• These installation instructions are only valid for cars with a production date before 09/01
Technical and electrical knowledge required
The installation time is 0.5 - 3.5 hours but this may vary depending on the condition of the car

1. Important information on installing the CD changer in the E39
Only for use in the BMW dealer organisation.
The CD changer may only be installed by a specialist workshop that has the required special
tools and manuals (servicing, repair, diagnostics, etc.).
All the work is shown for the left-hand side of the car and must be repeated on the right-
hand side.

In cars with an on-board monitor radio the control cable is only installed in the boot.

In cars with a BMW Professional hi-fi system DSP amplifier only the coaxial cable for the
Professional hi-fi system DSP amplifier/CD change must be installed in the boot.

In cars with a small boot cover the boot cover for the CD changer may have to be ordered
separately from the electronic parts catalogue (EPC), depending on the equipment in the
car.

Ensure that the cables/lines are not kinked or damaged as you install them in the car.
Additional cables/leads that you install must be secured with cable ties.If the specified PIN
chambers are occupied, bridges, double crimps or twin-lead terminals must be used.

5. Installation and cabling diagram

The power supply wiring harness A , the control cable B , the control cable C , the coaxial cable
D and the adapter cable E are to be installed as shown in the figure and secured with cable ties.
When installing the power supply wiring harness A start with branches A1 and A2 .
Branches A1 and A2 to the left side panel in the boot
Branch A3 to the left tail light
Branch A4 to the CD changer in the boot on the left
Branch B1 to the installation site of the radio / connect to branch E2
Branch B2 to the CD changer in the boot on the left
Branch C1 to the installation site of the radio / connect to branch E2

Branch D1 to the DSP amplifier in the boot on the left

The installation of the power supply cable A
for the CD change is only necessary, if the
black 3-pin socket casing X18180 on the
power supply for the CD changer is not tied
back on the audio wiring harness.
0Disconnect the white 12-pin plug connector X322.
Disconnect the existing socket contact from slot
PIN4, white/grey/yellow cable on the white 12-pin
socket casing X322B.
Connect branch A1, 1-pin socket contact, white/
grey/yellow cable on the power supply cable Ato
the white 12-pin socket casing X322B in slot
PIN4.
Connect the supplied 1-pin black socket casing to
the disconnected socket contact and connect it to
branch A1, black 1-pin plug casing, white/grey/
yellow cable.
0Disconnect the existing socket contact from slot
PIN1, red/green cable on the white 12-pin socket
casing X322B. Connect branch A2, 1-pin socket
contact, red/green cable on the power supply
cable Ato the white 12-pin socket casing X322 in
slot PIN1.
Connect the supplied 1-pin black socket casing
on to the disconnected socket contact and
connect it to branch A2, black 1-pin plug casing,
red/green cable. Remove the left tail light.
