2 Intended use of scales IEX
IEX scales are intended to mass measurements in hazardous areas endangered to
appearance of explosive atmosphere. They can be used for weighings goods.
Tarring within the whole range of measurement allows to measure net mass of loads.
Scale construction is compatible with Directive 94/9/EC valid for the countries of
European Union.
Scales of IEX serie, because of the construction of the non-electrical
part of the platform and used material, can be used in zones 1 or 2
endangered for appearance of gases, mixture of gases, mists form IIA
or IIB explosive groups and T1, T2, T3 or T4.temperature class.

IEX scales are intended to interior and outdoor operation. But it should not be
exposed to active chemical vapours, extreme temperatures and huge humidity.
Platform’s construction is made of mild steel, load cells are made of aluminum.
Ambient temperature during operation: -10°C to +40°C.
Scales cannot be exposed to mechanical shocks or vibrations.
IEX scales can be installed and used only by a skilled, trained personnel.
Scales should undergo periodical technical surveys.
Gathering electrostatic charge should be avoided. Grounding wire
(equipotential) needs to be always connected to the grounding terminal in KEX-TM
indicator.
Disconnecting of the grounding wire is forbidden.
Equipotentialisation wire can be allowed only when the appearance of explosive
gases is impossible.
In case of any damage unplug the supply source, disconnect the supply cord
and then move the device to the safe area for temporarily storage to prevent it from
using until it is repaired.
KEX-TM indicators has an intrinsic safety construction that comprise with the
standards: PN-EN 60079-0 and PN-EN 60079-11 which is confirmed by KDB
14ATEX0110 certificate.
The indicator is supplied from IEX-A01 power supplier made by KERN, placed
outsider the hazardous area and compliant with: PN-EN 60079-0 and PN-EN
60079-11 standards - KDB 14ATEX0109 certificate
Platforms are equipped in ATEX certified load cells PC22, PC42, PC46, PC60
made by Flintec - BSV 09 ATEX E 086X certificate
Non-electrical elements of the platform are made according to PN-EN 13463-1
standard.
All repairs and maintenance work that require opening the indicator housing
should be made by authorised service of KERN. Subassemblies should be
substituted by original equivalents. If the scale is opened by unauthorised people all
claims connected with warranty are forfeiture.
Any installation and maintenance work, that are at variance with this manual will
cause forfeiture of all warranty claims.

5 Installation instruction of scale
For IEX scales prepare an appropriate place for installation.
It should be dry, even and rigid
Acceptable operation temperature range -10°C to +40°C
The ground on which the platform is to be placed must be able to carry the
maximal load together with the platform
oIEX scales are equipped with the indicator connected with the platform
oThe indicator can be mounted on the table or installed on a wall by means of a
handler.
Scale should be unpacked outside the hazardous area.
After unpacking remove all transport protections:
CAUTION!
In order to dissipate static electricity, it is necessary to ground the
scale’s indicator.
Places for plugging the wires are marked with “ ” symbol.
Before moving the scale to its intended place of use, prepare a conductor for
electrostatic grounding of the indicator.
The grounding conductor should be ended with a loop that is screwed to the
indicator using M4 nut.
In order to ensure constant holding down the loop to the indicator´s housing,
use tooth lock washer.
The grounding conductor should have yellow and green colour with minimal
intersection 4mm².

Below drawing presents the means of scale grounding:
Place the weighing platform and the indicator in its intended place of use in
the EX zone and ground them.
CAUTION!
- Installing of the indicator, placing the weighing platform and
connecting grounding must be carried out at a time when there
is no risk of the emergence of an explosive atmosphere.
Place the weighing platform on an even and stable foundation distant from
source of heat, drafts and leveled.
Level the scale using adjustable feet and a level.
Check whether the adjustable feet rest on the scale’s foundation.
Each adjustable feet should take an equal amount of load.
Double check the level of scale location. In correct leveling, the air bubble should
be located within the centre of level’s ring.
oIf the weighing platform requires leveling, then screw scale’s adjustable feet to
adjust level.
Check the grounding -masking springs (they are used for gathering
electrostatic charges from the weight pan) .

IEX-BASV-e-1711 9
Put the weighing pan onto the weighing platform,
Place the power adapter outside the explosive zone (i.e. in a safe area),
Plug the cable (~20 m) to the power outlet DC IN on scale’s indicator
KEX-TM.

6 Changing the scale place of operation
While moving a scale in another place of operation, all safety
measures listed in point 5 of this instruction should be taken.
7 Cleaning and maintenance
Unplug the power adapter IEX-A01 from mains.
Check wether the indicator´s electrostatic grounding is correctly plugged and is
not defected.
Clean the scale and the housing with a slightly moistened cloth. You can use
typical domestic cleaning agents.
For clearing an overlay of the indicator do not use agents that can
mechanically scratch the surface. It includes an internal conductive layer that is
important for save operation.
Platform levelling feet and shock absorbers are made of rubber. Within the
hazardous area they need to be cleaned with a slightly moistened cloth. Moisture
protects against gathering electrostatic charges.
While clearing the platform do not damage the masking springs. They are for
gathering electrostatic charges from the weight pan. They should be ~5mm above
the shock absorbers.
Cleaning should be performed when there are no explosive gases.
There is forbidden to us concentrated acids, bases, solvents or alcohol for
cleaning the device.
There is also forbidden to use compressed air and high pressure washing
equipment.
