Generalities
The control unit EAS is a LINUX-based microprocessor with a 5,7 inch high reso-
lution graphic touch display.
With this technology all self-describing functions are operated, adjusted and dis-
played. This applies to all other BRUNNER components which are connected
over the CAN bus.
The USB interface on the back of the display serves for loading of updates. This
way the newest software can always be loaded and used.
1 REGISTRATION
Under http://produktregistrierung.brunner.de you can reg-
ister your EOS 8 under indication of the batch number (on
the packing or on the back of the product release note).
2 SYSTEM DESCRIPTION
The EOS 8 provides functions which make it possible to perform complex control
tasks related to heating systems. The integrated functions of EOS 8 are optimized
for the control of heating systems with boiler technology and a connected buffer
tank. In connection with a BHZ, for example, it is possible to operate the complete
system comfortably from one place.
It is possible to connect extra displays to the EOS 8. In this case, the heating sys-
tem can be operated from each connected display. If further systems, like BHZ
for example, are using the data bus technology, then the entire system can be op-
erated from each connected display. The currently active component (e.g. EOS
8) is shown in the foreground. Other systems (e.g. BHZ) can be selected via their
symbols in the navigation bar below and displayed for operation.

All sensors, actuators, pumps, etc. are connected to the electronics of the EOS 8.
The EOS 8 display unit is connected to the control unit with a connecting cable.
Display
The display of EOS 8 is divided into three fields.
In the navigation bar above, the essential functions/components of the current ap-
plication are represented by icons. By tapping an icon you can enter the respec-
tive menu.
In the lower navigation bar on the right, the current date and time are displayed.
In the same navigation bar, the different applications (EOS 8, BHZ, etc.) can be
selected if available.
In the field between the two navigation bars, the different menus, diagrams, infor-
mations etc. concerning the selected application/function are displayed. Contents
depend on the configured system.

The touchscreen of the control unit can be operated with fingers. If this is not de-
sired or if it does not feel practicable, a suitable aid can be used. Never operate
the touchscreen with a conventional pen. A stylus for capacitive displays is re-
quired.
Hint: The display does not respond to pressure. Sometimes coming close with a
finger already leads to a reaction. Touch the desired place of the screen and do
not keep your finger on it.
Never use a pencil or other sharp objects for operation.
2.1 FUNCTIONAL PRINCIPLE MYBRUNNER
LOCAL
You can also reach and query your system conveniently via myBRUNNER
local. For this you do not need internet access with the myBRUNNER local
function. Simply connect your system to the home network and access the
control panel directly and internally via your intranet.
It is important that your device is also connected to the same home net-
work!
NOTE: This feature works only through the myBRUNNER app.

4 OPERATION
The operation of the EOS 8 is done completely over the attached display/dis-
plays. From here all devices connected over the data BUS can be attained. The
available devices are shown in the lower navigation bar.
The EOS 8 thus represents a complex system, in which all connected devices are
considered. Since individual functions can in principal be taken over by different
devices (e.g. steering of the pumps), the function concerned is always taken over
by the equipment that is most suitable for this. To the other devices, the function
is then faded out and not available.
In this manual all combinations of devices and functions cannot be treated due to
the complexity mentioned. Therefore only the fundamental procedure for opera-
tion is described here.
In the lower navigation border the connected devices are displayed and in the up-
per navigation border the therefore activated functions are shown. By touching
briefly the symbols one attains the respective info menus and/or the available pa-
rameter settings.
Under 'Settings' one finds the possibilities to configure the EOS 8 and to adapt it
to your installation. Select the menu option and enter the pin code 9999.

4.5 LIGHTING FIRE IN A COLD FIREPLACE
1 Open the firing door. A short functional inspection of the EOS7 takes
and the combustion air valve is driven into the starting up position. The
sensor at the exhaust gas stub announces the combustion temperature.
Make sure that the level of ashes is not too high. Maximum level: 5 cm
below the door frame.
2 Load some chopped firewood loosely into the fireplace. Load the de-
sired amount of wood logs on this small wood. Put a good fire-starter,
such as Fidibus between the logs and light the fire. Fire-starters are
practical fire starting aids. Please note: big logs are not easy to light and
heavy to burn in a cold fireplace. Never use petrol or alcohol as aids for
lighting fire!
18 User guide EOS 8 (1.10) © 2023 Brunner GmbH

3 Close the firing door. From now on the EOS takes over the control of
the combustion air valve. Closing the door is the signal for the EOS
that a heating procedure is started. The message “1. Heating up” ap-
pears and the heating up temperature is displayed. In this position the
air valve is fully opened, so that a fast high heating is possible. The fast
high heating is the most important factor in order to obtain a clean com-
bustion with reduced emissions.
If the heating up temperature is reached in the given time, the marking
becomes green, otherwise it becomes red and the message ‘Heating up
error’ is displayed.
The second marking for a clean combustion is displayed. When this
temperature threshold is exceeded, the combustion air valve motor dri-
ves the combustion air valve further step by step. If this temperature
threshold is not reached, the message ‘Heating up error’ appears and
the second marking is displayed in red.
If after closing of the firing door the message “1. Heating up” is
not displayed, then there is a defect. Please control the heater
manually and inform the stove builder.
4.6 ADDING FUEL IN A WARM FIREPLACE
1 According to the heat requirement, a new combustion can be started.
However, please not the basic rule that only after complete burning of
the previous load, a further load can be added. The wood burning con-
cept requires that load after load is burned, and not log after log.
2 2. When the message „Glut“ appears, some glow from the last burn-up
is remaining in the combustion chamber. The newly added fuel takes
fire on this glowing ember bed. Put some wood shavings directly on the
glow (maybe ‘loosen up’ a little the ember bed) for easier igniting. Close
the firing door again.
From now on the EOS takes over the control of the combustion air
valve. Closing the door is the signal for the EOS that a heating proce-
dure is started. On the display the markings and messages appear as
described in the chapter 'Lighting fire in a cold fireplace' .
© 2023 Brunner GmbH User guide EOS 8 (1.10) 19

Each opening and closing of the firing door is a signal for the EOS
to start monitoring functions. The electronics now expect the start
of a heating procedure. If no or too little fuel is loaded, an error
message appears. Avoid therefore an unnecessary opening of the
firing door!
4.7 WINTER/SUMMER-OPERATION
Switching between winter and summer mode will be done in the menu:
Menu / Damper flap operation/ Winter operation/ Summer operation.
Confirm selection with O.K.
Winter mode = operation of the damper flap
Summer mode = the damper flap always remains open
4.8 PRIORITY SWITCHING
Priority of room heating or water heating
Set the priority of heating: Room heating or water heating
Menu / Priority/Stove = Room heating
Water = Water heating
For installations with an automatic switching between boiler function and stove
function, the priority function can be selected. Water priority leads to it that the re-
quired values, e.g. the required buffer tank temperature, are maintained by the
EOS if possible. Stove priority makes that the switching flap does not switch to
the boiler function; the burn-up is always done over the stove (smoke channels).
