1.1 About this manual
1 General information and warnings
1.1 About this manual
This manual is divided into chapters by the chapter number and the large text at the top
of a page. Subsections are labeled using the 1.1 and 1.1.1 convention. The names of
the chapter and the next subsection level appear at the top of alternating pages of the
manual to remind you of where you are in the manual. The manual name and page
numbers appear at the bottom of the pages.
1.1.1 Special messages
Examples of special messages you will see in this manual are defined below. The
heading words have specific meanings to alert you to additional information or the
relative level of hazard.
Installations within Europe must use a socket which provides a minimum of IP56
protection to the plug / cable assembly. Care must be taken to make sure that the
degree of protection provided by the socket is suitable for the environment.
1.2 Routine maintenance
Always disconnect the interface cable from the indicator before starting any routine
maintenance to avoid the possibility of electric shock.
CAUTION!
This is a Caution symbol.
Cautions give information about procedures that, if not observed, could result
in damage to equipment or corruption to and loss of data.
NOTE: This is a Note symbol. Notes give additional and important information, hints
and tips that help you to use your product.
IMPORTANT: This equipment must be routinely checked for proper operation
and calibration.
Application and usage will determine the frequency of calibration required for
safe operation.

These limits are designed to provide reasonable protection against harmful interference when the equipment is operated in a
commercial environment. This equipment generates, uses, and can radiate radio frequency energy and, if not installed and used in
accordance with the instruction manual, may cause harmful interference to radio communications. Operation of this equipment in a
residential area is likely to cause harmful interference in which case the user will be required to correct the interference at his own
expense.
This digital apparatus does not exceed the Class A limits for radio noise emissions from digital apparatus set out in the Radio
Interference Regulations of the Canadian Department of Communications.

2 Introduction and installation
This installation guide will show the basics of connection and setup of the HRB base
bench scales shown in Figure 2.1.
Figure 2.1 HRB large and small capacity bench scale bases
The HRB base uses a family of digital load cells. The bases are constructed of die cast
aluminum, with stainless steel load-receiving platters. The 35kg and 80kg bases have
a rectangular stainless steel platter of the same dimensions as the base. The 1 and 5kg
models have a round weight platter six inches in diameter. The optional draft shield for
the low capacity bases (1kg and 5kg) is shown in Figure 2.1.

Introduction and installation
2.1 Unpacking and installation
Unpack the scale and check for any damage. Report damage to the shipping company
immediately.
2.1.1 Removing the shipping stops
Four colored shipping stops are installed under the platter of the 35 and 80kg HRB
scales at the factory. Before you begin weighing, be sure to remove these stops. Refer
to Figure 2.2.
Figure 2.2 Removing the shipping stops
Repeat these steps on all four corners. Save and re-use if shipping the scale becomes
necessary in the future.
The 1 and 5kg scales come with tubes taped in place under the scale platter. Remove
the tape and tubes before using.
Shipping stops shown taped in place.
Slide the stop down and
remove it from the slot. Keep
for future shipping.
Remove the tape and
slide the stop to the
nearest slot in the base
(pointed out in the photo
above).

2.2 Removing the handles
2.1.2 Leveling the scale
Place the scale on a level, stable surface free from vibrations or strong air currents.
Level the scale using adjustable feet and the bubble level located on the side of the
base. Turn the appropriate foot or feet until the bubble is centered and then lock the
feet in place by turning the locking collar snugly up against the scale body.
See Figure 2.3.

Connections
3 Connections
The HRB connections are shown in Figure 3.1.
Figure 3.1 HRB connections
The back panel of the HRB base has three connections available. Only the Scale
connection is needed to connect to a compatible indicator. The Power and USB
connections are not required for normal operation.
Below is the wiring information for the HRB to indicators, (only applies to indicators that
support multi-base input):
WARNING: The scale connection is an RS232 port only. Do not plug the base
into an Ethernet port as this may damage the Ethernet hub.
