[ HOW TO INSTALL THE BELT COVERS

HOW TO INSTALL THE BOBBIN WINDER )
* Install the bobbin wi nd er 0 to the tabl e with two screws f) .
(Install it so that the bobbin wi nder pulley 0 will not slip.)
I. Sc r ew the bl ack stud into the back of the machine head .
2. Screw the white st ud into the machine h ead.
3. Temporarily tighten screw A and the s pr ing washer to the
white s tud.
4. Install belt cove r U with screw A as shown in the figure at the
left.
5. Install belt cover U with screw B and the spr ing washer.
• When in sta lling belt cover U, please bring down the machine.
6. Install belt cover D with sc rews and washers.
• When installing belt cover D, pl ease set up the machine.
* When re placing the b elt, rem ove belt cover U.
( HOW TO INSTALL THE SPOOL HOLDER BASE )
• Install the spool holder base 0 at the right corne r of the table
with screws f) .

[ LUBRICATION
1. Lubrication
( I) Su pp ly oil sl ow ly to the mark at the left (" HI G H").
If the o il level falls bel ow the mark at the right ("LOW") , add
oi l.
(2) If the o il becomes contaminated, rem ove the oil cap 0 and th e
oi l cover sc rew G.
(3) Wipe away contami n at ion fr om the ma gnet f) .
* Use th e oil specified by BROT H ER: Hi-White 70.
2. Oiling
* Before using the mach ine, be sure to s up ply one or two drop of
o
il to the point ind icated by the arrow .

* Insert the needle 0 all the way, making sure that the long
groove
of the needle is at the left, and tighten by using the set
screw

(I) Fit the bobbin 0 onto the bobbin winder spindle 8.
(2) Push the bobbin winder stop latch 8 completely upward.
(3) After winding the thread around the bobbin 0 a few times in
the direction
of the arrow, operate the machine.
(4) If the thread cannot be wound evenly, adjust the bobbin
winder tension bracket8 by moving itto the left
or rightafter
loosening the set screw
0.
* To wind more thread onthe bobbin 0, tighten theadjustment
screw
0.

(I) Raise the needle above the needle plate.
(2) After lifting the latch of the bobbin case 0, remove the
bobbin case.
(3) The bobbin 8 will come out when the latch is released.
Delivery eye
(I) Insert the bobbin into the bobbin case.
(2) Pass the thread through the slot 0 and under the tension
spring
8.
(3) Pull out the thread from the delivery eye at one end of the
tension spring

* Adjust the screw 0 so that the lower thread tension is just st rong enoug h to prevent the bo bbin case from falling by its own weig ht
when it is suspend ed by holding the end of the lower thr ea d.

Ill Thread take-up spring
* The sta ndard op era ting rang e of the thread take-up spring is 7
~ lOmm.
The s tandard ten sion is 25 ~ 30 grams.
* To adju st the operat ing range, loosen the scr ew f) and turn
the upper thread tension assembly.
* To adjust the tension, in sert the tip of a screwdriver into the
sl
ot of the tension stud 0 ,and tu rn it as necessary.

( ADJUSTMENT OF UPPER FEED PRESSURE
* Th e press ure on materials dur ing sewing must be as weak as
possible but still enough to prevent slippage. Adjust, if
necessary, by using the adjust ment screw 0 .
* Loosen the adjustment nut before adjusti ng.
)
* Adjust the upper feed pressure by t urning the adjustmen t
upp er feed dial 0 so that the upp er feed dog will feed the
materia l fi rmly and securel y.
If you make the u pper feed pressure stronger, the upp er fe ed
efficiency will be increased.
If
you make it weaker, the upper feed efficiency will be
decrea
se d.
* Be s ur e not to make the upper feed press ur e to o st rong,
because, if it is, the upper feed dog wi ll li ft the presser foot,
causing
th e material to slip.

* The amo unt of feed be co mes greater as the number becomes l arger. The maxi mum stitch length of mode ls 003 and 01 3 is 4 mm, a nd
the ma ximum of mode l 01 5 is 5 mm . Th e maxim um stitch leng th of ba c ktack sewing, however, is approximate ly 2 mm.
Ill Reve rse-operation mec hanism
When the reverse le ver 0 is pr essed, the mat er ial will be fed in the reverse direction. Wh en the reverse leverisreleased, it will return
to its original po si tion , and the mat er ial will automati ca ll y be fed in the forw ar d direction .

dial.
When the peda l is releas ed, the material wi ll be sewn with
th e amount of f eed set by the upper-feed ad justment dial.

I. Turn the upper feed adjustment dial assembly to set the upper feed amount to maximum.
2. Turn the machine pulley slowly.
3. The minimum clearance between the upper feed dogand the presserfoot should beapproximately 1.0 mm when the forward-pulling
type upper feed dog
is used, and 2.5 mm when the gathering type upper feed dog is used.
~ 4. Loosen the screw 0. and adjust the clearance by moving the upper feed arm f) forward or backward.

e These parts are effective fo r the prevention of sewing lag. They are also useful when differe nt
materials (linings, leather and cl oth, knitted material and cloth, etc.) are sewn together.
e If these parts are used especially for gathering, the gathering attac hm ent (gathering sep arator)
should be used to geth er with them. By using the se parts, the amou nt of gathering ca n be increased,
and
an adver se effect on the bo ttom mat er ial (when the material is thin) can be pr evented.
(Examples)

(Effective in preventing sewing lag when sewing different materials together).

e These parts are used for gathering, decorative stitching and preventing sewing lag in medium
thickness materials. The fact
that the area pressed by these parts is verylarge also makes themideal
for partial gatheringand for the prevention ofpuckering. Theyare veryeffective for the attachment
of bias materials as well.
(Examples) Sewing princess lines on women's blazers, underarm seams of two-layered sleeves,
decorative stitches
of pocket openings on men's slacks, plain belt seams and plain
waist-lining seams.

e A large feed dog of the same length as the presser foot operates on both sides of the needle.
e Materials that are difficult to feed, such as quilting materials, polyurethane, materials containing
elastic, vinyl, and bonded material, can be sewn easily without uneven feed
or sewing lag.
(Examples) Underarm seams, shoulder seams, sleeves,
or side seams of ski wear, leatherjackets,
raincoats, etc.
