Electric Power Steering
Unlike conventional, hydraulic steering systems,
the electrical steering only uses energy while
steering is actually taking place. When the
steering wheel position is constant – for example
at high speed along the motorway – the electric
motor is inactive.
BMW TwinPower Turbo technology
This innovative exhaust gas turbo charger
effi ciently recaptures the energy present
in exhaust through the use of two chargers
(Z4 3 5 i and Z4 sDrive3 5 is).
Optimum Shift Indicator
Timely gear shifts are one of the most effective
and easiest ways to save fuel. This is where the
Optimum Shift Indicator in conjunction with six-
speed manual transmission comes in. It shows
the driver what gear to use in order to drive more
effi ciently.
Brake Energy Regeneration
To supply a battery with electrical energy,
the generator (alternator) is permanently
driven using engine power, which demands
additional fuel consumption. Brake Energy
Regeneration means the generator usually
only generates electricity when the driver
either takes their foot off the accelerator or
the brake – previously
unused kinetic energy
is transformed in coasting
mode into electrical
energy before being fed into the battery.
In this way, electricity is generated while
coasting, without consuming fuel.
Tyres with reduced rolling-resistance
While driving, tyres are constantly changing
shape. This uses up energy and thus fuel.
Tyres with reduced rolling-resistance have an
improved design and use special materials for
their road treads and side walls, thus reducing
deformation.
Lightweight construction
Our engineers use aluminium where lighter
materials are more expedient, for instance in
the front section or for the suspension, in the
bonnet and in the hardtop. The six-cylinder
in-line petrol engine, for instance, is composed
of aluminium and magnesium. Making these
engines the lightest in their class. These weight
savings lead to lower fuel consumption and
better axle load distribution, for more agility,
especially in bends.
Some BMW EfficientDynamics features are dependent
on the car’s equipment and are not available for all model
variants. Your BMW Partner will be happy to provide you
with information on all equipment details.

Xenon Headlights for high and low beam, incl. four light rings used as daytime running lights and automatic headlight range control, for optimal
illumination of the road ahead at night and when visibility is poor.
Adaptive Headlights with variable light distribution use electro-mechanical control of the moving headlights to provide optimum
illumination through corners as soon as the driver turns into the bend. In addition, variable light distribution is a standard feature of this equipment
package and will illuminate a wider or narrower section of the road depending on your speed.
High-beam assistantsupportsthedriveratnightbyautomaticallyswitchingtolowbeamwhenthereisoncomingtraffi coranothercarahead,

Headlight washing system.
Exterior mirror package with mirrors that can
be folded in automatically using the integrated

function. Automatically dims when light from

Lights Package encompasses door exit
lights, handle-area illumination, which illuminates

are unlocked, for added convenience in the dark.

ambient lighting, reading lights, footwell lighting.
Retractable hardtop can be quickly opened
at the touch of a button (opens and closes only
when vehicle is stationary).
Wind deflector lets you enjoy open-top
driving without annoying drafts and turbulence

Dynamic Driving Control allows you to easily switch between the Normal, Sport or Sport Plus
driving modes. For sporty drivers, this option allows you to sharpen all the vehicle’s responses. The
system encompasses direct feedback from the steering system, control maps for the accelerator
and dynamic gearshift on the optional automatic transmissions. Additionally, at the push of a
button (DSC off) you can deactivate Dynamic Stability Control or change to Traction mode,
allowingwheelslipwithindefi nedlimitsforasportierdrivingstyle.
Adaptive M suspensionlowersthechassisby1 0 mmandelectronicallyadjuststhedampers
(from sportingly tight to relaxed and comfortable) for a further boost to agility and an impressively
preciseresponse(standardfortheZ4 sDrive3 5 is).
6 -speed manual transmission for an
unbelievably athletic driving style. Smooth
and optimally synchronized, it boasts precise,
short-throw gearshifts. Thanks to the narrow
transmission ratios with an additional sixth
gear the engine is even more responsive to
your own personal style of driving (not
availablefortheZ4 sDrive3 5 is).

Storage options for all kinds of objects is
provided by the storage compartment behind
the seats, a folding compartment in the
dashboard and one under the centre console,
two trays in the centre console, door trim
folding compartment on both sides, the glove
compartment and a tray in the luggage
compartment (for vehicles without navigation
system).
Storage package includes two cup holders
under the centre console, a folding compartment
on the driver’s side, a storage compartment
in the separating wall in front of the luggage
compartment, net in the passenger footwell
and on the rear of the seat backrests, a coat
hook on each rollover bar and fastening straps
in the luggage compartment.
Luggage compartment,with1 8 0 litre

hardtop is retracted. When the hardtop is
