parking function for passenger-side
exterior mirror.

sound seating position and added back muscle

belt catches, two three-point belts and head
restraints (incl. ISOFIX child seat fastening

sRain sensor, incl. automatic driving lights
control. When activated, the rain sensor
engages windscreen wipers automatically and
controls their frequency. Headlights are
switched on automatically at low beam when it
starts getting dark.
sInterior mirror with automatic anti-glare
function. Automatically dims when exposed to
more than a given light intensity from following
cars.
oInterior and exterior mirrors with
automatic anti-glare function and exterior
mirrors with fold-in function.
oGarage door opener for additional comfort.
The self-learning remote control enables you
to open and close your garage door or driveway
gate directly from the car.
sFront armrest, two height positions,
including storage bin (shown here) for small
items. (Storage bin located under telephone
unit when combined with mobile phone
preparation).
oMobile phone preparation with Bluetooth
interface (incl. hands-free facility, charger
connection and aerial). A Bluetooth-compatible
phone can be connected using a snap-in
adapter (separately available), allowing control
via the multifunction steering wheel and voice
control system. Your local BMW partner will be
happy to advise on recommended telephones.
oCupholder (front), can be removed and
stored in the rear centre console storage bin.

vehicle doors without the need to handle the
remote control. Simply keep the ignition key

Coupé depicted above), fully lined and easily
accessible. Offers space for two 46-inch golf
bags and further baggage, incl. four lashing
eyelets. Side bins for safe storage of smaller

exterior mirrors, entry strips with illuminated
BMW logo, map compartment light and
illuminated door handles.

sSoft top compartment, variable: can be
effortlessly raised or lowered with one hand
using the integrated swivel handle. The
advantage: a special folding mechanism folds
the soft top compartment flat, for optimisation
of luggage compartment volume. When
lowered, the compartment stores the soft top.
sLuggage compartment, fully lined
with textile lining, with integrated soft top
compartment (lowered).
sLuggage compartment, open, with soft-
top compartment raised: When the soft-top
is closed the soft-top compartment is not
required and can be easily moved forwards
and raised with one hand. The spacious and
easily-accessible boot is thus fully available
for luggage.

sFully-automatic roof operation: the open/
close function occurs automatically at the
touch of a button (when vehicle is stationary).
The vertical rear window can be retracted
independently of the soft top. The soft top can
also be opened comfortably via the radio
remote control.
sFin roof, fully-automatic. Sets unprecedented
standards in weather and noise insulation. In
connection with the retractable rear window, it
offers very effective ventilation of the vehicle
interior. When closed, it gives the convertible
a typical coupé-like silhouette; when opened,
it is stowed in the soft top compartment fitted in
the luggage compartment. Available in grey or
black.
sComfort entry: seat backs are released
easily with one hand. The whole seat then
glides forwards for effortless entry and exit.
sSeat-integrated belt system for the
BMW 6 Series Convertible provides optimal
passenger protection and ideal seatbelt
ergonomics in every position.
oWind deflector makes open-top driving
more pleasurable by reducing irritating drafts
and annoying isolated turbulence in the
shoulder and neck region. The wind deflector
is easy to operate and can be stowed away
compactly in the luggage compartment.
sGlass rear window, vertically retractable,
can be raised and lowered independently of the
soft top. When the roof is closed and the rear
window is lowered, the interior is effectively
ventilated for a pleasant climate. When the roof
is open, the raised rear window improves the
comfort of rear seat passengers.

oSki bag enables up to two pairs of skis or
one snowboard to be transported even when
every seat is occupied. When not needed, the
ski bag is stored in the backrest, out of sight.

bonnet and the large 19-inch BMW double-
spoke 288 light-alloy wheels with mixed tyres
emphasise the sporting character of the
BMW 6 Series Coupé and Convertible. This
arresting appearance is perfectly accentuated
by the low-set M sports suspension and the
Individual Shadow Line, high-gloss. Exclusive
to the sports package: Imola Red and Carbon
Black, both BMW M paint finishes, plus five
other choices of exterior colours. Inside the
cabin, sports seats in Dakota leather, the
M leather steering wheel and the brushed
Aluminium interior trim create a dynamic
atmosphere. The roofliner Anthracite and
the lights package complete this exclusive
ensemble.

Sports seats for driver and front passenger
with memory function for driver’s seat
feature pronounced side bolsters for excellent
lateral support in every driving situation; seat
height, cushion angle, backrest angle and
fore-and-aft position are all individually power-
adjustable. The thigh support is manually
adjustable. Lumbar support is standard in
connection with the M leather steering wheel,
the perfect combination of dynamics and
comfort.
Exhaust tailpipes in dark chrome for an even
more assertive sporting character. The BMW
650i Coupé and Convertible are also equipped
with an exhaust system distinguished by a
unique sound.
