
Remote Throttle Control with Braided Wire Cable
A remote throttle control with a braided wire cable can be installed in one of two
directions: Cylinder Head Direction or Front Direction.
Cylinder Head Direction
1. Use a 10 mm wrench and loosen the nut (P, Figure 4)½turn on the throttle control /
TransportGuard® lever (A).
2. Hold the cable mounting nut (J, Figure 5) with a 10 mm wrench and loosen the
screw (K).
3. Install the cable wire (L, Figure 5) through the hole in the cable mounting nut (J),
and tighten the screw (K). Make sure that the cable wire (L) does not extend more
than½" (12,7 mm) past the hole.
4. Loosen the screw (I, Figure 5). Attach the cable sleeve (N) under the cable clamp
(M), and tighten the screw (I).
5. Check the operation of the remote throttle control. Move the remote throttle control
from slow to fast 2-3 times. Make sure that remote throttle control and the cable
wire (L, Figure 5) moves freely. Adjust the nut (P, Figure 6) as necessary for the
specified position.
Front Direction
1. Use a 10 mm wrench and loosen the nut (P, Figure 3)½ turn on the throttle
control /TransportGuard® lever (A) to the OFF position.
2. Hold the cable mounting nut (J, Figure 7) with a 10 mm wrench and loosen the
screw.
3. Install the cable wire (L, Figure 7) through the hole in the cable mounting nut (J)
and tighten the screw (K). Make sure that the cable wire (L) does not extend more
than½" (12,7 mm) past the hole.
4. Loosen the screw (I, Figure 7). Attach the cable sleeve (N) under the clamp (M) and
tighten the screw (I).
5. Check the operation of the remote throttle control. Move the remote throttle control
from slow to fast 2-3 times. Make sure that the remote throttle control and the cable
(L, 7) moves freely. Adjustthe nut (P, Figure 3) as necessary for the specified
position.
Remote Throttle Control with Solid Wire Cable
A remote throttle control with a solid wire cable can be installed in one of four directions:
Cylinder Head Direction, Front Direction, Left Direction, or Right Direction.
Cylinder Head Direction
1. Move the throttle control / TransportGuard® lever (A, Figure 3) to the OFF position.
2. Remove the spring (S, Figure 8).
3. Use a 10 mm wrench and loosen the nut (P, Figure 3)½switchthe throttle control /
TransportGuard® lever (A).
4. Install the Z-fitting of the solid wire cable (Q, Figure 8) to one of the small holes in
the bellcrank (R).
5. Loosen the screw (I, Figure 8). Attach the cable sleeve (N)belowthe cable clamp
(M), and tighten the screw (I).
6. Examinethe operation of the remote throttle control. Move the throttle control from
slow to fast 2-3 times. Make sure that remote throttle control and the cable wire (L,
Figure 8) moves freely. Adjust the nut (P, Figure 3) asrequired for the specified
position.
Front Direction
1. Move the throttle control /TransportGuard® lever (A, Figure 3) to theOFF position.
2. Remove the spring (S, Figure 9).
3. Use a 10 mm wrench and loosen the nut (P, Figure 3)½ turn on the throttle
control /TransportGuard® lever to the OFF position.
4. Install the Z-fittingof the solid wire cable(Q, Figure 9) to one of the two small holes
in the bellcrank (R).
5. Loosen the screw (I, Figure 9). Attach the cable sleeve (N) under the clamp (M) and
tighten the screw (I).
6. Check the operation of the remote throttle control. Move the remote throttle control
from slow to fast 2-3 times. Make sure that the remote throttle control and the
cable (L, Figure 9) moves freely. Adjustthe nut (P, Figure 3) as necessary for the
specified position.
Left Direction
1. Move the throttle control /TransportGuard® lever (A, Figure 10) to theOFF position.
2. Remove the spring (S, Figure 3).
3. Use a 10 mm wrench and loosen the nut (P, Figure 3)½ turn on the throttle
control /TransportGuard® lever (A, 10) to the OFF position.
4. Install the Z-fittingof the solid wire cable(L, Figure 10) to the small hole (S)in the
throttle control lever (A).
5. Loosen the screw (I, Figure 10). Attach the cable sleeve (N) under the clamp (M)
and tighten the screw (I).
6. Check the operation of the remote throttle control. Move the remote throttle control
from slow to fast 2-3 times. Make sure that the remote throttle control and the
cable (L, Figure 10) moves freely. Adjustthe nut (P, Figure 3) as necessary for the
specified position.
Right Direction
To install a remote throttle control from the right direction, a cable mounting bracket
(U, Figure 11) is required. Refer to the Specifications and Service Parts section for
the part number. To purchase a cable mounting bracket, contact a Briggs & Stratton
Authorized Service Dealer.
1. Move the throttle control /TransportGuard® lever (A, Figure 11) to theOFF position.
2. Remove the spring (S, Figure 3).
3. Use a 10 mm wrench and loosen the nut (P, Figure 3)½ turn on the throttle
control /TransportGuard® lever (A, 11) to the OFF position.
4. Install the Z-fittingof the solid wire cable(L, Figure 11) to the small hole (S)in the
throttle control lever (A).
5. Remove the bolt (T, Figure 11). Install the cable mounting bracket (U) as shown.
Attach the cable mounting bracket (U) with thebolt (T).Tighten the bolt (T) to 30lb-
in(3,4 Nm). See Specifications and Service Parts section.
6. Loosen the screw (I, Figure 11). Attach the cable sleeve (N) under the clamp (M)
and tighten the screw (I).
7. Check the operation of the remote throttle control. Move the remote throttle control
from slow to fast 2-3 times. Make sure that the remote throttle control and the
cable (L, Figure 11)moves freely. Adjustthe nut (P, Figure 3) as necessary for the
specified position.
Fixed Engine Speed (No Throttle Control Cable)
When converted to a Fixed Engine Speed,a throttle control cable is not installed and
there is no speed selection. FAST is the only engine speed.
1. Move the throttle control / TransportGuard® lever (A, Figure 12) to the OFF
position.
2. Remove the spring (S, Figure 12).
3. Move the throttle control / TransportGuard® lever (A, Figure 12) to the FAST
position.
4. Make sure the wire retainer screw (V, Figure 12) aligns with the hole in the bracket.
Tighten the screw (V) to 25 lb-in (2,8 Nm).
5. Remove the control link (H, Figure 12).
NOTE:At this time, the throttle control / TransportGuard® lever will only have two
positions: STOP / OFF position and RUN position.
6. Install the new ON / OFF TransportGuard® label (O, Figure 13) over the existing
speed control label located on the trim panel (F).
Operation
Check the Oil Level
Before you check or add oil
• Make sure that the engine is level.
• Clean the oil area of debris.
• See the Specifications section for oil capacity.
NOTICE
This engine was shipped from Briggs & Stratton without oil. Equipment manufacturers or
dealers could have added oil to the engine. Before you start the engine for the first time,
make sure that the oil is at the correct level. Add oil as specified by the instructions in
this manual. If you start the engine without oil, damage will occur and the engine will not
be repaired under warranty.
1. Remove the dipstick (A, Figure 14) and clean with a cloth
2. Install and tighten the dipstick (A, Figure 14).
3. Remove the dipstick and check the oil level. Make sure that the oil level is at the top
of the full indicator (B, Figure 14) on the dipstick.
4. The engine has two oil fills (C, G, Figure 15).If the oil level is low, slowly add oil into
the engine oil fills (C, G). Do not add too much oil. After you add oil, wait one minute
and check the oil level again. Make sure that the oil level is correct.
5. Install and tighten the dipstick (A, Figure 14).
